Qatar, EU reach landmark ‘open skies’ agreement

From Page 1 Through the “historic” agreement, Qatar has demonstrated once again that despite the “ongoing intra-regional geopolitical tensions due to the illegal blockade” imposed on the nation it re- mains a leader on the global stage. On Qatar and the EU concluding ne- gotiations for a Comprehensive Air Transport Agreement, IATA director general and CEO Alexandre De Juniac said: “Open skies between two regions often produce more traffi c”. “Certainly, it is not bad news for the industry. For people in Qatar, it will multiply the possibilities to go to Eu- rope either through the national car- rier Qatar Airways or through the Euro- pean carriers, which now have the right to land openly in Qatar. You will have more choices and possibilities to go to Europe. This means, more competition and hence more freedom for passengers HE Akbar al-Baker, Alexandre De Juniac, Henrik Hololei and CAPA Centre for Aviation executive chairman Peter Harbison pose for a photo following and generally lower fares,” De Juniac told the announcement on Qatar and European Union concluding negotiations for a landmark Comprehensive Air Transport Agreement yesterday. The IIFME is one of the largest specialised invention fairs in the Middle East, and was held this year under the patronage of the Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah. Just as the clock is ticking down to Britain’s departure from the world’s biggest trading bloc on March 29, so the chorus of doomsayers grows louder.
