The Master Plan took a “community capitals” approach to planning for the future of Passaic. This Economic Development Element utilizes a similar approach in that it considers the City’s resources and assets as the foundation for expanding Passaic’s economic base. These include: • Strategic location within the New York City Metropolitan Area • Ready access to regional highway network, NJ TRANSIT bus and train service, and Teterboro and Newark Liberty International Airports • Young and growing multicultural population • Resident labor force of nearly 30,000 people, both skilled and unskilled • Urban Enterprise Zone (UEZ) designation and benefits LLeeggeenndd • Entrepreneurial spirit of local population 11/4/4 m mileile r araddiuiuss • Strong potential for growth in the area of ethnic goods, services, and restaurants ratables 11/2/2 m mileile r araddiuiuss • The emerging Latin American import/distribution sector RReeddeeveveloloppmmeennt At Arereaa B Boouunnddaaryry • Active redevelopment projects and other redevelopment opportunities on former or underutilized manufacturingRRe ehsiteshaabbiliitliatatiotionn Z Zoonnee • Riverfront development potential PPrereseservravatitoionn Z Zoonnee InInfiflli lZl Zoonnee This ElementNNee westablishesw JJeerrsse eyGoals,y Objectives and Strategies designed to build upon these assets and continue to grow jobs,RReed deeattractveveloloppmme enandnt tZ Zoon nee keep commercial ratables, and develop the workforce.
