A to Z Building Blocks LEAPIN LIZARDS A to Z Building Blocks LEAPIN LIZARDS Summer 2019 This form must be returned before June 3, 2019 for each school age child Summer Rules for the Swimming Pool We are excited to be able to offer swimming at the pool this summer. We want to make sure children are safe while we are there. Here are the rules while at the swimming pool. We would like families to go over these rules with your child and make sure they understand them. All children must always follow the rules. If a child does not follow the rules 100 % of the time, they will not be allowed to go back to the swimming pool due to safety reasons. 1. If your child cannot swim, they will always need to have a life jacket on, and parents need to provide it. Parents need to make sure teachers are aware of this before the summer begins. 2. Children are not allowed to go in farther than 5 ft 5 inches deep of water even if they can swim. 3. Children are not allowed to go off the diving boards. 4. Children must always be with a teacher and no wandering the swimming pool area. 5. The teacher will wait outside the bathroom door while children are in the bathroom. 6. Children must not play in the bathroom. 7. Children must not bring money with them to the swimming pool. 8. Children must get out of the water every hour to have sunblock reapplied. Sunblock Usage We want to make sure children are protected from getting sunburned. We allow older children to apply their own sunblock with the assistance from a teacher putting the sunblock on in lines on the child’s arms, legs, and face and allowing the child to rub it in. Teachers always assist with applying sunblock to children’s backs. Please mark the permission form for the option that you would like for your child. I will allow my child to apply their own sunblock with the teacher’s assistance. I would like the teacher to apply sunblock on my child and my child is aware that a teacher must do it. CAN OR CANNOT SWIM My child can swim. My child cannot swim. I will provide a life jacket for him/her. My child and I have read the rules, the sunblock usage, and agree to follow them. This is also theme day which children can either wear something or bring something -see calendar for details. Tuesday : FIELD TRIPS (PLEASE REFER TO THE SCHEDULE TO SEE THE TIMES THAT WE WILL LEAVE AND RETURN. We can not wait for children who arrive late.) *Please have your child wear clothing they can get wet in on the splash pad days (Field Trip Shirt will be worn) Wednesday: MOVIE MADNESS (We will leave at 8:45 and return between 12:00 to 12:15ish) *We go to the Cinemark in American Fork *Field Trip Shirt will be worn Thursday: PICNIC IN THE PARK We go to the park and play on the playground, play kickball, etc. then have a picnic. *American Fork Library Friday: WACKY WATER DAY Each child will need to bring a TOWEL and a SWIMMING SUIT in a bag with their name on it. This bag will need to go home each Friday evening and brought back the next Friday. Please make sure that the towel and swim suit have the child’s name clearly marked on it. SUMMER 2019 LEAPIN LIZARDS Only children that are in 1st grade and older will attend afternoon field trips. AFTERNOON ACTIVITIES See the calendar for leave and return times. Monday: AFTERNOON FIELD TRIP *refer to the calendar Tuesday: PARK OR LIBRARY DAY: Every other week we spend the time either going to the park or going to the library. Wednesday: CLASSIC SKATING/ POOL DAY We alternate weeks * see calendar for more details. For the swimming pool day, each child will need to come bring a TOWEL and a SWIMMING SUIT in a bag with their name on it. This bag will need to go home each Wednesday evening and brought back the next Wednesday. Please make sure that the towel and swim suit have the child’s name clearly marked on it. Thursday: HISTORICAL HEROS Intential learning about people in history. Learn about the person and do activities to explore their lives. Friday: FREEDOM FRIDAY OR SERVICE Every other week we do a service project around the community or children get to choose a fun activity of their choice which is announced weekly and will be posted by the computer. Children should not bring extra money for activities. All activities are coverd in the tuition prices. SUMMER 2019 LEAPIN LIZARDS FIELD TRIP T-SHIRTS: Your child will receive one field trip shirt included with their summer field trip tuition which will be kept at the center all summer to wear on field trip days. We will wash the shirts and use them all summer. At the end of the summer the children can take them home. The objective of our study is to determine the visual and linguistic resources used in the construction of the message. This analysis will allow us to recognize the recurring discursive characteristics, regarding the language used and the elements of visual semiotics, which allow a positive response from the children’s audience. A qualitative methodology was proposed through observation cards and discourse analysis, the linguistic and graphic characteristics present in two seasons of the children’s series were identified. In the series we recognize a simple language, words and phrases that are repeated in all episodes. The message revolves around a problem that one of the heroes must face, the conflicts that this creates for him and how with the support of his friends he overcomes it. The visual semiotic part reinforces the speech, allows the children to identify the colors of the costumes and the special places. The discursive strategies used in the PJ Mask series respond to a series of messages that seek to reinforce values in children, through the formula of continuous repetition of a message, changing the negative to the positive.

SAN FRANCISCO Copyright 2016 by Heather Armstrong Dron ii Acknowledgements Portions of Chapter 1 were published in an edited volume prepared by the Western Humanities Review in 2015. iii Abstract This dissertation traces the academic institutionalization and evolving concerns of teratologists, who studied environmental causes of birth defects in midcentury America. The Teratology Society officially formed in 1960, with funds and organizational support from philanthropies such as the National Foundation (Later known as The March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation). Teratologists, including Virginia Apgar, the well-known obstetric anesthesiologist and inventor of the Apgar Score, were soon embroiled in public concerns about pharmaceutically mediated birth defects. Teratologists acted as consultants to industry and government on pre-market reproductive toxicology testing for pharmaceuticals. However, animal tests seemed unable to clearly predict results in humans and required careful interpretation of dosage and animal species and strain responses. By the late 1960s, amidst the popular environmental movement, teratologists grappled with public claims that birth defects resulted from exposure to industrial pollutants in water or air, or from food additives, pesticides, and industrial waste or effluent. In a crowded field of professionals concerned with pharmaceutical or chemical exposures during pregnancy, teratologists proved adaptive and resilient. Despite influences from the environmental movement, teratologists at times tried to contain the substances and outcomes considered relevant and called for greater vetting of chemical claims, amidst rampant journalistic and public accusations about iatrogenic or industrial harm.
