Sunday The entire Mangum fire perimeter was less active yesterday with much smaller amounts of smoke observed. Crews continued work to improve fire lines and conduct suppression repair where needed. The Jacob Lake Community and the entire White Sage community on the west side of the fire are anticipated to have their evacuation threat rescinded entirely by Sunday morning. Highways 89A and 67 will reopen to public travel Sunday morning at 6 A.M. Afternoon lightning strikes were observed Friday afternoon from passing area thunderstorms and were being monitored to detect the presence of additional starts. Today firefighters will focus on conducting suppression repair, respond to initial attack if new starts occur, and improve, patrol, and monitor existing lines. The weather forecast is for changing conditions with another wind event anticipated over the weekend. Closures: Highways 89A and 67 are presently closed from Mile Post 545 near the Cliff Dwellings to Fredonia but will reopen Sunday at 6 A.M. Businesses remain open in Marble Canyon and Vermillion Cliffs. The U.S. Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management have amended much of closure orders for the North Kaibab Ranger District and Bureau of Land Management land east of Fredonia.
