GENERAL NOTES

These papers came from the sculptor‟s studio. In each file refers to a specific job. However, sometimes several jobs were put together in one file, and some files were found to be missing altogether. Consequently the filing system is incomplete.

Where possible missing job titles have been supplied by using the catalogue of works compiled by Pilkington Jackson‟s second wife Audrey (See Box 47). The titles of these missing files appear in square brackets. In a few cases where the file number is missing, there exists a photograph of the work in Acc 8542. This indicated in the „contents‟ column by a number 6.

When researching a specific work, it may be valuable to read through files pertaining to works from the same time period. Correspondence with, for example, suppliers may refer to more than one job, and so information on a particular work may well be found in more than one file.
