Even the exhibit itself had to experience change, as it was moved from its planned spring dates to the fall. We originally spoke of the cyclical nature of change, but now our thoughts center on the abrupt, transformave changes that shape our lives.

Now pay us” is always a scam. By Jim Kreidler Consumer Education Specialist, FTC

During these difficult economic times, it is easy to imagine our financial problems disappearing by winning a big prize. Who wouldn’t like to win a million dollars, a new car, or a vacation home? But if you get a call from someone saying, “You’ve won,” don’t believe the hype.

Here’s how it works. You get a call from someone who says they’re from Publishers Clearing House or some other well known organization. They say, “Congratulations, you’ve won a million dollars, a MercedesBenz, and seven thousand dol- lars a week for life!” or some other amazing sounding prizes. Then they ask you to pay a “processing fee,” "taxes," or "shipping and handling charges," to claim your prize.

The scammers are trying to push you into a heightened emotional state, to knock you off balance just long enough to steal your money and personal information.

The fact is, Publishers Clearing House never notifies winners in advance. And anyone who says, “You’ve won. Now pay us,” is always a scammer. Period. Consider these tips to avoid this scam:

Legitimate sweepstakes don’t make you pay a feeto get your prize. That includes paying "taxes," "shipping and handling charges," or “processing fees.” There’s also no reason to give someone your checking account or credit card number in response to a sweepstakes promotion.

Don’t send money transfers or gift cards, or give personal information.Sending money transfers or gift cards (or providing the gift card numbers) is like sending cash: once the money’s gone, you can’t trace it or get it back. The same goes for sending money by mail or using a money order. Don’t trust your caller ID.Scammers can make any name or number show up on your caller ID. They might use an officialsounding name like Publishers Clearing House or Reader’s Digest. Scammers don’t just scam one person. Tell your friends and family about the scam so they can avoid it. Then report it to the FTC: ftc.gov/complaint.

Special Nutrient Needs of Older Adults eatright.org May 21, 2020

Eang right and staying fit are important no maer what your age. As we get older our bodies have different needs, so certain nutri- ents become especially important for good health.

Calcium and Vitamin D :Older adults need more calcium and vitamin D to help maintain bone health. To meet these needs, select calciumRrich and beverages and aim for three servings of lowRfat or fatRfree dairy products each day. Other sources of calcium include forfied cereals and fruit juices, dark green leafy vegetables, canned fish with so bones, and forfied plantRbased beverag- es. Good sources of vitamin D include fay fish, such as salmon, eggs and forfied foods and beverages. If you take a calcium supple- ment or mulvitamin, choose one that contains vitamin D.

Vitamin B12:Some adults older than 50 may not be able to absorb enough vitamin B12. Forfied cereal, lean meat and some fish and seafood are sources of vitamin B12. Ask your doctor or a registered diean nutrionist if you need a vitamin B12 supplement.

Dietary Fiber: Eat fiberRrich foods to stay regular. Dietary fiber also may help lower your risk for heart disease and reduce your risk for Type 2 diabetes. Eat wholeRgrain breads and cereals, and more beans and peas V along with fruits and vegetables which also provide dietary fiber.

Potassium: Consuming adequate potassium, along with liming sodium (salt) intake, may lower your risk of high blood pressure. Fruits, vegetables, beans and lowRfat or fatRfree dairy products are good sources of potassium. Also, select and prepare foods with lile or no added salt. Add flavor to food with herbs and spices.

Know Your Fats: Most of the fats you eat should be polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats, which are primarily found in nuts, seeds, avocados, vegetable oils and fish. Choose foods that are low in saturated fat and trans fat to help reduce your risk of heart disease.

Ah, Autumn! It brings crispy mornings, the pop of canning lids as the harvest is captured in hot water baths, the sounds and tastes of Peach Days, Halloween, and many other favorite memories of today and yesterday. MY nostrils yearn for the days in Downey, Idaho when we raked up the thick carpet of leaves from the tall trees that stood guard over our home. We would jump and roll around in the leaves, and then take them to our cement incinerator and burn them. What a delighul smell!! I loved driving around the town with my parents and hoping we would pass by someone burning leaves so the pungent fall smell would permeate into the car. Now don’t take me wrong. I understand the need for burning permits and polluon controls but I sll love driving past fields where the stubble is burning. It brings back memories of home. Do you have favorite Autumn Memories? At our house we remember all of the above but my children would have to say that Autumn and Halloween always bring “Bloody Bones in the Coal Shed” as their favorite ghost story memory. Just thinking about it will make the hair on the back of their heads stand up. It was a story I learned in my growing up years and it seemed so scary that it was only right to thrill the next generaon with it. My older children could understand the coal shed because we saw lumps of coal burning in my parent’s fireplace. It has taken a bit more explaining to the younger children and grandchildren so they will know what a coal shed is and why a coal bucket was used. It really doesn’t maer what is in the shed. It is just the scary place where the drama took place. The story is very simple and goes something like this: A lile boy named Tommy and his mother are all alone on a dark, dark night and it is very cold in the house. Tommy’s mother asks him to go to the coal shed and get some coal so they can make a fire in the fireplace. He is the only one that can save them from freezing. He is so afraid of the dark, dark coal shed (say this so slow and scary) but he knows his mother is depending on him. He takes the coal bucket, steps out the back door and he hears a chilling voice say “Bloody bones in the coal shed going to get you!” (This is said so slow, quiet and scary that the children lose their breath!) The rest of the story is just Tommy geng closer and closer to the coal shed and every few feet the voice repeats again, “Bloody bones in the coal shed are going to get you!” The children and I always are lying in bed under the covers when I tell this story, and I can feel the tension in their bodies building up. About the me when Tommy gets to the coal shed and opens the door. I rear up out of bed, grab the children and scream, “GOT YOU!!” I never say that at the same place in the story and the ancipaon the children feel is half the scariness. No maer how many mes I told that story when the children were young, they sll would scream and scream and grab me, when I grabbed them. One day another memory was made when the children rounded up a bunch of neighbor kids and brought them home and wanted me to lie in bed with all of them and tell them the story! Under the excuse that the bed would not hold all of us, I told it to them while they sat all around me on the floor. I was sll able to reach out and scream “GOT YOU”, at the appropriate scary me and it sll had the same chilling effect on everyone. Now before you turn me into the authories, remember that you do use wisdom about the age when it is all right to scare the daylights out of children with ghost stories. Remember reading “The Monkey’s Paw” in school? That sll raises the hair on the back of my neck. When I was younger, “Give Me My Bone” was a story that I chilled to. Do you have a favorite Ghost Story? If you don’t maybe you have a beauful autumn story of can- ning, picking fruit, having family reunions or going for drives to see the beauful autumn leaves. We once lived in a state where there were no seasonal changes in the leaves. Oh how glad I was to get back to Utah and the flaming fall colors. Enjoy the sights, sounds, and smells of autumn. I will be thinking of you unl next month, but remember, stay out of coal sheds on a dark, dark night!
