Karl E. Ludvigsen papers, 1905-2011. Archival Collection 26 Karl E. Ludvigsen papers, 1905-2011. Archival Collection 26 Miles Collier Collections Page 1 of 203 Karl E. Ludvigsen papers, 1905-2011. Archival Collection 26 Title: Karl E. Ludvigsen papers, 1905-2011. Creator: Ludvigsen, Karl E. Call Number: Archival Collection 26 Quantity: 931 cubic feet (514 flat archival boxes, 98 clamshell boxes, 29 filing cabinets, 18 record center cartons, 15 glass plate boxes, 8 oversize boxes). Abstract: The Karl E. Ludvigsen papers 1905-2011 contain his extensive research files, photographs, and prints on a wide variety of automotive topics. The papers reflect the complexity and breadth of Ludvigsen’s work as an author, researcher, and consultant. Approximately 70,000 of his photographic negatives have been digitized and are available on the Revs Digital Library. Thousands of undigitized prints in several series are also available but the copyright of the prints is unclear for many of the images. Ludvigsen’s research files are divided into two series: Subjects and Marques, each focusing on technical aspects, and were clipped or copied from newspapers, trade publications, and manufacturer’s literature, but there are occasional blueprints and photographs. Some of the files include Ludvigsen’s consulting research and the records of his Ludvigsen Library. Scope and Content Note: The Karl E. Ludvigsen papers are organized into eight series. The series largely reflects Ludvigsen’s original filing structure for paper and photographic materials. Series 1. Subject Files [11 filing cabinets and 18 record center cartons] The Subject Files contain documents compiled by Ludvigsen on a wide variety of automotive topics, and are in general alphabetical order. -

First Chance Saloons Saloon Car Racing Began at Silverstone Nearly 60 Years Ago
MG & JAGUAR RACING SALOONS WORDS Tony Dron // PHOTOGRAPHY Lee Brimble FIRST CHANCE SALOONS Saloon car racing began at Silverstone nearly 60 years ago. Time to take to the Grand Prix circuit and drive two rare survivors from those early days: MG YB and Jaguar MkVII, both in full race trim 82 NOVEMBER 2011 NOVEMBER 2011 83 MG & JAGUAR RACING SALOONS This page MG is lower and better tied-down in race trim, though it retains the cosy interior of the standard car. Engine power was almost doubled for 1954, thanks to some wild engine tuning. The car now runs a milder 1953 Stage 2 spec. ‘Ordinary saloon cars T WAS ALL A BIT OF A LAUGH at first, this saloon car racing business, to some people anyway. When the British Racing Drivers’ Club added what they called a Production Touring-Car being chucked round the Race to the Daily Express International Trophy programme at Silverstone on 10 May 1952, they probably reckoned they had hit circuit certainly caught on a great wheeze, something to amuse the spectators between Ithe real races. Whatever the thinking, it was a success. Ordinary saloon the crowd’s attention’ cars being chucked round the Grand Prix circuit certainly caught the crowd’s attention. They enjoyed watching young Stirling Moss, driving a Jaguar MkVII and tearing away to a clear victory from Ken Wharton’s Healey and Sydney Allard’s eponymous Allard. They also saw this very same MG YB saloon, caption, ‘Class winner Dick Jacobs lapped by Stirling Moss, car no 3’ is, driven by enterprising MG dealer Dick Jacobs, fighting it out with the however, incorrect. -

Reg Hunt – Unsung Ace of the 1950S
Reg Hunt Unsung ace of the 1950’s 1 Maserati Club Life Patron Reg Hunt is interviewed by Richard Batchelor Reg Hunt – Unsung ace of the 1950s It is Sunday, December 2, 1956 and the Australian Grand prix has just been held at Albert Park. On the tram home my schoolboy mind is churning over the events of that memorable day, but two things are clear. First, Stirling Moss is God. Second, Reg Hunt is Australia’s best race driver. A few weeks later I was shocked to hear Hunt had retired at 33 and sold his race car. In May, 2013 with some trepidation I visited Reg Hunt’s eyrie in St Kilda Road, a stone’s throw away from the Albert Park circuit, to interview a man I was told rarely grants interviews. To my relief Reg gave me a friendly welcome and we settled down for what I promised would be a brief chat but we were still going 1 ½ hours later. He showed an extraordinary recall of a stellar motor sport career which ended over 57 years ago. Reg was born in Manchester, England in 1923 and lived there prior to his arrival in Australia in 1949. Reg’s family had a car and motorcycle business and his grandfather had raced at Brooklands. His mother and grandfather had also raced motorbikes. Reg followed suit, entering a race in late 1939 on the Isle of Man at the tender age of 16. However, “Hitler put paid to that” according to Reg and the meeting was cancelled. After the war Reg resumed his motor sport career, turning his attention to mud‐plug trials on both two and four wheels. -

Global Automotive Books
I think this is now the largest list of books and magazines in the world on Motor Vehicles. I think I maybe the only person trying to find and document every Book and Magazine on Motor Vehicles. This is a 70+ year trip for me all over the world. Some people have called this an obsession, I call it my passion. This has been a hobby for me since I was about 10 years old. I don’t work on it everyday. I don’t do this for money. I don't have any financial help. I have no books or magazines for sale or trade. I do depend on other Book and Magazine collectors for information on titles I don’t have. Do you know of a Book, Magazine, Newsletter or Newspaper not on my list?? Is my information up to date?? If not can you help bring it up to date?? I depend on WORD-OF-MOUTH advertising so please tell your friends and anyone else that you think would have an interest in collecting books and magazines on motor vehicles. I am giving my Book and Magazine Lists to Richard Carroll to publish on his web - site at www.21speedwayshop.com take a look.. All I am collecting now is any issue of a title. If you are the first to send me a copy of a magazine I don’t have I will thank you with a mention under the title. Because of two strokes and a back injury from falling down the stairs this is about all I can do now. -
