Our proud school welcomes the Chess Squad at assemble this Friday. Twenty children were se- lected from our wonderful Chess Club to repre- sent us at the Interschool Regional Chess Tour- nament last week at Emmanuel College. Our two teams played brilliantly against senior students winning over sixty games from them BUT the best part for me was they played hard but fairly. “Good sportsmanship, excellent attitudes and good knowledge” was quoted by the organis- ers from ’s Chess Kids. They are now eligible to send a team of our top five players to the State Finals at later in the year. Congratulations! A special thankyou to Donna Koik , Jane McDonald, Louise Morton, Da- mien Bourke and Kathryn Cameron.

Coles Sports For Schools Coles has launched their 2012 Sports for Schools program and once again we are excited to an- nounce that we have registered again. From your support last year we received an enormous amount of equipment which the students enjoy using and the staff really appreciated the extra equipment. By collecting these vouchers you can again assist us to choose more of this much needed sports equipment for our school. Last year we collected 95,000 vouchers which was an enormous response. Lets hope we can do the same or even go better this year. Vouchers will be available in all Coles stores from Wednesday 13th June through to 14 August and we ask that you get involved to help collect vouchers for our school again this year We would love all the school community, family and friends to get behind this and get WEPS some new sports equipment. If you spend $10 or more at any Coles store, can you please collect the vouchers when you pay at the register and place the vouchers in the box at the main office at WEPS. (We don’t need your receipts just the vouchers.) Thank you for your support.

The class challenge at lunchtimes over the past week has created some terrific fun for our 3/4 stu- dents. There was plenty of discussion among the teachers about just who would triumph. Some teachers were caught taking their grade for secret practises. Our grand final was played last Tues- day and it was great to watch the standard of netball played. Congratulations to 4K who won the Year 4 challenge and 3K who won the year 3s. Many thanks to the teachers who gave up their lunch- times to coach or umpire these games. Also thanks to the House captains for assisting with setting up, scoring and timing each day.

Aussie Football Allen Parrotte Dear Parents, Aussie Footy finishes next week. The WEPS team will participate in a lightning pre- miership next Wednesday at the Friendlies. The team has played with lots of skill and determina- tion. A special thanks to Wil Flemming who has helped with organisation. Thanks to Sue Rooke for providing the oranges every week and to the Jubb family for the donation of water bottles. After the lightning premiership the team will return to school to take on a teachers/parents team. The game will start at around 2:45pm. it will be played on the little oval. All parents are welcome to attend and participate.

Science News This week in science we looked at objects under microscopes. I looked at a leaf it looked huge under it. We had to draw what we thought it would look like to the normal eye, but it looked completely different. The leaf looked like a big green thing with lots of rain drops when under the microscope. Today in science my class learnt how to look at different things under a microscope. I looked at a purple flower under a microscope, it looked really big and had lots of micro- organisms on it . Miss Finnagan had her own microscope that we looked through and took a picture of what we put under it. Kayla Jewell 5/6 A
