FLYERS VS. LIGHTNING This is the second of three meetings between the Flyers and Tampa Bay this season and is the Flyers’ only trip of the year to Tampa. The Lightning will come back to Philadelphia on February 19.

LAST MEETING Saturday, November 17, 2018 – Tampa Bay 6, Flyers 5 (OT) at Wells Fargo Center: The Flyers erased a 5-1 deficit with four goals in 6:04 in the last half of the third period, but Tampa Bay recovered to get the game-winner in overtime. The Lightning took the lead on a power play goal by Adam Erne just over six minutes into the second period, and they saw it double on a goal by Cedric Paquette six minutes later. The Flyers got one of the goals back when James van Riemsdyk stuffed home a PPG for his first goal since returning to the club, coming with 5:27 left in the period, but the Lightning were able to regain the two-goal advantage when Brayden Point scored with 2:55 remaining. Tampa Bay then took the 5-1 lead on a pair of power play goals ten seconds apart in the third, one by Tyler Johnson and another from Point. Travis Konecny started the comeback with a power play goal with 9:36 remaining; it was followed up by a power play tally from Sean Couturier with 8:31 left and a second from Konecny with 4:02 to go. Wayne Simmonds then tied it with 3:32 to play, but in the overtime, Alex Killorn gave Tampa Bay the second point when he scored 1:47 into the extra frame. Cal Pickard stopped 20 shots for the Flyers, while Louis Domingue fended off 40 Flyers shots to take the win. Stars of the Game: 1 – Alex Killorn; 2 – James van Riemsdyk; 3 – Brayden Point.

11/17 NOTABLES

Per the NHL statistical database, this game was the first time in NHL history that a team has erased a four-goal deficit to tie a game in the final ten minutes.

The four goals the Flyers scored in 6:04 were the fastest they’ve scored four since March 30, 2017 when they scored four goals in 4:49 in the first period against the New York Islanders.

The Flyers had 45 shots on goal, which ties their season high (10/10 vs. OTT). They had 75 total shot attempts, marking the third consecutive game they’ve had 68 or more – they had 74 on Tuesday vs. Florida and 68 on Thursday vs. New Jersey. They had more shots not make it to the net than they did on goal in the first two games, but were able to reverse that trend today with 45 on goal and 30 not reaching the net.

James van Riemsdyk picked up a goal and two assists for his first three-point game as a Flyer since November 5, 2011. The contest was van Riemsdyk’s 200th game as a Flyer. He played 196 games in his first tour of duty with the organization from 2009-2012.

Claude Giroux had a two-assist game, the first of which was his 700th career point. He’s just the fourth player in franchise history to reach that milestone, joining Bobby Clarke (1210), Bill Barber (883) and Brian Propp (849). He had five shot attempts and was 11-for- 16 (69 pct) on faceoffs.

Travis Konecny recorded his fourth career two-goal game. He led the Flyers with eight shots on goal, which is a career high.

New York opened the scoring on a goal by Chris Kreider just past the halfway point of the first period, which Michal Raffl got back when he called his own number on a 2-on-1 with Scott Laughton 1:46 into the second period. The Flyers then took a lead just over five minutes into the third period on a power play goal by Wayne Simmonds, but the Rangers got it back just over 20 seconds later when Boo Nieves scored his first as a Ranger. The game was scoreless the rest of the way thanks in large part to Michal Neuvirth, who stopped 12 Ranger shots in the third and two in overtime before slamming the door four times in the shootout.
