PRESEASON GAME NOTES – SEPTEMBER 29 vs. NJ DEVILS

• The Flyers enter the home stretch of their preseason slate tonight as they host the Devils in the front half of a home-and-home series between the clubs. This is the sixth of seven preseason games for the Flyers this year; they are 3-1-1 so far. The club played four games in four nights last week, splitting a home-and-home series with the Maple Leafs on Tuesday and Wednesday, and then dropping a shootout decision against Detroit in London, on Thursday before topping the Red Wings in Detroit on Friday. The Flyers then topped the 5-3 here at the Wells Fargo Center on Monday.

• The Flyers’ training camp roster currently sits at 30 players. The club assigned 17 players to their affiliate, the , on Saturday, and assigned another eight over the course of the past fourdays. The Phantoms opened their training camp Monday morning at the Glens Falls Civic Center in Glens Falls, NY.

• Prior to main camp, 28 Flyers prospects gathered for a three-day “rookie” camp in Voorhees. This camp culminated in a 3-1 win over the rookie camp participants before an estimated crowd of 11,000 at the Wells Fargo Center.

• The Flyers will open their 2011-12 schedule on the road, providing the opposition on the night the raise their 2011 banner in a nationally-televised game on October 6. They’ll then travel on to Newark to play the Devils on October 8 before coming home to open their home slate on Wednesday, October 12 against the Canucks.

• For the 10th consecutive , the Flyers played a preseason game at the John Labatt Centre. This year’s contest was a 4- 3 shootout loss to Detroit last Thursday. The JLC s operated by Global Spectrum, a subsidiary of the Flyers' parent company Comcast-Spectacor, which manages more than 105 arenas, stadiums and convention centers around the world. The Flyers have played in London, their preseason "home away from home," every preseason since the 10,000-seat arena opened in 2002. The Flyers have previously faced the Washington Capitals, the , the , the , the , and the (twice), all at the John Labatt Centre.

• Tonight’s game wraps up the Flyers’ three-game preseason television slate with a broadcast on Comcast . Philadelphiaflyers.com will feature a video webcast of Saturday’s game at New Jersey. All preseason games will be aired on the radio on 610 WIP.

• Rookie is the Flyers’ leading scorer in the preseason with six points (2G, 4A) in four appearances. As of Wednesday, he was among several players, including , who were tied for the league lead in scoring in the preseason.

• has posted five assists in three preseason games. Meanwhile, Jaromir Jagr has five points (3G, 2A) in just two games. has three goals in three games, and has four points (1G, 3A) in four games.

• The Flyers have undergone a rather significant roster change this summer. A total of nine players (plus two scratches) from last year’s final playoff game have departed through trades or free agency, and have been replaced by no fewer than seven players through the same avenues. Among the key newcomers are G , RW Jaromir Jagr, Wayne Simmonds, Max Talbot and Jakub Voracek, C , and D Andreas Lilja.

• Chris Pronger was named the 18th in team history on the eve of training camp on September 16, with Kimmo Timonen and Danny Briere serving as alternate captains. Pronger, who has won a Stanley Cup and two Olympic gold medals, was previously the captain of the St. Louis Blues and . Timonen and Briere also have prior captain experience with Nashville and Buffalo, respectively.

• The Flyers signed C Sean Couturier to an entry-level contract last Wednesday. Couturier was the Flyers’ first-round selection (8th overall) in the 2011 NHL Entry . He has played the last three years with Drummondville (QMJHL), where he has scored 96 points in each of the last two seasons.

Tuesday, September 20 – Flyers 4, Maple Leafs 0 at Air Centre: Four different players scored and recorded a 27-save as the Flyers beat Toronto in the preseason opener. , Wayne Simmonds and Mike Testwuide all contributed to a three- second period, while Sean Couturier picked up the second goal of his camp after also scoring in Thursday’s Rookie Game scrimmage against Washington. The shutout was the first for the Flyers in 108 total games spanning the preseason, regular season and playoffs, going back to the 2010 Eastern Conference Finals vs. Montreal.

Wednesday, September 21 – Maple Leafs 4, Flyers 2 at Wells Fargo Center: Toronto returned serve from the night before with a 4-2 win in the home exhibition opener for the Flyers. The Leafs jumped out to a 2-0 lead on goals by Juraj Mikus and Matt Frattin before Tomas Hyka scored on a breakaway out of the box to make it 2-1 at the end of the second period. Joe Colborne scored for the Leafs about five minutes into the third period to make it a 3-1 lead. The Flyers answered one of the goals with just over two minutes to play when Eric Gustafsson put a loose puck home to make it 3-2. But Frattin scored an empty netter to spell the end for the Flyers.

Thursday, September 22: Red Wings 4, Flyers 3 (SO) at John Labatt Centre, London, Ontario – Wayne Simmonds scored with 53 seconds left and the pulled to force , but the Red Wings prevailed in an eight-round shootout. The Flyers were down 3-1 with 2:45 remaining when scored his second goal of the game, this one on the power play, to make it 3-2. van Riemsdyk had previously scored in the second period. The shootout saw only one player per team score in the first seven rounds before Ian White beat in round eight to end it. Leighton made 38 saves on 41 shots before stopping six of eight in the shootout.

Friday, September 23: Flyers 3, Red Wings 1 at Joe Louis Arena – Jaromir Jagr had a goal and an assist in his Flyers debut as the Flyers beat the Red Wings. Matt Read also posted a goal and assist for the Flyers, while James van Riemsdyk provided the club’s other goal. The Flyers were trailing 1-0 late in the first period when Jagr set up van Riemsdyk for one goal and then scored his own in a 52-second span. Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 22 of 23 shots to pick up his second win of the preseason.

Monday, September 26: Flyers 5, NY Rangers 3 at Wells Fargo Center – Jaromir Jagr scored twice and Braydon Coburn put home the game-winner in the third period as the Flyers topped the Rangers to close out the day that saw the 2012 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic officially announced at Citizen’s Bank Park. The teams combined for a total of five power play goals, as both of Jagr’s came on the man-advantage. Matt Read had another multi- game with a goal and an assist, while Danny Briere and Claude Giroux each had three assists.
