Greek Women Academics in Leadership – Synopsis
Women constitute just about 1/3 of Academics in Greek Universities
Law 1268/82 helped increase their numbers since then
Are mostly concentrated in humanities and under-represented in almost every other School
The higher the position in academic scale the smaller their percentage
Their representation percentage in senior administrative positions is not proportional to their participation in academics – it is extremely lower

Greek Women Academics in Leadership – Reasons
Women were not encouraged to study at universities ‘60 – ’70 → More educated men= more men in academics
Since fist academics were men → men got the higher academic and the senior administrative positions → men-dominated university
Priority to motherhood by choice – women choose less demanding jobs in order to raise their children (not equal to men in family) → no academic career / one with minimum demands
When academic career is a woman’s choice she can not combine it with motherhood easily because there are no state mechanisms to help her (day care stations inside universities)

Future of Greek Women Academics in Leadership
Today students in higher education are almost 50% men , 50% women More women are studying men-dominated Future seems hopeful sciences (engineering)
Women are gaining equality in the family, men also help raise their children
