Nancy Elaine Ariail Kozlowski, Daughter of Jesse Ariail. Nancy Kozlowski, 50, of Embden, Maine, died unexpectedly at the Florida Hospital Waterman in Tavares, Fla., on February 5, 2009. She and her husband, Robert, were spending a few months in Florida to escape the harsh winter of New England. Mrs. Kozlowski was born in Greenville, S.C., on May 1, 1958, and was the daughter of Jesse Ariail and Nancy (Nichols) Cappotto. She attended Marblehead High School in Marblehead. While living in Massachusetts, she worked for the Zayre department store for several years, the place where she would meet her future husband, Robert. She married Robert Kozlowski on May 14, 1983, in Salem. She also became a CNA, working in this field for many years in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Mrs. Kozlowski enjoyed photography and interior decorating. She was intrigued with the medical profession and became very knowledgeable in that field. She also liked to watch game shows and old movies, as well as play the slot machines in Connecticut and Las Vegas. She and her husband, Robert, loved to travel, especially within the United States, although they just recently spent their 25th wedding anniversary in Freeport, Bahamas, after having gone there for their honeymoon in 1983. Her love for her son, Kenneth, was unconditional, and her devotion and support to her husband was truly remarkable. She was also very devoted to the family dog, Sienna. Mrs. Kozlowski was diagnosed with a rare blood disease in 1983, which led to other various complications. She therefore was constantly fighting an uphill medical struggle. However, she endured daily and never let it interfere with her zest for life. She accomplished more in her 27-year battle than most would do in a lifetime. Her inner strength, will and drive were a true inspiration. To say she gave so much of herself for others is truly an understatement. For these reasons and countless others, her untimely death brings with it incredible shock and sadness to all who knew and loved her. This beautiful, thoughtful, selfless and remarkable woman will never be forgotten. Mrs. Kozlowski is survived by her husband of 25 years, Robert Kozlowski of Embden, Maine; one son, Kenneth Kozlowski of Windham, Maine; two sisters, Terry Ward and Heather Ariail of South Carolina; a brother, Bernard and his wife Marilyn Maurais of Corvallis, Ore.; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and grandparents in South Carolina, New Hampshire and Massachusetts. She also cherished the hundreds of friendships made in Maine since moving there in 1980. She was predeceased by her mother, Nancy Cappotto; her stepfather, Richard Cappotto; and a truly important part of her life, her aunt Bettie Ariail. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, February 11, 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan, Maine.
