YEAR-END EDITION MEDIABASE 2013 COVER AD www.interscoperadio.com INTERSCOPE SOARS & CAPTURES 2013 CROWN RCA Strong #2; Republic, IDJMG, Atlantic Round Out Top 5 Overall The 2013 chart year has concluded and Interscope takes the top label spot overall for the period covering November 18, 2012 - November 16, 2013. The past 12 months marked an amazing all around year for the Los Angeles-based Interscope/Geffen/A&M. The label had a plethora of accomplishments in 2013 including: • Robin Thicke hit #1 on five different charts simultaneously with “Blurred Lines,” the first song to ever achieve this feat in the monitored airplay era. • Interscope had the top four songs in a single week at Top 40 and Hot AC simultaneously. • During one week in August, Interscope held the top five slots on the Top 40 chart (split-credit with Columbia on Calvin Harris/Ellie Goulding “I Need Your Love”). • Interscope had several of the year’s most played artists spanning a variety of formats. • Maroon 5 was #3 at Top 40, #2 at Hot AC, and #1 at AC. • Former American Idol champion Phillip Phillips was #4 at both Hot AC and AC, and was #3 at Triple A. • Imagine Dragons was 2013’s #1 artist at Alternative, #2 at Triple A, #5 at Hot AC, and #7 at Top 40. • Kendrick Lamar took the honor of being the #1 artist of 2013 at Urban, and #5 at Rhythmic. • Several of these artists (Imagine Dragons, Kendrick Lamar and Phillip Phillips) accomplished this achievement with their debut album release, resulting in great artist development for the label. Interscopes i #1 overall with a 15.8% label share. Interscope also nabbed the top spot at Top 40 (18.8% ), AC (22.3% ). Hot AC (21.3% ), and Triple A (16.7% ). They also claim the #2 spot at Alternative (10.7% ), #4 at Rhythmic, and #6 at Urban. RCA s i a very solid #2, with a 15.4% market share in 2013, up from the 12.2% share they scored in 2012. The label also garnered the Urban AC crown. RCA also scored the #2 spot at Top 40, Rhythmic, Hot AC, and AC, and finished #3 at Urban and Rock, and #5 at Active Rock. Leading the RCA charge this year were Justin Timberlake, Pink, Three Days Grace, Kelly Clarkson, Miguel, A$AP Rocky, and Miley Cyrus, who scored the final Top 40 #1 hit of the 2013 chart year. 2013 marked another strong year for Republic, who posted a solid 12.2% share. Republic had some great artist development of their own with new artists including Lorde, Florida-Georgia Line, Of Monsters And Men, Volbeat and Anna Kendrick. The label also saw strong showings from their established acts such as Taylor Swift, Drake and Lil Wayne. Republic finished #1 at Rock and Active Rock, #2 at Urban, #3 at Rhythmic, and #4 at Alternative and Top 40. Island Def Jam 4holds the # overall slot with an 11.4% share. Rihanna, Avicii, Justin Bieber, Fall Out Boy, Neon Trees, and Ne-Yo all had strong showings in 2013. IDJMG finished #1 at both Rhythmic and Urban with hits from August Alsina and 2 Chainz. Island Def Jam also ranks top 5 at Urban AC, with Chrisette Michele leading the way. Atlantic pracks u a fifth place showing at 9.2%. The label nabbed the #1 artist at Top 40 for the second consecutive year with Bruno Mars succeeding 2012 winner Flo Rida. Mars also finished as the #3 overall artistt a Rhythmic and Hot AC and #5 at AC. Shinedown, Halestorm, Fitz & The Tantrums, Ed Sheeran, and Icona Pop also contributed to Atlantic’s success this past year. Columbia sn i i sixth place with a 6.8% share. It was a year led by a diverse group of artists including Calvin Harris, J. Cole, Passion Pit, Walk Off The Earth, Train, the Neighbourhood, and the multi-format smash from Daft Punk “Get Lucky.” Warner Bros. ntcomes i a #7 with a 6.5% share, up significantly from 5.2% last year. Warner Bros. continues to be a strong performer in the rock formats. This year the label had one of its most successful showingst a Top 40 and Rhythmic. Powered by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, who charted four singles at both formats. The label also saw major hits from Muse, Jason Derulo, Passenger, and Atlas Genius. Capitol isn i eighth place with a 5.4% share. Capitol had a late year surge thanks to Katy Perry, who had a three format #1 with “Roar.” The label also spawned multi-format hits from newcomers Capital Cities and Emeli Sande. Capitol continued to remain a major force at Rock and Alternative, with the likes of Alice In Chains and Sick Puppies. In the ninth slot with a 3.8% is Epic, who had a stellar year at Urban (#5) and Urban AC. Epic had strong representation from a multitude of formats, and a powerhouse of successful acts including Sara Bareilles, Jonn Hart, Ciara, Tamar Braxton, and Future. Closing out the Top 10 is Roadrunner with a 3.5% share. Roadrunner had continued success from Fun., alongside hits from Paramore, B.o.B, Stone Sour, and Jason Mraz. As the year concluded, RRP was topping the chart with newcomer Sevyn Streeter at Urban. Onef o the big stories of 2013 was the breakthrough of artists released on independent labels. Lumineers (Dualtone), Mumford & Sons (Glassnote), Pop Evil (G&G/eON E), and Papa Roach (Eleven Seven) were all independent label successes, and were among the top 10 within their respective formats.
