About Sydney THE CITY OF SYDNEY refers to the Council as an organisation, responsible for the administration of the City. THE COUNCIL refers to the elected Councillors of the City of Sydney. THE CITY refers to the geographical area that is administered by The City of Sydney and its physical elements. THE CITY CENTRE encompasses the old Sydney ‘Central Business District’ and includes major civic functions, government offices, cultural and entertainment assets and runs between Circular Quay and Central Station, Domain/Hyde Park and Darling Harbour. CENTRAL SYDNEY refers to the 10 Councils that make up the new Central subregion as defined by the NSW Government Metropolitan Plan “a place for growing Sydney”. THE SYDNEY REGION refers to the 43 Local Government Areas of the Sydney metropolitan area and Central Coast (this is also the area defined by the Australian Bureau of Statistics as the Sydney Statistical Division). The City is guided by the Sustainable Sydney 2030 Community Strategic Plan. The Plan sets out the long term sustainable development of the City to 2030 and beyond. Sustainable development is not just about the physical environment, but about the economy, society and cultures as well, and how addressing each, with bold ideas and good governance, will result in better outcomes for current and future communities. 2 Operational Plan 2016/17 Draft ATTACHMENT A 2. The campaign is calling upon the Minister of Transport to take immediate action to install lifts to Redfern station platforms. A lack of accessibility to transport services reduces the independence of people with less mobility as well as making it very difficult and unsafe for the elderly and parents with small children and prams, as well as passengers with luggage. “Access to public transport is a basic right. Given that Redfern station is one of the busiest transport hubs in NSW, more suburban and inter-urban trains stop here than any other station, with the exception of Central, and 50,000 people use this station every day.
