Differentiation of natural process units is promoted as a means of better understanding the interconnected . ~ ~ - nature of coastal systems at various scales. This paper presents a new holistic methodology for the f!13Il-.-.; a:: it: identification of littoral cells. Testing is undertaken through application to an extensive region of central ... bJLt southern England. Diverse sources of information are compiled to map 8. detailed series of local sediment circulations both at the shoreline and in the offshore zone. Cells and sub-cells are subsequently defined by thorough examination of the continuity of sediment transport pathways and by identification of boundaries where there are discontinuities. Important distinctions are made between the nature and stability of different boundaries and a classification of types is devised. Application of sediment budget analysis to major process units helps to clarify the regional significance of different sediment sources, stores and sinks. Within the study area, it is shown that sediments circulate from distinct eroding cliff sources to well defined sinks. Natural beaches are transient and dependent upon the continued functioning of supply pathways from cliff sources. Relict cells with residual circulations are identified as a consequence of interference. -

WINCHESTER CITY COUNCIL COMMUNITY INFRASTRUCTURE LEVY INFRASTRUCTURE STATEMENT July 2013 Infrastructure Statement Introduction The Community Infrastructure Levy Regulations 2010 (as amended) require the City Council to submit “copies of the relevant evidence” to the examiner. The purpose of this statement is to set out the City Council’s evidence with regard to the demonstration of an infrastructure funding gap, confirmation of the Council’s spending priorities (the draft list), and clarification of its approach in respect of S106 contributions. The City Council is also seeking to comply with the Government’s Community Infrastructure Levy Guidance (April 2013) which sets out the more detailed requirements in respect of the funding gap at paragraphs 12 -14, and of the prioritisation and funding of infrastructure at paragraphs at 84 - 91. In respect of the latter, the principal aim of this statement is to provide transparency on what the Council, as a charging authority, intends to fund in whole or in part through the levy, and those known matters where S106 contributions may continue to be sought (CIL Guidance, paragraph 15). Infrastructure Funding Gap The Government’s CIL Guidance states: • “A charging authority needs to identify the total cost of infrastructure that it desires to fund in whole or in part from the levy” (paragraph 12); • “Information on the charging authority area’s infrastructure needs should be directly related to the infrastructure assessment that underpins their relevant plan.” (paragraph. 13); • “In determining the size of its total or aggregate infrastructure funding gap, the charging authority should consider known and expected infrastructure costs and the other sources of possible funding available to meet those costs.” (paragraph 14). -

Robert Morrison (missionary) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Morrison_(missionary) From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Robert Morrison (traditional Chinese: 馬禮遜; simplified Chinese: 马礼逊; pinyin: Mǎ Lǐxùn) (January 5, 1782 in Bullers Green, near Morpeth, Northumberland – August 1, 1834 in Guangzhou) was a Scottish missionary, the first Christian Protestant missionary in China.[1] After twenty-five years of work he translated the whole Bible into the Chinese language and baptized ten Chinese believers. Morrison pioneered the translation of the Bible into First Protestant Missionary to China Chinese and planned for the Born January 5, 1782 distribution of the Scriptures as broadly Bullers Green, Morpeth, Northumberland, as possible, unlike the previous Roman Catholic translation work that had England never been published.[2] Died August 1, 1834 (aged 52) Guangzhou, Guangdong, China Morrison cooperated with such contemporary missionaries as Walter Title D.D. Henry Medhurst and William Milne Parents James Morrison (the printers), Samuel Dyer (Hudson Hannah Nicholson Taylor's father-in-law), Karl Gutzlaff (the Prussian linguist), and Peter Parker (China's first medical missionary). He served for 27 years in China with one furlough home to England. The only missionary efforts in China were restricted to Guangzhou (Canton) and Macau at this time. They concentrated on literature distribution among members of the merchant class, gained a few converts, and laid the foundations for more educational and medical -

Presenting a striking contrast with the large dome of the neighbouring Carmelite Church (completed in 1981), this tower occupies a prominent position on the city’s skyline. Above the portico of the church is written in Latin, ‘Queen Adelaide with a grateful heart dedicated this Collegiate Church to Almighty God 1844’.1 Consecrated to St Paul, this Anglican pro- cathedral has been more commonly known as ‘Queen Adelaide’s Church’, after its royal benefactress. Why did King William IV’s widow make such a bold statement of Anglicanism in an overwhelmingly Roman Catholic colony? The question has never been adequately answered. The standard explanation, expressed at length by Arthur Bonnici and Alan Keighley, is that Adelaide was simply providing for the needs of the English Protestant population of the island.2 Yet contemporary observers saw the building of the church in more complex terms. As Robin Gill has noted in passing, there existed a definite perception that St Paul’s was not simply an expatriate church, but also a means of propagating Protestantism.3 This perception was shared by two religious groups with widely divergent perspectives: Evangelicals and Roman Catholics. Twentieth Century Naval Dockyards Devonport and Portsmouth: Characterisation Report PART FOUR CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS The final focus of this report is to develop the local, national and international contexts of the two dockyards to highlight specific areas of future research. Future discussion of Devonport and Portsmouth as distinct designed landscapes would coherently organise the many strands identified in this report. The Museum of London Archaeology Portsmouth Harbour Hinterland Project carried out for Heritage England (2015) is a promising step in this direction. It is emphasised that this study is just a start. By delivering the aim and objectives, it has indicated areas of further fruitful research. Project aim: to characterise the development of the active naval dockyards at Devonport and Portsmouth, and the facilities within the dockyard boundaries at their maximum extent during the twentieth century, through library, archival and field surveys, presented and analysed in a published report, with a database of documentary and building reports. This has been delivered through Parts 1-4 and Appendices 2-4. Project objectives 1 To provide an overview of the twentieth century development of English naval dockyards, related to historical precedent, national foreign policy and naval strategy. 2 To address the main chronological development phases to accommodate new types of vessels and technologies of the naval dockyards at Devonport and Portsmouth. 3 To identify the major twentieth century naval technological revolutions which affected British naval dockyards. 4 To relate the main chronological phases to topographic development of the yards and changing technological and strategic needs, and identify other significant factors. 5 To distinguish which buildings are typical of the twentieth century naval dockyards and/or of unique interest. -

As the usefulness, or, to speak more correctly, the necessity of such an undertaking has in these latter times become more and more apparent at Derby School, and as procrastination only makes matters worse, the editor decided some years ago to face the difficulty and see what could be done. -
