RELEASED: Thursday 23 July, 2015 Josh Thomas’ Please Like Me season 3 premieres on ABC ABC TV is pleased to announce the highly-anticipated third season of Josh Thomas’ comedy drama Please Like Me will premiere on ABC on Thursday, October 15 at 9.30 p.m. The third season also marks the show’s move from ABC2 to ABC’s main channel. Inspired by the stand-up comedy and real life experiences of Thomas - the series creator, writer and star - Please Like Me explores the world of a man who’s in no hurry to grow up. This season Thomas extends his talents by taking a seat in the director’s chair for an episode. Original director Matthew Saville also returns. The new 10-part series will give viewers another glimpse into Josh’s darkly funny world. Joining the cast is award-winning actress, Emily Barclay as Ella. Original cast members reprising their roles alongside her and Josh Thomas are Thomas Ward (Tom), Caitlin Stasey (Claire), Hannah Gadsby (Hannah), Keegan Joyce (Arnold), Debra Lawrance in her AACTA award-winning role of Mum, David Roberts (Dad), Renee Lim (Mae) and, arguably the show’s biggest star, Josh’s dog, John. When asked what viewers can expect to see that’s different this time around, Josh Thomas said, “I lost too much weight in my face this year and now I have my dad’s face. Otherwise Season 3 is our best yet”. Since its debut on ABC2 in 2013, Please Like Me has been praised by critics around the world. It was named one of the year’s best shows by prestigious publications including The New Yorker, TIME and The Los Angeles Times and has been named in the top five TV shows of the year by America’s Entertainment Weekly for two years in a row. It has earned a swag of awards and nominations here and overseas including nominations for the International Emmy Award, the Rose d’Or Awards, the GLAAD Media Awards and the Logie Awards for Most Outstanding Comedy, Most Outstanding Light Entertainment and Most Popular Actor. It has also been nominated for nine AACTA Awards, taking home the trophies for Best Comedy Series, Best Screenplay in Television and Best Performance in a TV Comedy. The irony is that due to Kingsley’s enforced commute to work she now spends more time alone with Gabriela. Determined to be a better person, and with her parents giving her the push she needs, Kitty moves in with Dolly. Peter’s sickly brother Nick arrives on the farm and wants to stay. Peter knows that Nick wants money, it’s an issue that constantly arises between them. Xander and Kasper head to the country to stay with Dolly and Kingsley. Dolly plans an impromptu dinner party, inviting Peter and Nick also. The night provides Peter the opportunity to have a moment with Kitty. She confesses to him that she regrets turning him down. They kiss and it’s fantastic. Short Synopsis Anna doesn’t like Xander keeping tabs on her, Skeet receives news that shocks him, Dolly arranges the worst dinner party ever but it does allow Peter and Kitty to meet again.

Micro Nation – Micro-Comedy
Giuffre: Micro Nation – Micro-Comedy MICRO NATION - MICRO-COMEDY Situation comedy and post-broadcast television Liz Giuffre University of Technology Sydney <[email protected]> Abstract This article considers how the concept of micronationality served as a launching pad for a broadcast comedy, the 2012 Australian television series, Micro Nation, set on the fictional island of Pullamawang. I argue that by setting the series within a fictional micronational environment, the creators were able to develop a distinct type of situation for the comedy, embedding the theme of relative size and isolation as a key aspect of the show’s content and utilising unusual production and broadcast techniques. The article’s analysis draws on literature from Television and Broadcast Studies, Island Studies and Genre Studies and reflects on the media representation of micronations more generally. Keywords Television; online television; comedy; micronations, Pullamawang Island Introduction Micro Nation is a short form Australian comedy series, set in a fictional micro- nation/state (see discussion below) first broadcast in 2012. Written by Andrew Garrick and funded by a grant issued as part of the national funding body, Screen Australia (through its ‘All Media Program’), the series consisted of 15 five minute episodes that were broadcast on week nights on digital television channel Eleven, and also made available online via the broadcast network’s website, Tenplay.com.au.1 The series also engaged directly with online audiences with the addition of production and story extras on the Tenplay.com.au site and the creation of a fictional Tumblr account for the micronation’s population, entitled The Pullamawang Tribune (2015).

But Sam’s relationship with the cruel and ill-tempered Harry quickly deteriorates, culminating in a violent shootout in which Sam kills Harry in self-defence. As a result, Sam becomes a wanted criminal for the murder of a white man, and is forced to flee with his wife across the deadly outback, through glorious but harsh desert country. FILM & DOCUMENATRY AWARDS In an unusual though not unprecedented twist, two feature films were awarded the AACTA Award for Best Film; THE BABADOOK (by first-time feature film director, Jennifer Kent) and THE WATER DIVINER (also marking a directorial debut for Russell Crowe). THE BABADOOK also took home the AACTA Award for Best Direction presented by Hyundai Genesis, and Best Original Screenplay. Despite a duel for Best Film, Feature Film acting awards were evenly distributed. Thomas Ward (Tom)
THOMAS WARD (TOM) In 2020 Thomas Ward became Co-executive Producer on season 2 of the Freeform comedy drama Everything’s Gonna Be Okay. Tom scripted three episodes for this season including the season finale. Season 2 premiered in 2021 to critical acclaim and is currently streaming on Hulu and Stan. Prior this Tom wrote a new series for ABC TV and All3Media – Diary of an Uber Driver. Tom was the sole writer on all six episodes. Diary of an Uber Driver was developed by Tom for Revlover Productions and premiered in August 2019 on ABC TV. The series was critically acclaimed and was optioned by streaming platform ‘Joyn’ for a German language version of the show. Diary of an Uber Driver is now streaming on Stan. Between 2012 and 2016 Tom was the co-star and co-writer of the award-winning and internationally-acclaimed series Please Like Me. The groundbreaking comedy-drama screened on Participant Media’s ‘Pivot’ network in the U.S. and Australia’s national broadcaster ABC TV, and is now streaming on Hulu (USA), Amazon Prime (UK & Ireland) and Netflix.
