Page 133 1 Mike J Doody President Welsh Indoor Bowls Association 2019/2020 Can I firstly say what an honour and a privilege it is to become the President of the WIBA. I would like to congratulate Peter Groom for the dedicated manner in which he carried out his duties as your President last year. It was a pleasure to be his Senior Vice President and I look forward to his support during my term in office. 2 My thanks go to the committee and members of Newport Indoor Bowls Club for nominating me for this prestigious position in Welsh Bowls. I am only the second person from Newport IBC to hold this position (after John Llewellyn) and I will do my utmost to maintain the standards set by all the previous incumbents of the Presidential position. I look forward to working alongside the Senior Vice President Michael Flanagan and Ken Henderson the Junior Vice President, together of course with Peter Groom. To the Officers of the Association I would say, Thank you for all your hard work, and please can we have more of the same. May I take this opportunity to thank all the club’s, on behalf of the WIBA, for allowing us the use of your stadiums to hold International and National competitions at all levels from Senior to Junior. Also thanks to the Welsh Coaching Association and the Welsh Bowls Umpires Association for all the hard work and assistance they give us. I would be pleased to accept any invites to stadiums and would be pleased to accept invitations from clubs wishing to host a Presidential match. I look forward to your support during my Presidential year and to meeting as many of you as possible. My chosen charity for the coming year is Children’s Air Ambulance Wales. Remember Bowls is a game for all. Please enjoy it and ensure you play the game in the best of spirits. Research at the Bank encompasses analytical work designed to produce results with wide applicability across countries or sectors. Bank research, in contrast to academic research, is directed toward recognized and emerg- ing policy issues and is focused on yielding better policy advice. Although motivated by policy problems, Bank research addresses longer-term concerns rather than the immediate needs of a particular Bank lending opera- tion or of a particular country or sector report. Activities classified as research at the Bank do not, therefore, include the economic and sector work and policy analysis carried out by Bank staff to support operations in particular countries. Economic and sector work and policy studies take the product of research and adapt it to specific pro- jects or country settings, whereas Bank research contributes to the intellectual foundations of future lending operations and policy advice. Both activities-research and economic and sector work-are critical to the design of successful projects and effective policy.
