MCA 700 Discography by David Edwards, Mike Callahan & Patrice Eyries © 2018 by Mike Callahan MCA-700 Midline/Reissue Series: By the time the reissue series reached MCA-700, most of the ABC reissues had been accomplished in the MCA 500-600s. MCA decided that when full price albums were converted to midline prices, the albums needed a new number altogether rather than just making the administrative change. In this series, we get reissues of many MCA albums that were only one to three years old, as well as a lot of Decca reissues. Rather than pay the price for new covers and labels, most of these were just stamped with the new numbers in gold ink on the front covers, with the same jackets and labels with the old catalog numbers. Wishbone Ash – Twin Barrels Burning + Raw To The Bone (Rereleases) (53:30, 39:40 / 57:35, 44:20, CD, Picture-Vinyl, Cherry Red, 2018) Zugegeben zählen beide Releases der Twin-Guitars nicht unbedingt zu den Sternstunden von Wishbone Ash – weder von den Songs noch vom Cover, welche grenzwertig („Twin Barrels Burning“) bis absolut vergeigt („To The Bone“) daherkommen. Die Band war in den Achtzigern angekommen – kein gutes Jahrzehnt für sie, obwohl man mit einem Album wie „Just Testing“ noch ganz gut begann, da es mit Songperlen wie ‚Living Proof‘ und ‚Helpless‘ aufwarten konnte. Auffallend war weiterhin der Verschleiß an Bassisten. Der in Proggerkreisen geschätzte John Wetton hatte 1981 für das Album „Number The Brave“ das Gründungsmitglied Martin Turner ersetzt. Es folgte Trevor Bolder (Uriah Heep) auf „Twin Barrels Burning“ und Mervyn Spence (Trapeze) auf „Raw To The Bone“. Das Jahrzehnt klang schließlich mit Andy Pyle (The Kinks) aus, der überdies auch noch einmal ausgetauscht wurde. Und das vom wieder in die Band hinzustoßenden Urmitglied Turner. Eben diese Unbeständigkeit färbte auch auf die Produktionen ab, die leider kaum noch etwas mit der Extravaganz zu tun hat, welche ja Wishbone Ash zu einer der erfolgreichsten Rock-Acts der Siebziger gemacht hatte. Mit Andy Powell und Schlagzeuger Steve Upton waren zwar noch Musiker aus der Anfangszeit präsent – ebenso ein Laurie Wisefield, der die Ash-Alben seit dem genialen „There’s The Rub“ gitarrentechnisch veredelte, aber irgendwie war von der ehemaligen melodiösen Energie kaum noch etwas zu spüren. Beide Platten enthalten Hardrocksongs Marke Nullachtfuffzehn und können leider kaum jemanden vom Hocker reißen. Immerhin hat sich das Remaster gelohnt, da die Werke tatsächlich klangtechnisch aufgemöbelt wurden.

Rock Album Discography Last up-date: September 27th, 2021 Rock Album Discography “Music was my first love, and it will be my last” was the first line of the virteous song “Music” on the album “Rebel”, which was produced by Alan Parson, sung by John Miles, and released I n 1976. From my point of view, there is no other citation, which more properly expresses the emotional impact of music to human beings. People come and go, but music remains forever, since acoustic waves are not bound to matter like monuments, paintings, or sculptures. In contrast, music as sound in general is transmitted by matter vibrations and can be reproduced independent of space and time. In this way, music is able to connect humans from the earliest high cultures to people of our present societies all over the world. Music is indeed a universal language and likely not restricted to our planetary society. The importance of music to the human society is also underlined by the Voyager mission: Both Voyager spacecrafts, which were launched at August 20th and September 05th, 1977, are bound for the stars, now, after their visits to the outer planets of our solar system (mission status: https://voyager.jpl.nasa.gov/mission/status/). They carry a gold- plated copper phonograph record, which comprises 90 minutes of music selected from all cultures next to sounds, spoken messages, and images from our planet Earth. There is rather little hope that any extraterrestrial form of life will ever come along the Voyager spacecrafts. But if this is yet going to happen they are likely able to understand the sound of music from these records at least.

I dare you to go up to Aaron Lewis and Success bred more success. In 2003 tell him he’s not a country boy. So what if Staind released 14 Shades of Gray which he’s from Massachusetts? So what if he’s likewise debuted at No. 1 on the charts, as spent the majority of his musical career did 2005’s Chapter V. Then, in 2006, Lewis bringing down the house with his hard rock made it to No. 49 on metal mag Hit Parad- outfit, Staind? Lewis, with his Popeye-like er’s Heavy Metal’s All-Time Top Vocalists. forearms (muscles, check; tattoos, check) is Not bad. Not bad at all. Staind’s most recent an intimidating dude. If he wants to go country, I say good for him. And he obviously has traded in his electric guitar for a twangy acous- tic, at least for his first solo effort Town Line, which came out March 1 on the label Stroudavarious Records. Unsung Classic Rock Heroes
Classic rock: unsung 6 string heroes!! “I’m a rock and outlaw with a six string gun…..” Foghat :circa 1975 Classic rock is a term used loosely to describe the albums released in the early to late 70’s by artists which have become legendary and therefore ‘classics”. Most of these albums/artists were highly original and would become influential on many other bands for generations to come. No matter what era you were born in since the 70’s almost ANY band you listen to would have been influenced by artists and bands from this era. So even if you are now only in your teens and you find you favourite band sounds “totally original” you can bet your bottom dollar that they were influenced by someone from this era.[even if they don’t even know it!] The seventies was a great era for music because it truly was a ground breaking time for original music. Nothing was copied, or rehashed, everyone had their own sound[even though , as always in music, the 70’s was a continuance and evolution of music from the 60’s, but it matured more fully in the 70’s] Band and artists such as led zeppelin, deep purple, jimi Hendrix , free, allman brothers, queen, black Sabbath, cream, david bowie, status quo are all examples of acts who made their start in the 60’s but found their sound and style in the 70’s, and therefore gave rise to many other bands who then added their own flavour to these styles. Less well know bands such as Uriah heap, wishbone ash, grand funk railroad, scorpions[who became quite huge in the 80’s], and thin lizzy are worthy of mentions but would not necessarily be known as legends, where as other acts such as Queen became absolutely huge and remain so to this day.
