Foreword:

Dhanbad is a premier coal loading division. It is also a leading revenue earning division of . Coal loaded in division is supplied to the Power Houses in Northern/Eastern India as well as different Thermal Stations within the division are transported through BOXN & BOBRN wagons.

The division has vast geographical area covering 4 states i.e. , , UP & MP. It deals with traffic on three important routes namely (GC) section from Pradhankhunta to Manpur, Central Industrial Coalfields (CIC) section from Gomoh-Barkakana-Garwa Road and Chopan section from Garwa Road to Chopan-Obra-Singrauli/Shaktinagar.

There are 15 C&W points in the division and department plays the pivotal role in ensuring timely and adequate availability of empty wagons required for coal transportation and 16 trains (Express:11, Passenger:5) are primarily maintained at the four different coaching depots of the division & secondary maintenance of one express train. All the C&W activities are controlled by Sr.DME (C&W) & Sr.DME (Coaching), they are assisted by four Sr.Scale Officers & three Assistant grade officers.

Freight Activities:

The major freight depots are located at Patherdih, Patratu, Barwadih & Obradam. Barwadih depot is only ROH depot in the division where ROH of BOBRN wagons are carried out along with facilities of DV overhauling & BOXN wheel turning.

Division maintains average 55-56 BOBRN CC rakes. These rakes are maintained at Patherdih, Barwadih & Obradam. The BOBRN CC rakes of Barwadih are normally run on 7500 Kms or 35 days basis for Northern region power houses i.e. Dadri/Unchahar/Ropar etc. Patherdih CC rakes run for Eastern region, mainly for Mejia Thermal Power station on 7500 kms/30 days validity. In addition Obra CC rakes are running in the close circuit of Chopan area.

Unloadable wagons like A & B category are repaired at Patratu, Patherdih & Obra depot. In-situ repair of unsuitable BOXN wagons are repaired at West Bokaro siding. Besides, in-situ repair of unloadable BOXN wagons has been introduced at various 31 Wharf loading sidings through 15 mobile unit equipped with portable Diesel Welding M/c along with 1 welder & 2 helpers round the clock has started from 17/12/18 and on load welding repairing works of unloadable wagons along with door closing of BOXN wagons at Kusunda, Phusro& Ray yard has also introduced from 08/02/19 for maximum availability of loadable wagons.

Coaching Activities:

Dhanbad is the major coaching depots of Dhanbad division having holding more than 300 coaches. Many important and prestigious express trains like Black Diamond, Ganga Damodar, Ganga Sutlej, Swarnrekha and Alappuzha Express are primarily maintained. Besides, Gomoh, Barkakana & Singrauli other three coaching depots are also maintaining express & passenger trains.

First time LHB rakes have been introduced in Dhanbad division. Conventional rakes of 13307/08 Ganga Sutlej Express have been replaced by LHB rake w.e.f. 25/04/18.

The division maintains 11 Express trains and 05 Passenger trains (total 39 rakes) & two-slip coach service ex Gomoh to is running with 13347/13348 BRKA-Patna Palamou Express and secondary maintenance of one express train (11045 Dikshabhoomi) also.

Total holding of coaches is 678 (ICF:531, LHB:105, OCV:42).

New rolling examination point, Latehar has started from 09/03/19.

 Linen management: Linen management has been switched over from Commercial Department to C&W department on & from 01/06/2011. Washing of linen has been outsourced for 03 years w.e.f. 11/09/15 to 10/09/18.

A blanket sanitization room (23x8 Ft.) has been provided in Linen section of Dhanbad Coaching complex where disinfection of blankets is carried out by blowing high pressure hot air through naphthalene balls. It has capacity to sanitize 80 blankets at a time within 20-25 minutes. Sanitization is carried out after completion of every trip. Division also started the work for washing of pillows from Apr-16.

Highlights:

 EnHM wing has been formed in the division under Sr.DME(C&W)/DHN and taken over the functions of Mechanized cleaning of A1 & A category stations (A1:DHN, A:GMO, PNME, KQR, DTO & SGRL) from Medical & Commercial department with effect from 24/10/17. One sanitary napkin vending machine & one sanitary napkin destroyers machine has been commissioned at Ladies Waiting hall, Dhanbad on 17/03/18 for improving women’s health & lives and destroyer is used for disposal of used napkins to keep environment clean.

 Development of bio-tank evacuator Dhanbad coaching depot has developed in- house one bio-tank evacuator for evacuating the accumulated wastes from the first chamber of bio-tanks of coach. The purpose is to remove small non-degradable objects like plastic wrappers/cups, gutkha pouches which enter the first chamber through P or S trap. Prolonged accumulation of non-degradable objects may result in overall choking of the system. One self priming Kirloskar pump (03 HP, RPM:2830, 03 Phase, Volt:415) and 150 litres capacity tank are mounted on light weight portable trolley for to-and-fro movement. The main features are: (i) Suction & Delivery pipe diameter: 50x50 mm. (ii) Solid handling size: 10 mm. (iii) Capacity head: 10 to 25 meter. (iv) Discharge: 09 to 0.8 LPS.

 Development of fixture for holding broken Equalizing stay tube Dhanbad coaching sick line has developed a simple fixture for holding broken equalizing stay tube of ICF coach which occasionally gets broken enroute during running. It is simple in design as four nos. of bolts (20x65 mm) are fixed on a piece of M.S.Plate (Length:805 mm, Width:50 mm & Thickness:12 mm) whose both ends are bent about 40 mm height. This fixture is placed under the broken equalizing stay tube & bent portion or lug portion firmly holds both ends of equalizing stay rod. After that, it is fastened by providing clamps (like omega sign “Ω”) & nuts at two places. Affected coach can be moved up to the destination after en-route attention.

 Development of Screw Gadget for changing broken Bolster Spring of ICF coach One screw gadget has been developed in- house by Dhanbad Coaching sick line for changing the broken bolster spring of ICF coach with the help of 02 nos. “U” clamp, one 20 ton Hydraulic jack, 20 ton Duff jack/Wooden blocks, Hammer, Spanner/ socket wrench 32 mm & Ring wrench 18- 19 mm.

 Cut model of coach for displaying the trainees One condemned coach has been converted into cut model for demonstrating the detail parts & their function to trainees of Dhanbad Training School (C&W).

 Cut model of bogie mounted brake cylinder has been developed at Dhanbad coaching sick line which is operated by air pressure and another brake cylinder. From this model, functioning of brake cylinder can be easily understood to the staff & trainees.

 Functional model of “Alarm Chain” has been developed and displayed in Dhanbad Coaching sick line for educational purpose.

 Spring testing device has been developed at Dhanbad coaching sick line for grouping of springs.

 Development of ICF & LHB spring carrier trolley In Sep’18, Dhanbad coaching sick line has developed in-house one foldable trolley for easy carrying ICF & LHB spring from store to working point. To avoid any denting marks on spring coils during movement, supporting rods under the coil spring have been ensured with rubber.

 AMOC of 534 bio-toilets per month has been awarded for a period of two years to keep bio-toilet functional.

 Provision of dustbin in coach lavatory 1941 nos. dustbins have been provided in all the toilets of coaches of all rakes originating from Dhanbad division. Chain & iron brackets have also been provided as anti-pilferage measure.

 Fueling Point: Work of extension of fueling point has been completed & commissioned in Jan’19 from RCD/DHN to Coaching pit, Dhanbad through works contract for fueling of LHB Power cars at coaching pit which would avoid undue shunting of power cars for fueling purposes.

 Fitment of Fire extinguishers with anti-theft arrangement in non-AC coaches In July’18, 100 nos. of fire extinguishers with anti-theft arrangement have been procured & fitted in four rakes of all non-AC sleeper coaches of 13307/13308 Ganga Sutlej express & one rake of 13329/13330 Ganga Damodar Express.

 Fresh contract of Mechanized cleaning of coaches of trains originating from Singrauli, Gomoh, Barkakana & Dhanbad has been awarded along with cleaning of turn-round trains and cleaning of pit & depot premises. In addition, cleaning & watering of turn-round trains of Chopan, Barwadih & Shaktinagar are also included in contract.

 Outsourcing of daily watering of en-route trains during halt at Gomoh & Chopan stations has been started.

 Provision of Booster pumps 02 Nos. of Booster pumps has been commissioned on 29/06/18 at Gomoh station in between Platform No. 2 & 3 and Platform No. 4 & 5 for covering full & fast watering of trains of Platform No. 2, 3, 4 & 5.

 Rolling-in/out examination lights of Dhanbad & Gomoh platforms have been upgraded based on CAMTECH model with provision of iron box & 03 nos. of LED lights in each box.

 Comprehensive AMC of BEMCO make HRE (ART/DHN: 2 sets & ART/GMO:1 set) has been awarded to BEMCO, Karnataka on 26/12/18 for a period of five (05) years.

 AMC of Main Engine of 140ton BD Crane of DHN & BRWD has awarded to Cummins, Pune on 04/12/18 for 02 & 03 years respectively.

 Formation of Ladies gang for upper gear maintenance A batch consisting of 10 lady Technicians has been formed at Dhanbad depot for maintenance of upper gears of 13329/13330 Ganga Damodar Express. They are engaged with Carpentry, Plumbing, Trimming & Painting works and fittings of Magazine bags, Bottle holders & tower bolts etc.

Freight:

 In-situ repair of unloadable wagons (Highest-ever) Repair of unsuitable wagons has been out sourced at 31 wharf loading sidings along with west Bokaro and at 03 yards viz KDS, PUS and Ray. During the financial year 2018-19, 23851 unsuitable wagons were repaired at these sidings/yards, thus revenue up to the tunes of 186 Cr. has been generated additionally.

 Wagon ineffective (Lowest-ever) Division has been able to keep the lowest wagon ineffective in 2018-19 and registered an improvement of 12% over the target & 42% over the last year.

 Refurbishment of 1200 nos. old CTRB (Timken make) has been awarded to M/s TIMKEN. Firm has started work from Dec’18 & 400 defective CTRB were repaired for BRWD ROH depot.

 Door checking of BOBRN rakes at unloading sidings i.e. staff are being deputed at MTPS/ER, BTPS & KPSH unloading sidings to ensure proper closing of doors at siding premises after unloading & to minimize detention of rake.

 Enhancement of validity of BPC from 6000 Kms/30 days to 7500 Kms/35 days: As per the competent authority, validity of OBRA & PEH based BOBRN CC rakes have been enhanced from 6000 Kms/30 days to 7500 Kms/35 days w.e.f. Oct. 2018 for effective utilization.

 Annual Maintenance Contract of 25/7 Ton EOT crane (Make: Unique Industrial Handler Pvt. Ltd, Mumbai) of Barwadih has been awarded on 03/12/18 to M/S Jai Technical services, Kolkata for a period of one year.
