Like the previous game against FC Motown, chances were at a premium in the first half. Atlantic City FC scored on their lone shot attempt to make the halftime score 1-0. The game began to open up in the second half as both teams recorded shots at a faster pace. FC Monmouth was able to tie the game in the 64th minute, as forward Jacob Rubinstein intercepted a pass from the Atlantic City FC goalkeeper as he tried to clear the ball. Rubinstein immediately shot the ball upon receiving it, scoring his third goal of the season. The score remained 1-1 the rest of the way, with both teams having a solid scoring opportunity after the 90th minute. FC Monmouth’s record now stands at 2-2-3, and the club sits in a position where they can make a run over their final three games to possibly clinch a playoff berth. That stretch is a historic one, as the club will begin a three-game road swing to end the regular season. It will mark the first time in club history that it will play three-straight road games. The road trip begins with a stop to face West Chester United SC, who currently sits atop the Keystone Conference with a 6-1-0 record and 18 points. They, like FC Monmouth, have one of the highest scoring offenses in the conference with 19 goals. West Chester United SC’s lone loss came against Atlantic City FC on May 30, and have won four games since. Tonight’s Opponent: West Chester United SC Founded in 2017, West Chester United SC has qualified for the playoffs in every season of its existence. In its debut season, West Chester went 6-2-2, finishing third in the Keystone Conference. In the conference semifinals, they fell 1-0 to the Clarkstown SC Eagles. In 2018, West Chester continued their success with a 7-3-0 record, again finishing third in the conference. They defeated Junior Lone Star 2-2 (4-3 on penalties) in the Keystone Semifinals to advance to their first ever conference championship game. Again, they went to penalties, but falling this time 4-3 at the hands of the eventual National Runner-Up FC Motown. Most recently, they went 7-2-1 in 2019, and fell to FC Motown 3-2 in the Keystone Conference Semifinals. Like FC Motown, they also now have a team in USL League 2. They also sit atop their conference in that competition, with a record of 8-1-2. Series History (Tied 1-1-0) June 30, 2018 Count Basie Park, Red Bank, NJ FC Monmouth 1, West Chester 0 June 29, 2019 WCUSC Soccer Club, West Chester, PA West Chester 4, FC Monmouth 0 Things to Know Hitting the Road FC Monmouth will plays its final three games of the regular season on the road, which sets a new club record for consecutive road games. All-time, FC Monmouth has a record of 6-7-1 on the road. The club finished its 2021 home slate with a record of 1-1-2, collecting five of its nine points at Count Basie Park. The Tough Stretch Continues FC Monmouth’s second half schedule has been among the toughest in the conference. Four of its five games come against clubs that are ahead of them in the standings, and in terms of the remaining contests, they will play two teams ahead of them. So far, they are 0-1-1, and are in a position to make a run for a playoff berth. Pereira’s Impressive Career Continues Defender Zachary Pereira hit another milestone with his start against Atlantic City FC on June 18, becoming the first player in club history to eclipse 2,000 minutes for his FC Monmouth career. Earlier this season, he became the club leader in games played. Another Historic Moment With his goal against FC Motown on June 12, forward Walter Calderon moved into sole possession of first place in club history for goals scored. He is also currently tied for second in the NPSL with eight goals. High-Octane Offense FC Monmouth has scored 20 goals this season, setting a new all-time mark for goals in a season. The club scored 17 in 2018, and 18 in 2019. FC Monmouth broke the record in four less games, and continues to be on pace to set numerous offensive records this season. A Thriller in Red Bank After trailing by four goals at the halftime break, FC Monmouth recorded four of their own to draw 4-4 against First State FC on June 5. It marked the first time in club history that FC Monmouth erased a multi-goal deficit to tie a game. It also marked the third time in club history that the team scored four goals in a single half, with the other two instances coming against Torch FC on May 29. Historic Night at Count Basie Park FC Monmouth scored a club record 11 goals on May 29 against Torch FC. They became the first Keystone Conference club to reach that since 2017. It also broke its single game scoring record of four in the 28th minute, and scored at least five goals in each half. Stellar Defense FC Monmouth held Torch FC to just seven shots on May 29, which was the fewest for an opponent since June 23, 2018. The club also limited Torch FC to just three shots on target. Pereira Sets Another Record With his start against Electric City Shock SC on May 19, defender Zachary Pereira became the club’s all-time leader in games played (21). Pereira is also the FC Monmouth all-time leader in minutes played, and the only player to have played in all three seasons. A New Partnership In February of 2020, FC Monmouth and Jackson Lions FC announced a partnership in which Jackson Lions FC players would suit up for FC Monmouth during the NPSL season. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2021 season will mark the first season in which the partnership comes to fruition on the field. FC Monmouth’s 2021 roster features more than 10 players from Jackson Lions FC. Around the Keystone Conference 2021 Standings 1.) West Chester United SC (6-1-0, 18 pts, +10 GD) 2.) Reading United A.C. 3103 Paper Mill Rd. Wyomissing, PA 19610 www.readingunitedac.com Press Release Contact: Ryan Lineaweaver, Director of Communications and Marketing [email protected] 610-914-6971 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Reading Falls In Season Opener A four-goal halftime deficit was too much for United in loss BETHLEHEM, PA (May 16, 2021) – A four-goal stretch across just 16 minutes of game time proved to be too much for Reading United to overcome in a 5-1 loss to Lehigh Valley United on Saturday evening. With the loss, Reading drops to 0-1 on the season, while LVU improved to 1-1. Goals in the 23rd, 27th, 31st, and 39th minutes by the home side put Reading in a position it hasn’t been in over a decade’s worth of games. Midfield miscommunication and turnovers led to several counter attacks which left Reading stunned. A fifth LVU goal in the 70th minute shut the door permanently. Nick Pariano put in his first in a United kit to pull one back for Reading in the 73rd minute, but it was much too late for Reading to mount a significant comeback. Pariano led the team with four of their seven shots. Lyam MacKinnon had two of his own, while Marcus Brenes had one. Carson Williams made five saves in net. Reading looks to get back on the winning track on Wednesday evening, as they face the 2-0-1 West Chester United SC in West Chester. ABOUT READING UNITED AC Reading United A.C. is the Greater Reading area’s premier minor league soccer team.
