  • MONTEREY Monterey Has a Rich and Colorful History with Explorers of the 2018 National Convention New World
Welcome to &TS 20 H 1 P 8 S M O A C N , TE R EY MONTEREY Monterey has a rich and colorful history with explorers of the 2018 National Convention New World. It was first discovered by Spanish explorer Juan Rodriquez Cabrillo on November 17, 1542. In December, 1602, Time Table No. explorer Sebastian Vizcaino became the first European to set foot on what he called “La Bahia de Monterey” in honor of the Viceroy of New Spain. 168 years later, Captain Gaspar de Por- tola landed to establish a Presidio, and Monterey was founded on June 3, 1770. It had the honor of being the Capital of Alta California under both Spain and Mexico. The historic city had California’s first theater, public library and newspaper. In later years, Monterey would become famous for its fishing industry, and later for its canning industry, made famous in John Stein- beck’s novel, Cannery Row. We are proud to hold our conven- tion in this beautiful and historic city. 38IN EFFECT CONVENTION REGISTRATION INFORMATION 12:01 a.m. Pacific Standard Time Wednesday, October 31 through Please pick up your registration packet at the registration desk.
