' •" . The measured quantities of reed and periphyton and the results of the chemical analysis provide data to the exploration and assessment of the littoral zone, especially the periphyton settled on reeds, playing an important role in the water quality regulation of the lake. The quantities of nitrogen and phosphorus measured in periphyton in the case of the Bay of Keszthely are particularly remarkable: 2.4 gN.nf2 and 0.25 gP.m"2 of reed stands. Considering the 480 hectare reed stand of the bay, the quantity of nitrogen and phosphorus is estimated at 8000 kg N and 900 kg P. Introduction ; . Our waters are endangered by eutrophication nowadays and Lake Balaton is no exception. The menace to the healthy state of the lake comes from two directions. -

High resolution 40Ar/39Ar plateau ages on 18 samples have been obtained to determine the age range 16 for the western Pannonian Basin Neogene intracontinental volcanic province. The new 40Ar/39Ar age determinations confirm the 17 previously obtained K/Ar ages in the sense that no systematic biases were found between the two data sets. -

(Social and Economic Development of Settlements of Veszprém County). Deturope. 11(2), 169-184. Abstract In Hungary, there have been strong changes in economic and social life since the change of regime. The significant differences within the country have further increased. However, this is not typical only for Hungary but also for the EU. However, there are differences not only between the regions but also at county level and even within the counties. The study shows the development differences in Veszprém County at settlement level. With the help of the so-called Complex Development Indicator the development order of settlements was established. Six of the ten most developed settlements are located on the shore of Lake Balaton, one of them belongs to the category of background settlements (Óbudavár), and there are also three other settlements (Veszprém, Pápa, Megyer). At the end of the ranking, there is no Lake Balaton settlement. Besides that only two backround settlements (Barnag and Uzsa) can be found at the end of the list. -
