Here, we conducted PET along with postmortem assays to investigate time course changes of excitatory and inhibitory synaptic constituents in an rTg4510 mouse model of tauopathy, which develops tau pathologies leading to noticeable brain atrophy at 5-6 months of age. Both male and female mice were analyzed in this study. We observed that radiosignals derived from [11C]flumazenil, a tracer for benzodiazepine receptor, in rTg4510 mice were significantly lower than the levels in nontransgenic littermates at 2- 3 months of age. In contrast, retentions of (E)-[11C]ABP688, a tracer for mGluR5, were unaltered relative to controls at 2 months of age but then gradually declined with aging in parallel with progressive brain atrophy.

Released by Key in mid-2007, Little Busters! marked the departure of many central members of the studio's development staff, as well as the introduction of many others. The game's original soundtrack went through similar changes from past works. While Jun Maeda once again contributed a good deal to the soundtrack, Magome Togoshi and Shinji Orito play a greatly reduced role, and the majority of the composition is left to the hands of a handful of newcomers to Key's scores: PMMK and Manack, with all of the vocals handled by Rita. Can the new generation of visual novel composers, in conjunction with the old, successfully build on the successes of Air and Clannad ? Jun Maeda composes the game's opening theme, "Little Busters!," of which several variations are present. The piece is wonderfully peppy, even though it may not break any new ground; the melody and accompaniment, especially the light touches on the piano, are thoroughly enjoyable. "RING RING RING!," the theme of the title's main heroine, is hauntingly evocative. The motif introduced in the pieces beginning is almost dizzying, and complements the theme itself quite nicely as it builds to a satisfying crescendo. Introduced with a short guitar segment, "BOYS DON'T CRY" is a rather enchanting piece, feigning simplicity yet involving the listener with its every note. "Waking Up in the Morning" rather brilliantly puts to music the simple act described in its title, slowly and gradually building from a murmur as if to accompany the opening of one's eyelids.

arts Article From Novels to Video Games: Romantic Love and Narrative Form in Japanese Visual Novels and Romance Adventure Games Kumiko Saito Department of Languages, Clemson University, Clemson, SC 29634, USA; [email protected] Abstract: Video games are powerful narrative media that continue to evolve. Romance games in Japan, which began as text-based adventure games and are today known as bishojo¯ games and otome games, form a powerful textual corpus for literary and media studies. They adopt conventional literary narrative strategies and explore new narrative forms formulated by an interface with computer- generated texts and audiovisual fetishism, thereby challenging the assumptions about the modern textual values of storytelling. The article ﬁrst examines differences between visual novels that feature female characters for a male audience and romance adventure games that feature male characters for a female audience. Through the comparison, the article investigates how notions of romantic love and relationship have transformed from the modern identity politics based on freedom and the autonomous self to the decentered model of mediation and interaction in the contemporary era. The thesis is divided into three parts, based on chronological divisions in McLaren's life. The first part deals with McLaren's formative years in Scotland and England and examines his early exposure to the social, artistic and institutional influences that were to shape his filmic output. The second part deals with Mclaren's maturation in the USA and Canada. His reaction to the contrasting working environment he found in each of the two countries is examined. In order to show McLaren's development more clearly, both parts one and two are based on a chronological sequencing. The third part of the thesis examines specific issues in relation to Mclaren and his work and as such is concerned principally with his mature output. McLaren's films contain incongruities, conflicts and apparent inconsistencies.

Anime has its own fan culture in the United States known as otaku, or the obsessive lifestyle surrounding manga and anime, which has resulted in American production companies creating their own “anime.” Japanese filmmakers do not regard anime simply as a cartoon, but instead realize it as genre of film, such as action or comedy. However, Japanese anime is not only dynamic and influential because of its storylines, characters, and themes, but also for its purposeful choices in music. Since the first anime Astro Boy and through films such as Akira, Japanese animation companies combine their history from the past century with modern or “westernized” music. Unlike cartoon films produced by Disney or Pixar, Japanese anime do not use music to mimic the actions on-screen; instead, music heightens and deepens the plot and emotions. This concept is practiced in live-action feature films, and although anime consists of hand-drawn and computer-generated cartoons, Japanese directors and animators create a “film” experience with their dramatic choice of music.
