    A CASE STUDY OF ORGANIZATIONAL LEARNING AND TRANSITIONS IN HIGHER EDUCATION: RICKS COLLEGE BECOMES BRIGHAM YOUNG UNIVERSITY–IDAHO A Dissertation Presented in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy with a Major in Education in the College of Graduate Studies University of Idaho by LaNae Hammon Poulter November 15, 2007 Major Professor: Roger L. Scott, Ph.D. iii ABSTRACT This qualitative case study takes advantage of the opportunity to focus on organizational learning during a season of change in higher education as Ricks College became Brigham Young University–Idaho. This case investigates an organization dedicated to higher education which is experiencing rapid and extreme change in its physical, institutional, and human infrastructure. Open-ended questioning during interviews and focus groups inductively led to a view of the grand tour question: “How was organizational learning demonstrated during times of extreme change and the ongoing transition of becoming Brigham Young University–Idaho?” The researcher listened to 27 participants and wove their stories together to present a tapestry of the transition. Participants described their mixed response to the announcement that Ricks College would become BYU–Idaho. Then the purposefully selected administrators, faculty, staff, students, and community leader shared their experiences of the first five years as BYU–Idaho. Interrelated aspects of the transition guided the discussion: (1) faculty, (2) budget, (3) space, (4) degree programs, (5) support services, and (6) students. Even though the participants share common values as members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, these adults learned individually to adapt to a changing world.

We have traced the history of our Bar Memorial back to at least 1898, in a courthouse that is long gone, but had a beauty and charm that made it a fitting location for this gathering. We say “at least 1898,” because there is speculation that the practice of offering annual unwritten memorials began in 1857. Regardless of its date of origin, the Bar Memorial is now well into its second century, and it is a tradition that is certain to continue simply because it is right— and it is good. Buildings come and go, but the Bar Memorial has always found a suitable home, including in the chambers of the Minneapolis City Council, the boardroom of the Hennepin County Commissioners, and in Judge James Rosenbaum’s magnificent courtroom.

    What Literature Knows: Forays Into Literary Knowledge Production

Merten Kai / What Literature Knows This volume sheds light on the nexus between knowledge and literature. Arranged What Literature Knows historically, contributions address both popular and canonical English and Antje Kley US-American writing from the early modern period to the present. They focus on how historically specific texts engage with epistemological questions in relation to Forays into Literary Knowledge Production material and social forms as well as representation. The authors discuss literature as a culturally embedded form of knowledge production in its own right, which deploys narrative and poetic means of exploration to establish an independent and sometimes dissident archive. Her research interests focus on aesthetic forms and cultural functions of narrative, both autobiographical and fictional, in changing media environments between the eighteenth century and the present. Kai Merten is professor of British Literature at the University of Erfurt, Germany. His research focuses on contemporary poetry in English, Romantic culture in Britain as well as on questions of mediality in British literature and Postcolonial Studies. He is also the founder of the Erfurt Network on New Materialism.

    PASSING of TOM BOYER We Are Saddened to Share the Passing Of

    October 12, 2018 Visit us online at www.wpma.com WP-10-12-18 -18 -16 PASSING OF TOM BOYER -13 -08 We are saddened to share the passing of Tom Boyer, 73, owner of Treasure Valley Coffee Company in Boise, Idaho. He passed away September 30, 2018 in a grassy Owyhee County Idaho valley with his dog, Ellie. Tom was a long-time supporter of WPMA and has exhibited at the WPMAEXPO for almost 20 years. Tom was born in Bremerton, Washington and moved to Boise with his family as a child. Tom’s life-long love affair with the Owyhee mountains began early when his father Henry took the family there for outdoor adventures; fishing, hunting and hiking. After working 15 years for Boyd’s Coffee of Portland, Oregon, Tom moved back to Boise in 1984 and started Treasure Valley Coffee with his wife, Carol and son, Greg. Tom’s love of sales, service and great coffee was a winning combination for 34 years, leaving a blueprint for success that will continue to flourish in his memory. Tom’s sanctuary was the wilderness. He loved hiking, fishing, boating, water and snow skiing, off road dirt bikes, bicycling, exploring trails in his ATV, or just driving down the road and spotting a hawk. Whether flying in the back country to camp or for a fly-in breakfast, he loved being in the air. Tom flew for many work events, which was a great time saver. He enjoyed being a part of the close-knit Idaho Aviation community. A memorial service will be held for Tom on Saturday, October 13th at 1:00 p.m.

This is opportunity. The technology provides those who want to produce journalism with so many more tools, it’s as if we were building houses with a saw, a hammer, screwdriver, and now we have all the tools that you could get at Home Depot to do that job better. People who felt disrupted need to feel as if there’s enormous potential and opportunity. The future of journalism—as it does for anything else—belongs to people who believe in the future. And optimism is extremely important to this. And in this first session, you’re going to hear from somebody who is really doing it on the ground. If you don’t Clark Gilbert, you are in for a really significant treat. Clark is the CEO of Deseret News Publishing Company and Deseret Digital Media. And he will explain to you why those are two different companies. He was Professor of Entrepreneurial Management at Harvard Business School. He worked closely with Clayton Christensen, who if you don’t know, is the author of Innovator’s Dilemma. Clark was involved in trying to innovate the university when he was Associate Academic Dean and Vice President of Brigham Young University in Idaho, in charge of online learning and distance education.

Action No. 97-0160, ordering NRWC to respond to Interrogatory No. 3 and Document Request No. 3, as modified by the Court. INTRODUCTORY COAKMENTS Intemgatory No. 3 and Document Request No. 3 relate to activities from more than four years ago. NRTWC has experienced changes in personnel over those years, and documents may no longer exist, if they ever existed. Nonetheless, “WC, with the assistance of counsel and staff, has conducted a diligent search for documents and facts, and responds on the basis of information so gathered. The Court limited the scope of Interrogatory No. 3 and Document Request No. 3 to the 1992 senatorial candidates, and the Commission, by its attorneys in discussions with “WC counsel, has further limited the scope to the 1992 general election senatorial candidates. Thus, NRTWC’s search has focused on the 1992 general election senatorial candidates. Also, the Commission and NRTWC, in briefing and in discussions between counsel, have agreed that NRTWC may redact documents to delete supporter-identitjing information from documents to be produced, and NRTWC is doing so.
