Från invandrarkyrka till mångkulturellt samfund. En kyrkosociologisk analys av katolska kyrkan i Sverige från 1970-tal till 1990-tal. (From Immigration Church to a Multicultural Church. A Church Sociological Analysis of the Catholic Church in Sweden from the 1970’s to the 1990’s. Written in Swedish with a summary in English). 265 pp. Uppsala. ISBN 91-628-3502-5. This dissertation is focusing upon the Catholic Church of Sweden and her transformation from a marginal minority church of immigrants to a multicultural congregation, which has become the second in size after the Lutheran State Church. The process of change is studied in relation to the Swedish Immigration’s Policy and the different existing cultural paradigms that have existed since the Second World War. The principal part of this study is to increase the sociological knowledge about the Catholic Church of Sweden and analyse the future crossroads the Church will be facing in the future and how the social-pastoral work is being effected by external and internal factors. The dissertation has been focussed on four levels: Society , Church, Group/community , and Individual . The Swedish authorities have not so far seen religion and the churches as main social actors. The Swedish model tends to give the State monopoly in the production, regulation and financing of welfare services. Through the debate about Civil Society, other social actors such as the Non Governmental Organisations, the private sector and family/informal social networks are slowly transforming the Swedish welfare state. The Catholic Church in Sweden would need entrepreneurs if her social role should be increased. The actual leadership of the Catholic Church of Sweden has not changed substantially from the 1970’s to the 1990’s. On a central level, the church has had an Anglo-Saxon/German leadership, which was moderate/conservative in vision and modern in mission. On the parish level, the Slavic influence has increased with a more explicit conservative and traditional view on faith. National parishes are not allowed in the Catholic Church in Sweden, as the bishops believe that could lead to disunion, ethnic and cultural challenges. Thus, national groups have been created which comprise approximately half of the registered Catholics in Sweden. The dissertation concludes that the Catholic Church in Sweden has a multicultural composition of her members, her leadership is multicultural but without a manifested multicultural vision. Pearson Professor Emeritus of Religious Studies University of California, Santa Barbara Abstract In 1973, Morton Smith of Columbia University published a manuscript consisting of three pages inscribed in an 18th century hand in the blank pages of a 17th century edition of the letters of Ignatius of Antioch that he allegedly found in a Palestinian monastery in 1958. The manuscript consisted of the opening of a letter attributed to Clement of Alexandria addressed to a certain Theodore. The letter treats a “secret gospel of Mark” that was said to be in use in initiation ceremonies in the Alexandrian church. Two quotations from the secret gospel are given: a longer one depicting the raising of a young man in a tomb and his subsequent initiation by Jesus into “the mystery of the kingdom of God” and a shorter one in which Jesus refuses to meet with three women.

Heymericus de Campo: Dyalogus super Reuelacionibus Beate Birgitte A Critical Edition with an Introduction by ANNA FREDRIKSSON ADMAN Dissertation for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Latin presented at Uppsala University in 2003 ABSTRACT Fredriksson Adman, A. 2003: Heymericus de Campo: Dyalogus super Reuelacionibus beate Birgitte. A Critical Edition with an Introduction. 242 p Uppsala. ISBN 91-554-5694-4 This dissertation contains an edition of Dyalogus super Reuelacionibus beate Birgitte, which is a discussion and defence of the Revelations (Reuelaciones) of St. Birgitta of Sweden (ca. 1303-1373). In legal proceedings at the Council of Basle (1431-1449), the Reuelaciones were accused of heresy, examined and defended. Among the defenders was Heymericus de Campo (1395-1460), who at that time was professor of theology at the University of Cologne. In addition to the formal examination reports, Heymericus wrote a dialogue on the subject. The Dyalogus, which was probably composed as a contribution to a debate, is tentatively dated to have been written between October 1434 and February 17, 1435. The main part of Dyalogus consists of 123 text passages extracted from the Reuelaciones and accused of heresy, and Heymericus’ defence of these text passages. The aim of the defence is to prove that the Reuelaciones are truly orthodox and thus inspired by God. In addition, Heymericus intends to display the reasons and arguments the impugners had for questioning the Reuelaciones. Dyalogus and the other defences were read and copied foremost within the Birgittine order. The judgement passed at the proceedings called for a commentary before the Reuelaciones could be disseminated to the whole of their extent.

Maria H. Oen Chapter 13 The Locus of Truth: St Birgitta of Sweden and the Pilgrimage to the Holy Land The Son of God speaks to blessed Birgitta, his bride, saying: “Go now and depart from Rome for Jerusalem! Why do you bring up the excuse of your age? I am the crea- tor of nature. I can weaken or strengthen nature, just as I please. I shall be with you. I shall direct your way. I shall lead you there and bring you back to Rome, and I shall procure for you what you need, more sufficiently than you have ever had before.”1 With these words, Christ exhorts the Swedish noblewoman Birgitta Birgersdotter (c.1303–1373) to leave the city that had been her home for more than two decades and to undertake a pilgrimage to the Holy Land. The quotation is taken from Birgitta’s Liber celestis revelacionum (The heavenly book of revelations, hereafter referred to as Revelaciones), a work that claims to record divine visions she re- ceived from the time of her husband’s death, in Sweden in the mid-1340s, until her own death, in Rome in 1373.2 Birgitta is said to have experienced hundreds of 1 “Filius Dei loquitur beate Birgitte sponse sue dicens: ‘Ite iam et recedite de Roma ad Iherusalem! Ego ero vobiscum, ego dirigam viam vestram, ego ducam et reducam vos ad Roman [sic] et procurabo vobis necessaria sufficiencius quam vmquam habuistis prius.’” Birgitta of Sweden, Revelaciones Books I–VIII, 8 vols, ed.
