ABOUT PANTANAL Pantanal is the largest wetland area in the world featuring a true patchwork of habitats ranging from areas of dry forest, riparian forests, and “cerrados” to swamps. This is one of the best places in Brazil to watch large and . We will visit the Aguape Lodge in an excellent environment for birdwatching, where over 300 species have been recorded. The Lodge is located 195 kilometres from Campo Grande city, which has an International Airport, and 60 kilometres from Aquidauana city, which is known as the gateway to the Pantanal. Interesting bird species are Undulated Tinamou, Capped , Southern Screamer, Jabiru, Plumbeous Ibis, Hyacinth Macaw, Blaze‑winged Parakeet, Gilded Hummingbird, Toco Toucan, Pale‑crested and White‑fronted Woodpecker, Red‑billed Scythebill, Helmeted Manakin and the Scarlet‑headed Blackbird. Night birding for Spectacled and Striped Owl, Common and Great Potoo. Very realistic chances to see mammals as Crab- eating Fox, Ocelot, Azara’s Agouti, Crab-eating , Capybara, Giant Anteater, Southern Tamandua, Marsh Deer and River Otter.

DAY BY DAY ITINERARY

July 10th – Meet ALL the participants at Campo Grande Airport at 9:00am

July 15th – End of the trip at Campo Grande city, arriving at the airport at 4:00pm.

Day 1 - July 10 • Arrival and reception at Campo Grande Airport. Transfer by van or mini-bus to Aguapé Lodge (around 4hs drive). Check-in and lunch. Afternoon birding around the lodge until the end of the day looking for birds such the Chaco Chachalaca, Hyacinth Macaw, Blue-fronted Parrot, Nanday Parakeet, Toco Toucan, Lineated and White Woodpeckers, Narrow-Billed Woodcreeper, Greater Thornbird, Giant Cowbird, Crested Oropendola, Purplish and Plush-crested Jays, Red-crested Cardinal and many others. Dinner and checklist.

Day 2 - July 11 • After an early breakfast with a lot of bird species around us, we will go on a Safari drive with good chances to see the Jabiru , Savanna Hawk, Rufescent Tiger Heron, Buff-necked and Plumbeous Ibises, Roseate Spoonbill, Hyacinth and Yellow-collared Macaw, Red-billed Scythebill, Orange-backed Troupial, and many others. After lunch we will have two hours break and them we will make a Safari drive until the end of the day with chances to see some mammals such as the Crab-eating Fox, South-American Coati, Capybara, Marsh Deer, South-American Coati, Southern Tamandua, Crab-eating Raccoon and night birds such as the Common and Great Potoo, Pauraque and Scissor-tailed Nightjar. Day 3 - July 12 • After an early breakfast we will have a bird watching walk with realistic chances to see Great Rufous Woodcreeper, Blaze-winged Parakeet, Black- crowned Tityra, Chestnut-eared Aracari and Ferruginous Pygmy-Owl. After lunch we will do a motorboat excursion at Aquidauana River. This river is full of life with good chances to see a family of Giant River Otters and special birds as the Black-collared Hawk, 5 species of Kingfishers, Rufous-tailed Jacamar, Blue-throated Piping Guan and many others. Dinner and checklist.

Day 4 - July 13 • After an early breakfast we will have a bird watching walk around the lodge to try to find Whistling Heron, Crane Hawk, Laughing and Aplomado Falcon, Red-legged Seriema, Long-tailed Ground Dove, Nacunda Nighthawk, Chaco Puffbird, White-wedged Piculet, Great and Barred Antshrikes, Rusty-backed Antwren, Chotoy Spinetail, White-rumped Tanager, Black-throated Saltator, Red-crested Finch, Masked Gnatcatcher and White-rumped Monjita. After lunch we will have two hours break and them we will make a Safari drive until the end of the day looking for birds and mammals that we have not seen during the trip. Dinner and checklist.

Day 5 - July 14 • After an early breakfast we will have a bird watching walk in a gallery forest looking for birds as the Blue-crowned Trogon, Rufous Casiornis, Mato Grosso Antbird, Band-tailed Manakin, Rusty-fronted Tody-Flycatcher, Gray-headed Tanager and White-lored Spinetail. After lunch we will have two hours break and them we will make a Safari drive until the end of the day looking for birds and mammals that we have not seen during the trip. Dinner and checklist.

Day 6 - July 15 • After an early breakfast we will have a bird watching walk looking for birds that we have not seen during the trip. After lunch, transfer to Campo Grande city to catch a flight that departure to São Paulo city around 6:00pm. End of the trip.
