Letter from the President By Casey Kennedy, CHOA Board President

Happy New Year! I’d first like to thank the communications committee on their efforts to resurrect the Cat Hollow ROAR. As you may remember, the previous newsletters were filled with advertisements (mainly to cover the cost of printing and mailing). The “new and improved” version is green (no cost to print/mail) and promises to be full of good information about the neighborhood. With the passing of 2008, the CHOA completed two major projects. The first project was to restore the grass along the median of O’Connor. This was done last spring, and we hope that most of it comes back (despite the MUD turning off our water). The bigger project was the fence repairs and additions. You’ll notice that the fencing around the entire neighborhood is now uniform. I thank Director Kim Filiatrault for leading this project and seeing it to completion. In 2009, we have several committees pushing forth several projects. We hope to continue to beautify our wonderful neighborhood. As always, feel free to contact the Board about any CHOA issues. You can do so through Alliance (our property management group) by calling 347-2888. We also enjoy it when other homeowners (besides us on the Board) come to the Board meetings. It’s a great way to get involved with the community and to find out the latest of what’s going on.

Landscape Report by Maina Macharia, Chairman, CHOA Landscape Committee

Hello fellow Cat Hollow residents, The landscape committee is pleased to provide you with our monthly report. You may be wondering what the Landscape committee does considering the drought we’ve had over the past year. Or “how can I get involved if I have comments or suggestions for improving Cat Hollow’s Landscape?” You can talk to any of us or call Alliance. We’re always open to new ideas; the current committee consists of Bonnie Bisher, Casey Kennedy, Kim Filiatrault, Lori Filiatrault, and me. Cat Hollow has landscape maintenance and improvements budgets. The landscape committee works with the Board to define these budgets based on our existing and future needs. We also work closely with our landscape contractor (Ecosystems) to ensure the maintenance of flower beds and trees, and irrigation/mowing services are up to agreed upon standards. Ecosystems also help us with recommendations about our landscaping. The landscape committee regrouped in December and committed to accelerate landscape activities in light of the completed Fence project. We agreed to:

a. Consider planting rye grass along Great Oaks Drive, the entrance of Liberty Walk, and Conchos Valley where the grass was torn up during Fence construction. We’re working on short and long-term solutions.

b. Meet at least once per month.

c. Compile ideas for a Landscape Master Plan and complete the report. The Master Plan will cover 5-10 years and would be implemented in phases. The committee is discussing numerous ideas to compliment the appearance of all areas in Cat Hollow.

Call Before You Dig!

One of the beauties of our neighborhood is that the utilities are underground and out of site. These buried utilities can be damaged if you dig a hole in the wrong place. If your home project involves any digging, call 1-800-DIG-TESS or 1-800-344-8377. Dig-TESS Center is a Damage Prevention Service to help anyone digging in Texas to identify buried utilities before digging. The service is free! It takes about two days for a mark out so make sure to call at least two working days prior to excavation. Respect the Marks and dig with CARE! There have been utility related accidents in the neighborhood area.
