Lamorinda winegrowing history dates back to the 1884 when settlers planted the first wine grape vineyards in Lamorinda area. The newly designated Lamorinda aVa, the first in our county, enjoys San Francisco fog, has moderate climate, unique terrain, warm days and cool nights, clay loam soils and hilly topography, which makes it perfect for growing wine grapes. Many Lamorinda homeowners have planted vineyards as a bay friendly landscape using limited amount of water and an erosion control method that works well on hillsides. any wine that is produced using at least 85% Lamorinda grapes and 100% from within California, can proudly wear the Lamorinda wine designation. Today, Lamorinda is the home to more than 5 micro wineries. These wineries, due to their limited sizes, invite family, friends and locals to experience the joy & passion of growing and making of the wine. by appointment, the wineries welcome the local community to try the wines grown in the area. The diversity of microclimates and soils makes possible the successful growing of many wine-grape varieties from Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petite Sirah to fruity and floral chardonnay and Sauvignon blanc. Please visit www.lamorindawinegrowers.com for wineries and and tasting room information.
