At Tarbet turn left onto the A83, continue past the turning for Dunoon and after passing the war memorial Glaschoine is the last house before the head of Loch Fyne, the entrance to which is at the end of the roadside drystone wall. Situation Glaschoine is set in a beautiful position, in enclosed grounds of about an acre just before the head of Loch Fyne, and offers stunning views down the longest sea loch in Scotland. Loch Fyne is famous worldwide, partly due to the Loch Fyne Restaurant and Oyster Bar which utilises the tidal waters of the sea loch to provide a sustainable supply of fresh fish and shellfish and which is only a further mile round the loch from Glaschoine. Also, within close proximity is the well-established and highly popular Fyne Ales brewery and tap room which is located in Glen Fyne at the head of Loch Fyne. Inveraray is approximately 10 miles from Glaschoine and is a charming 18th century town offering a variety of specialist shops, medical surgery, primary school, bank and post office. Tourist attractions include the famous Inveraray Castle, home to the Dukes of Argyll, and the forbidding Inveraray Jail. Glasgow is about 53 miles to the south east of Glaschoine and is one of Europe’s finest cities. It has a wealth of restaurants and the finest shopping facilities in Scotland. Some of Britain’s most spectacular scenery is found in this area, making Glaschoine an ideal base for the outdoors enthusiast. There is superb hill walking and climbing in the area with the “Rest and be Thankful” pass leading up through the high hills of Arrochar which include four Munros (mountains over 3000 ft). There are a number of celebrated gardens in the area, with the Ardkinglas woodland garden being of particular note. The location is also renowned for field sports including fishing and stalking. Description Glaschoine is a substantial detached house, located just before the head of Loch Fyne. It formerly belonged to Ardkinglas Estate and was tenanted for many years prior to 2003, when the current owners acquired it. Local tradition has it that the house was once an early manse, surrounded by glebe lands. The north facing wing was originally a separate barn, which was partly converted into a “summer house” in the 1920s. The family who lived in Glaschoine would vacate the main house to let it for the summer and move into the barn. After buying the house, the current owners painstakingly refurbished it over the next four years, working with respect for the old building and designing the internal layout to take full advantage of the stunning open views over the water. Some internal walls were removed to open up the space and some windows were enlarged and new openings made to increase the flow of natural light. The garden, which extends to about an acre, was professionally redesigned to set off the house. Beautiful flower borders were created, along with a productive kitchen garden behind the house. Argyll covers the southwestern islands and western peninsulas of Scotland. One of Ayrshire’s primary attractions is “Burns Country,” because the area was the poet Robert Burns’s birthplace as well as his predominant stomping grounds for most of his life. But Ayrshire also offers golfers some of the best links courses in the world. If you take the train from Glasgow to Ayr, the main town of Ayrshire, you can see one course after another in the sandy dunes along the shoreline. Argyll, which means the “coast of the Gaels,” encompasses islands such as Bute and Arran as well as the more remote Kintyre Peninsula. Kintyre is so sufficiently isolated that ex-Beatle Paul McCartney has long owned a ranch there where he and his family can retreat from prying eyes. This plan is non-statutory, and all actions listed are undertaken on a voluntary basis. This biosecurity plan was developed in partnership with local stakeholders between November 2019 and April 2020. The Loch Fyne Biosecurity Plan covers the areas from the head of the loch near Cairndow, out to a seaward boundary loosely defined by a line from Ardlamont point in the east to Skipness point in the west. Principle Contractor Marine Scotland appointed Sarah Brown of C2W Consulting to deliver the community and stakeholder led biosecurity plan. 2 REPORTING What to do if you think you’ve seen Didemnum vexillum, the carpet sea-squirt 1. Don’t IGNORE IT! 2. Note the location, preferably using GPS, and take photographs of the colony if possible and safe to do so. Take photos both zoomed in and of the entire colony. 3. Contact Marine Scotland or CALL Scotland’s Environmental and Rural Services (SEARS) Helpline on 0845 230 2050. They will pass your report and photos onto Marine Scotland who will be able to respond quickly. 4. Adopt the precautionary approach and assume that it is D. vexillum until confirmed otherwise and follow best practice by not moving any material, stock or boats etc. from the site. 3 Executive Summary Didemnum vexillum, the invasive, non-native carpet sea squirt, has been found in three locations in Scotland, most recent of these is Loch Fyne in Argyll and Bute.

Rock Slope Failures (RSFs) comprise large landslips, rockslides and slope deformations affecting square kilometres of hillsides and penetrating 100s of metres deep. They occurred around or soon after deglaciation periods and were first recognised and mapped by C T Clough in the 1890s. However following David’s recent research 1000 or so have been identified in the Highlands, the greatest concentration being in our area of the Arrochar Hills. RSFs help to explain the shaping, enlargement or destruction of these mountain ridges, corries and glens.

The presence of a planning permission in principle at the head of the loch – 09/00385/OUT and to include that in the spatial strategy/ housing/ landscape is a missed opportunity and should be rectified.
