New York, NY – 12 October 2018 – Peter Bjorn and John dropped another new song today – “Wrapped Around The Axle” – as the Swedish trio gears up for the October 19th release of their eighth LP Darker Days via INGRID. Another song attributed to Bjorn whose approach to the album’s central theme of darkness was to take on relationship issues. While the first Bjorn song “Gut Feeling” directly dealt with the band’s internal struggles after releasing 2016’s aptly titled Breakin’ Point, “Wrapped Around The Axle” is about some friends navigating a split. “I got the idea for ‘Wrapped Around the Axle’ when two friends of mine were having problems in their relationship. I knew them both for many years, so it was very emotional for me too. I think both of them wanted it to work, but the more they tried they realized they were being dragged deeper and deeper into something ever darker. It made me think that sometimes an honorable walkover is the only alternative; or to quote the Swedish author Klas Östergren: ‘I’m leaving the table, I’m out of the game.’ ‘Wrapped Around the Axle’ is a metaphor for when your sleeve is being caught up in a spinning shaft, and you realize the only way you’re going to get out of this situation is to lose the shirt. Sometimes the lyrics are the most important part of a song. I think this is the case with ‘Wrapped Around the Axle.’ But if I have to say something about the music, it’s based around 70’s inspired riff, with a Simon and Garfunkel-esque melody accompanied by a Jack White-ish beat.” – Björn Yttling “Wrapped Around The Axle” is the fourth new song to be released ahead of Darker Days, following the September 21st release of “One For The Team” (Peter), “Gut Feeling,” and “Every Other Night” (John). Upon release “Gut Feeling” was tapped for Spotify’s “New Music Friday” where it has since streamed more than 300K times and this past Monday Billboard premiered the lyric video for “Gut Feeling” – watch HERE, while lyric videos for “One For The Team” and “Every Other Night” were released yesterday. Following the first three singles, the band also released the FIRST EVER 3-In-1 music video on October 1st. The clip features the official music video for each of the singles and the viewer can select which video to watch by choosing P, B or J on their keyboard. You can check this out again HERE. All three videos were directed by the Shout Out Louds’ Ted Malmros who direct the video for Peter Bjorn and John’s “Young Folks” as well as videos for his own band, First Aid Kit and Lykke Li. Now with one week to go, Peter Bjorn and John are excited to be releasing their eighth full-length album as they near their 20th anniversary together. They’ve enjoyed a lot of successes over their two-decade long career with singles such “Second Chance,” “It Don’t Move Me” and of course “Young Folks.” They’re also looking forward to touring this winter in the US. The short headline trek will kick off in Boston on November 29th and has them on the road in the US and Canada through mid-December.
