GPS Music Showcase 2013 Wednesday 8th May 2013 at 7:00 pm presented at Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University hosted by BRISBANE STATE HIGH SCHOOL proud host of the 2013 GPS Music Showcase It gives BSHS great pleasure to host this activity this year. Thank you to all audience members, parents, headmasters, teachers, conductors and students who recognise and Brisbane State High School celebrate the gifted musicians performing this evening. Thank you for valuing the contribution that music makes to our schools and lives and for acknowledging the high standard which can be achieved in the collaborative and non-competitive GPS Music Showcase event. She holds Piccolo Danica Edgar BSHS Trumpet 1 Max Beech BBC a Masters in Music Studies from the University of Queensland and in 2004 the Jennifer Yu BSHS University of Queensland awarded her the Hugh Brandon Prize for Conducting. She is an instrumental music teacher with the Queensland Department of Clarinet 1 Michael Jeon BGS Trombone 1 Steven Kim BGS Education, Training & Employment, teaching string instruments in three high Lily Lee BSHS Timothy Cousins TSS schools and one primary school. In two of her high schools, Meg works as a lower Damon Reardon GT Trombone 2 Jack Biddle BBC string specialist. Maxwell Tait TGS Oliver Paxton BSHS Clarinet 2 Stuart Caulton BBC Trombone 3 William Derrington GT Meg is an experienced conductor of school string orchestras and symphony Zachary Cassard BBC Nathan Renner TSS orchestras. Her students regularly perform in school concerts, competitions and various combined schools’ Michael Ooi BGS events. Meg has worked as a string orchestra conductor at the Young Conservatorium, and rehearses a Katy Hou BSHS Percussion Anthony Jacobsen BBC wide range of musical genres as conductor of the Creative Generation Symphony Orchestra. He Alto Saxophone 1 Rudi Scarpa GT has performed with the Central Band of the Royal Australian Air Force, Angus Pegler TGS the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, the Australian Brass Choir and as a freelance Andrew Park TGS musician for the theatre, opera, cabaret and recording studio. Dr Hultgren is Alto Saxophone 2 Eddie Zhou BBC currently Head of Open Conservatorium at the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith Reuben Madden BBC University. Tenor Saxophone 1 Benjamin Boehm IGS Dr Hultgren’s conducting credits include the direction of musicals, operettas, studio Tenor Saxophone 2 William Kowalski GT recordings for radio, television and disc, and the concert stage. In his present position he conducts the Queensland Conservatorium Wind Orchestra, Queensland Conservatorium’s premiere wind group as well as Baritone Saxophone Marcus Pirrone BBC lecturing in conducting and instrumental music education at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He is in constant demand as a guest conductor and clinician throughout the Asian Pacific region. French Horn 1 Joseph Colbrook BBC Leadership in the development of conductors has been at the forefront of Dr Hultgren’s professional French Horn 2 Christian Fisalli TSS pursuits for almost twenty years. He is a founding member of the Australian Band and Orchestra Directors’ French Horn 3 Genevieve Forshaw BSHS Association and is a member of the World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles. In 1998 he French Horn 4 Ben Dissanayake BBC became the recipient of the Citation of Excellence, the Australian Band & Orchestra Directors’ Association’s highest honour. He is also the recipient of the 2005 Midwest Clinic International Award, in recognition of his international contributions to music education, which was presented by the Board of Directors of the Midwest Clinic.
