The venerated im- age under this Christological title refers to what Kowalska's diary describes as "'s loving mercy" towards all people, especially for sinners.[2] Kowalska was granted the title "Secretary of Mercy" by the Holy See in the Jubilee Year of 2000. Kowalska reported a number of apparitions during religious which she wrote in her diary, later published as the book Diary: Divine Mercy in My . The two main themes of the devotion are to trust in Christ's endless goodness, and to show mercy to others acting as a conduit for God's love towards them.[

Pope John Paul II, a native of Poland, had great affinity towards this devotion and authorized it in the Liturgical Calendar of the Roman Catholic Church. The liturgical Feast of the Divine Mercy is celebrated on the first Sunday after Easter. Worshippers of the Divine Mercy commemorate the Hour of Mercy (3 PM), which according to Kowalska's diary is the time of the death of Jesus. Another very popular form of the devotion is the Chaplet of the Divine Mercy to be prayed using a .

Begin with the Sign of the Cross, then pray one Our Father, one Hail Mary and The Apostles Creed. On the Our Father beads pray: “Eternal Father, I offer You the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Your dearly beloved Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world.” On the Hail Mary beads pray: “For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world.” Use the above to continue through all five decades of the Rosary. Complete the Chaplet by praying 3 times: “Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, have mercy on us and on the whole world.” Amen.

Easter Eggs, Easter Bunny, Easter Baskets & Candy These at first glance, may be a little harder to recognize as Christian symbols. As pagan people were converted to the Catholic faith, the priests & missionaries often used the pagan symbols to explain the truths of the Catholic faith, and help ease their transition from pagan cultural practices to Catholicism. The bunny & the egg go back to ancient times & the Goddess of Spring, Eastre. This pagan festival was celebrated with a spirit of renewal & rebirth. The rabbit represented the arrival of spring and the fertility of the season. The pagan tradition held that the egg was a symbol of new life. There also is an interesting story about the egg in the early church concerning Mary Adult’s Offering… $ 2,845.00 Magdalene. TOTAL…. $ 3,895.00 Miraculously, the egg turned red. It is because of this tradition that the Orthodox Christians exchange red eggs at Easter; and it isn’t had to see how the custom of dying eggs came to be part

of the Easter celebration. Also … in the early church, people were not aable to eat eggs, dairy & meat during Lent. On Holy Saturday, eggs were brought to church in baskets to be blessed with holy water, and there was actually a special prayer said over them. The eggs were not to be eaten until after the Easter morning Mass. Over time, children brought their own baskets to be blessed. If we took more time in preparing for the coming of Jesus than we do for the coming of the Easter bunny, how would our hearts and lives be changed. It is sad to see, in the world today, how a lack of understanding as to the meaning of these symbols can draw our attention away from the real meaning of our Catholic Easter celebrations.
