Forest and Brisbane Lions kick off partnership

Forest Lions under 11s player, Jarrod Hyles, was recently on hand at the Gabba when our club formalised a partnership with the Brisbane Lions AFL club.

Our club will now be part of the Brisbane Lions “adopt a club” program. This program, a first for Brisbane outside of their home state, will give the club coaching, sponsorship and fundraising benefits. The Forest Lions have also been given an “adopted player”, full back and vice captain, Daniel Merrett.

“we really feel the Forest Lions are now in a great position to grow and prosper in the Forest area”

“Putting the money we hope to gain through the partnership with Brisbane into pro- grams such as these means we will continue to be at the forefront of AFL skill devel- opment in Sydney and in doing so expose kids to a game that is fun, safe and healthy,” says Krause.

This partnership between the multi premiership winning Brisbane Lions and Forest comes on the 40th anniversary of the Belrose based club’s formation.

The two clubs are working on a number of initiatives in the anniversary year and into 2010, such as changing Forest’s playing uniform to that of the Brisbane Lions and a meeting later in the year for all the Forest players to meet the Brisbane team. The Forest Lions are also playing an instrumental role in the formation of a Brisbane Li- ons supporter group in NSW, with help of a one- eyed Brisbane supporter from St Ives, Mike Wilson.
