>> Expansion teams allocated to minimise travel for QLD and WA teams ( and ) and based on an assessment of the strength of the expansion lists.

>> Teams play all other teams in their own conference and two teams from the opposite conference.

>> Cross-conference determined by playing one top four and one bottom four team from the opposite conference, whereby the fourth-ranked team are considered to be in the top four and the bottom four.
