Afterwards, it was only mentioned as a member of Cossidae (Daniel 1955; Schoorl 1990; Yakovlev 2004), and only on the basis of the detailed original description. After a thorough analysis of Koshantschikov's description, Vladimir V. Dubatolov (Novosibirsk, Russia) assumed that the taxon could belong to Brachodidae. The same assumption was admitted by Axel Kallies (Australia). My study of the type material shows that the taxon does in fact belong to Brachodidae and that it is conspecific with Brachodes appendiculata (Esper, 1783), a species known from South and Central Europe, southern Urals, northern Kazakhstan, and southern Siberia (Zagulyaev 1978). Acknowledgements I am grateful to S. Yu. Sinev (St. Petersburg) for his help during my work with the type material of the Zoological Institute, Russian Academy of Sciences, to V. V. • Evergestis Alborivulalis (Eversmann, 1843) in the Palaearctic (Lepidoptera: Crambidae, Evergestinae)
Natura Somogyiensis 23 211-220 Ka pos vár, 2013 Disjunct distribution of Evergestis alborivulalis (Eversmann, 1843) in the Palaearctic (Lepidoptera: Crambidae, Evergestinae) FAZEKAS IMRE Regiograf Institute, Majális tér 17/A, H-300 Komló, Hungary, e-mail: [email protected] FAZEKAS , I.: Disjunct distribution of Evergestis alborivulalis (Eversmann, 1843) in the Palaearctic. Abstract: Data on the geographical distribution of Evergestis alborivulalis (Eversmann, 1843) in Palaearctic are given, with maps. Biological data and habitats of the species are presented. Structure of genitalia and morphological characteristic of wings are illustrated in colour. With 13 figures. Keywords: Lepidoptera, Crambidae, Evergestis alborivulalis, bionomics, distribution, Palaearctic. Introduction The distribution patterns and life cycle of Evergestis alborivulalis have been of long- standing interest to researchers. The species was originally described from Russian material from the Ural region (EVERSMANN 1843). Systematically, E. alborivulalis belongs to the order Lepidoptera, family Crambidae, subfamily Evergestinae. There is very little information about the geographical range and bionomics of this species. Nobody has ever correlated and mapped distributional information already published in different works. Here, a map of its distribution in Eurasia is shown. Even though it is inevitably sketchy, it demonstrates the highly localised occurrence of E. alborivulalis. Until now, there has been no information about the larva and food plant, and little was known about the habitat preferences. In the last few years, intensive and systematic surveys in Hungary have been made by the author. Our database can be found in text. Detailed information can now be given about the habitat in Hungary. Natura 2000 habi- tat types of priority interest for the conservation of this moth have been selected.

Nota lepid. 28 (1): 17-23 17 ©Societas Europaea Lepidopterologica; download unter http://www.biodiversitylibrary.org/ und www.zobodat.at Revision of Evergestis anartalis (Staudinger, 1892) comb. rev. from Central Asia (Pyraloidea: Crambidae: Evergestinae) Matthias Nuss Museum für Tierkunde, Königsbrücker Landstr. 159, D-01109 Dresden, e-mail: [email protected] Abstract. The nomenclature of Evergestis anartalis (Staudinger, 1892) comb, rev., a species which has been described three times and of which the names have been placed in three different subfamilies of Crambidae, is investigated. The generic name Maelinoptera Staudinger, 1893 syn. n. is revised as a junior subjective synonym of Evergestis Hübner, 1825 and the type-species of this monotypic genus, Hercyna anartalis Staudinger, 1892, is transferred to Evergestis. Evergestis heliacalis Zerny, 1914 syn. n. and Noctuelia anartalis Hampson, 1918 syn. n., are considered as junior subjective synonyms of Evergestis anartalis (Staudinger, 1892) (Hercyna). Evergestis anartalis Hampson, 1918 (Noctuelia) therefore becomes a junior secondary homonym of Evergestis anartalis (Staudinger, 1892) (Hercyna). Lectotypes of Hercyna anartalis Staudinger, 1892 and Evergestis heliacalis Zerny, 1914 are designated. Evergestis anartalis (Staudinger, 1892) is redescribed; adults, male and female genitalia are illustrated. According to the specimens investigated, it is assumed that Evergestis anartalis is endemic to sub-alpine and alpine altitudes in Central Asia. Key words. Evergestis anartalis, taxonomic revision. Central Asia, alpine altitudes, endemic species. Introduction After Staudinger (1892: pi. 3 fig. 17) already figured Hercyna anartalis, he provided the description of this species a year later and described the genus Maelinoptera to include Hercyna anartalis only (Staudinger 1893: 72-73).

COCKERELL The present list of new forms described from Colorado is in continu ation of that given in the University of Colorado Studi es, Vol. IX, May, 1912, pp. 75-89 . Every species described as new, the descrip tion based wholly or in part on Colorado specimens, is included. For the year 1914, it has seemed best to include everything in the volumes of periodicals bearing that date, although some of the last numbers were not actually issued until early in 1915. The abbreviations are the same as those of the former list; t. 1.= type locality, while extinct species are marked t. The size of the list is surprising, and shows the richness of Colorado in new materials, as well as the activity of workers.

Mísí se zde druhy z dalekého severu (prvky boreální) s druhy původem z horských oblastí Alp a Karpat. Navíc se zde setkáváme s glaciálními relikty, z nichž některé reprezentují druhy endemické. Z řeteln ě odlišné je pak faunistické spektrum v nejvyšším sudetském poho ří v Krkonoších. Unikátní druhová kompozice je v rámci jednotlivých sudetských poho ří dána nejen charakteristickou geografickou polohu, geomorfologií a horninovým složením jednotlivých poho ří, nasnad ě je také vliv borovice kle če ( Pinus mugo ) v období postglaciálního formování fauny alpínských bezlesí Vysokých Sudet. Podobnost druhového spektra motýl ů uvedených alpínských bezlesí byla v prvním kroku identifikována metodami shlukových analýz. Dále jsem použila model SAR (= Species- Area Relationship) testující závislost po čtu druh ů ( S) na velikosti plochy ( A), IFM (=Incidence Function Model) specifikující míru izolovanosti jednotlivých ploch a GLM (=General Linear Model) testující významnost vybraných faktor ů prost ředí, tj. plochy alpínského bezlesí, vzdálenosti a konektivity. Výsledky analýz poukazují na významný vliv velikosti plochy i izolovanosti na druhovou diverzitu motýl ů.

The box tree moth, Cydalima perspectalis (Walker, 1859) comb. n., is native to India, China, Korea, Japan and the Rus- sian Far East. Its larvae are a serious pest of different species of Buxus. Recently, C. perspectalis was introduced into Europe and first recorded from Germany in 2006. This species has been placed in various spilomeline genera including Palpita Hübner, 1808, Diaphania Hübner, 1818, Glyphodes Guenée, 1854 and the monotypic Neoglyphodes Streltzov, 2008. In order to solve this nomen- clatural confusion and to find a reasonable and verifiable generic placement for the box tree moth, the morphology of the above mentioned and some additional spilomeline taxa was investigated and their phylogeny analysed. The results show that C. perspec- talis belongs to a monophylum that includes three of the genera in which it was previously placed: Glyphodes, Diaphania and Pal- pita. Within this monophylum, it is closely related to the Asian Cydalima Lederer, 1863. As a result of this analysis, Sisyrophora Lederer, 1863 syn. rev. and Neoglyphodes Streltzov, 2008 syn.

Cornifrons ulceratalis, Crambidae, moth, wind-borne migration, pied piper phenomenon, north-western Mediterranean Abstract. On October 2006, during an episode of abnormally warm weather, the African moth Cornifrons ulceratalis (Lederer, 1858) was captured simultaneously for the first time in several sites in north-eastern Spain, the Balearic Islands and southern France. A deep depression situated over the Atlantic at the time gave rise to warm south-westerly winds, accompanied by suspended dust, that blew towards the north-western Mediterranean Basin. Back trajectories of air masses at two different altitudinal levels indicate that the moths most probably originated from an area located in Morocco and northern Algeria, where C. ulceratalis can be extremely abundant. With winter approaching, this invasion of a typically non-migratory species into the north-western Mediterra- nean Basin provides a good example of the so-called “pied piper” phenomenon, by which wind-borne insects may be carried into areas unfavourable for survival or reproduction.
