MALIBU BEACH - DAY * INSERT: Malibu, California 1963 In the background we hear the instrumental music of The Ventures, a famous 1960’s Surf Guitar group, playing their famous song, Pipeline, as we watch Surfers ride in the waves. The Beach is populated with kids in their early twenties, pretty girls in 60’s style bikinis mixing with studly young surfer dudes with short hair, like it’s mating season. CLOSE ON: A handsome blonde surfer (22), a young Tab Hunter type, is riding in a big wave. He shoots the barrel and shreds it! This is ROD BIGMAN, the 1960’s surfing champ! * Rod exits the ocean, surfboard in hand, looking like every young girl’s Dream, as a sexy young blonde Sandra Dee/Gidget look-alike in a tiny 1960’s style bikini runs up to greet * him. This is KAREN SLATER, the “hottest” girl on the beach! Rod places his Surfboard in the sand and takes Karen’s hand as they begin to stroll along the beach. After walking a bit, Rod pauses and grins at Karen, displaying his perfect white teeth. Karen looks up at Rod lovingly and breaks into song, singing Walking In The Sand, the famous 60’s hit song by the all Girl Group, The Shangri-Las. • Rawding, David 1 Life Within the Trap the Fall After the Summer of 2010
Rawding, David 1 Life Within the Trap The Fall After the Summer of 2010 He figured if someone was to call him by a name at this very moment that the only proper name would be The Escapee. He'd discovered a while back how to rig his door so it wouldn't lock fully, yet there was almost no likelihood that he could escape the institution without help. He could, however, wander the halls and pass the other locked rooms. The Escapee intended to be quick; there were risks. He waited until he was sure the night shift had changed and then took off running. As he sprinted down the hall, his bare feet made a wet sound each time they slapped against the cold floor. The hard part was getting access to the bastard's room. The employees of the institution used these plastic key cards to lock away the unfortunates. He'd tried to imitate these devices, testing bits of metal against the locks, which ended in a series of failures. The Escapee tore down the hall praying that whoever was on duty wasn't watching him through the cameras. He flattened himself against the wall to get a load of the situation around the corner. The night staffer was a thin man with a blonde mustache and a weak chin. The sound of his thumbs punching the plastic keys of his cell phone made a serious racket; but, then again, the only sounds competing were a steady rush of air from the ducts and The Escapee's muffled heart.

At 25, she ditched her safe tax attorney career at a Houston law firm to follow her dream, finding a job in real estate law in Nicaragua. It didn't take her long to fall for surfing, but it did take a minute to get the hang of it. “Surfing is one of the hardest sports in the world! The waves are always changing, there are a lot of conditions outside of your control," Blaylock says. "It took me like a year to stand up on my board. I don’t know that I had natural talent, but I had dedication, perseverance, and persistence.” That persistence paid off, and within two years Blaylock became Nicaragua’s female surf champion, a title she held onto for six years. The win gave her confidence to pursue her next dream: founding the country’s first all-female surf school for women, Chicabrava. Chicabrava now hosts all-female surf camps, and does outreach in the community. “I do think I've made a difference for girls in Nicaragua, seeing that women can do the things that guys can do.” For Ashley surfing is more than just a sport, “Surfing teaches you to be fierce because you face your fears head on.

5-7 AGE CATEGORY 5-7 Age Age 5-7 Category Wicked Young Writer Awards 2019 The Journey By Marco Maguregi-Fleming Boom crash bang. I was kept awake by the sound of bombs crashing onto the ground. Unexpectedly, my mother called me to come. Before I knew it, my father lifted me into a half-dilapidated boat. The engine rumbled violently as I was thrown across to the other side of the boat. Before the boat set off, my mother whispered to me, “Don’t be scared, you will be taken to the UK where there is no war,” and she kissed me sweetly. My father hunkered down beside me and said, “Keep this safe, Aunty Leila is waiting for you in Cornwall,” as he passed me his special stone. From what they said, I knew my parents were staying. I waved until they were tiny ants in the horizon. Hours passed, and I grew hungry. I pleaded with the man to give me something to eat but he refused and left me nothing but crumbs. The waves bashed against the boat relentlessly, but I was not scared, for I had my father’s special stone, which gave me hope and courage. The clouds turned black, as if they were telling me not to go that way and the boat rocked about abruptly. The water splashed up into the boat, soaking me to the skin as we approached a very small island. The skinny, pale man set up camp and ate dinner. I had to watch as he greedily gobbled up his food.
