Highly RecommendBy JaimChiniquy reads like a Dickens novel. His writing is careful, intelligent, honest, and expressive but mostlya sense of his love of God is on every page. A man who is spiritually trapped/tortured because as dedicated lover of God from his childhood throughout his Catholic education he feels as an orphan because the Word of God, the Bible, is forbidden to read. Beautiful and tender bonding highlights of his life are captured as he describes his early memories of reading theBible with his mother. The local priest continually threatens to take the Bible from the family.(I had no idea Catholics were forbidden to read the Bible). The description of this early experienceand opening to God remains with him throughout his life as does the soulic torture of realizinghis mentors and benefactors only teach Paganism in a shroud of fake Christianity. The author's writing is warm, honest, and sincere. Very refreshing. I couldn't help but think ofthe style of Dickens many times as I read. This book helped clarify for me a large piece of the corruption that exists on a Global level. In "connecting the dots" one may also want to see Leuren Moret's interview with Alfred Webre- June 2016.She Documents how Castro is of Papal lineage and Papal lineage is in actuality Iranian.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. An honest heart felt story that I felt to be very touchingBy CameronWow, what an honest heart felt story from a man who truly had a heart after God, but he followed after men in error for years, submitting to those in authority who always kept him away from his love for God's written word. They told him there was no private interpretation of God's word allowed, and that if he persisted to go after God's written promises, illuminated in the Light of The Holy Spirit that he'd be condemned as a heretic and a eternity of suffering. I was truly shocked by all this man saw and yet so blessed to see that He who began the good work in him was able to complete it.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. get this!By BarbVinvaluable! extraordinary history! This book is abridged from the 1886 edition published in London. It is the page turning autobiography of one Charles Chiniquy who was born in Quebec and raised as a Roman Catholic. He became a priest and served as such for 25 or so years. Everywhere he served (various parishes, a hospital, a monastary, Canada, U.S., etc...) he found SIGNIFICANT corruption in Romanism. Ninety plus percent of the priests and bishops were constantly drunk, sleeping with women, involved in sexual affairs with their own close relatives, involved in theft, simony, and all sorts of evil behaviors. Some even murdered others. Chiniquy fought with these bishops and others over the purity of the "church" until eventually he figured out that the Roman Catholic church was not the church of Jesus Christ. At that point, he resigned with most of his congregation (of thousands) from Romanism to form their own independent church. Later, they joined the Presbyterians. In the 1850s, Chiniquy hired Abraham Lincoln to defend him against some corrupt priests and bishops. Lincoln helped him win the day twice. The book claims to prove that the Jesuits were behind the initiation of the U.S. Civil War and Lincoln's assasination. After reading Chiniquy's work, even skeptics may believe that he is probably correct about this or at the very least that they (the Jesuits) contributed significantly to the Civil War and to Lincoln's demise. Protestants and Catholics alike should read this work. It is excellent. About the AuthorCharles P. Chiniquy (1809–1899) was a Canadian Catholic priest who left the Catholic Church and became a Protestant. He is known for his writings and sermons against the Roman Catholic Church. In the period between 1885 and 1899 he was the focus of a great deal of discussion in the United States of America. During the 1880s his conspiracy theories included the claim to have exposed the Jesuits as the assassins of President Abraham Lincoln, and that, if unchecked, the Jesuits could eventually politically rule the United States. Chiniquy was born in 1809 in the village of Kamouraska, Quebec. He lost his father at an early age and was adopted by his uncle. As a young man, Chiniquy studied to become a Catholic priest at the Petit Seminaire (Little Seminary) in Nicolet, Quebec. He was ordained a Catholic priest in 1833. After his ordination, he served his Church in Quebec and later emigrated to Illinois. During the 1840s, he led a very successful campaign throughout Quebec against alcohol and drunkenness. Later, Chiniquy claimed that he was falsely accused by his superiors (and that Abraham Lincoln had come to his rescue), that the American Civil War was a plot against the United States of America by the Vatican, and that the Vatican was behind the Confederate cause, the death of President Lincoln and that Lincoln's assassins were faithful Roman Catholics ultimately serving Pope Pius IX. After leaving the Catholic Church, Chiniquy dedicated his life to trying to win his fellow French Canadians, as well as others, from Catholicism to the Protestant faith. He wrote a number of books and tracts pointing out the errors in the faith and practises of the Roman Catholic Church. His two most influential works are “Fifty Years in The Church of Rome” and “The Priest, The Woman and The Confessional.” These books raised concerns in the United States about the Catholic Church.
