Considering this fact, the material of this present study was collected in Aslıhan Village in Uzunköprü, Edirne between September 2007 and June 2009 using a ultraviolet and mercury vapoured Robinson type trap including a 160 W halogen lamp as the light source. Collected specimens were killed in ethyl asetate bottles and transferred to laboratory for preparations. The specimens in the collected material were identified at species level. The identifications also revealed 13 species from 8 subfamilies. Ichneumonidae species are Temelucha decorata (Gravenhorst, 1829) (Cremastinae); Absyrtus vernalis Bauer, 1961 (Ctenopelmatinae); Ophion obscuratus Fabricius, 1798, O. ocellaris Ulbricht, 1926, O. mocsaryi Brauns, 1889, O. parvulus Kriechbaumer, 1879 (Ophioninae) and Netelia (Netelia) testacea (Gravenhorst, 1829) (Tryphoninae). The identifications also revealed 7 species from 4 subfamilies of Ichneumonidae. The Braconidae species are Adelius (Adelius) erythronotus (Förster, 1851) (Adeliinae); Blacus (Ganychorus) ruficornis (Nees, 1811) (Blacinae); Bracon (Glabrobracon) obscurator Nees, 1811 (Braconinae); Charmon extensor (Linnaeus, 1758) (Charmontinae); Meteorus ictericus (Nees, 1811) and M. rubens (Nees, 1811) (Euphorinae); Homolobus (Apatia) truncator (Say, 1829) (Homolobinae); Macrocentrus collaris (Spinola, 1808), M. pallipes (Nees, 1811) (Macrocentrinae); Aleiodes (Aleiodes) bicolor (Spinola, 1808), A. (A.) circumscriptus (Nees, 1834), A. (A.) dimidiatus (Spinola, 1808) and A. (A.) ductor (Thunberg, 1824) (Rogadinae). The identifications also revealed 11 species from 3 subfamilies of Geometridae. These species are Apochima flabellaria (Heeger, 1838), Dasycorsa modesta (Staudinger, 1879), Eilicrinia cordiaria (Hübner, 1790), Nychiodes waltheri Wagner, 1919 (Ennominae); Chlorissa cloraria (Hübner, 1813) (Geometrinae); Idaea albitorquata iii (Püngeler, 1909), I. degeneraria (Hübner, 1799), I. ochrata (Scopoli, 1763), I. rusticata (Denis-Schiffermüller, 1775), Scopula flaccidaria (Zeller, 1852) and S. imitaria (Hübner, 1799) (Sterrhinae). Despite the proximity of Sredna Gora Mountains to Sofia, the insect assemblages of this region are poorly studied. As a result of two studies carried out as a part of an Environmental Impact Assessment in the Natura 2000 Protected Areas: Sredna Gora and Popintsi, a rich diversity of insects was discovered, with 107 saproxylic and epigeobiont Coleoptera species and 355 Lepidoptera species recorded. This research was conducted during a short one-season field study in the surrounding areas of the town of Panagyurishte and Oborishte Village. Special attention was paid to protected species and their conservation status. Of the Coleoptera recorded, 22 species were of conservation significance. Forty-five Lepidoptera species of conservation importance were also recorded. KEY WORDS.WORDS. • Nuovi Dati Sulla Macrolepidotterofauna Dell'italia
Entomologica, Bari, 39 (2005): 183-209 PAOLO PARENZAN1 - LUIGI SANNINO2 - STEFANO SCALERCIO3 - ANDREA SCIARRETTA4 Nuovi dati sulla Macrolepidotterofauna dell’Italia meridionale (Lepidoptera)* ABSTRACT NEW RECORDS ON THE MACROLEPIDOPTERA OF SOUTHERN ITALY (LEPIDOPTERA) In this paper 135 species have been recognised. Seven species (Dahlica triquetrella (Hübner, 1813), Xanthorhoe designata (Hufnagel, 1767), Eupithecia inturbata (Hübner, 1817), Plusia festucae (Linnaeus, 1758), Calamia tridens (Hufnagel, 1766), Polymixis polymita (Linnaeus, 1761), Agrotis syricola Berio, 1936) are new for Southern Italy, 15 taxa were the first time recorded in Puglia, 87 in Campania, 10 in Basilicata and 20 in Calabria. The great amount of faunistic news underlines the high species richness of Southern Italy, a large amount of which is to date unknown. Key Words: Macrolepidoptera, faunistic reports, Southern Italy. • Comparative Morphology of the Male Genitalia in Lepidoptera
COMPARATIVE MORPHOLOGY OF THE MALE GENITALIA IN LEPIDOPTERA. By DEV RAJ MEHTA, M. Sc.~ Ph. D. Introduction 197 Historical Review 199 Technique. 201 N ontenclature 201 Function • 205 Comparative Morphology 206 Conclusions in Phylogeny 257 Summary 261 Literature 1 262 INTRODUCTION. In the domains of both Morphology and Taxonomy the study' of Insect genitalia has evoked considerable interest during the past half century. Zander (1900, 1901, 1903) suggested a common structural plan for the genitalia in various orders of insects. This work stimulated further research and his conclusions were amplified by Crampton (1920) who homologized the different parts in the genitalia of Hymenoptera, Mecoptera, Neuroptera, Diptera, Trichoptera Lepidoptera, Hemiptera and Strepsiptera with those of more generalized insects like the Ephe meroptera and Thysanura. During this time the use of genitalic charac ters for taxonomic purposes was also realized particularly in cases where the other imaginal characters had failed to serve. In this con nection may be mentioned the work of Buchanan White (1876), Gosse (1883), Bethune Baker (1914), Pierce (1909, 1914, 1922) and others. Also, a comparative account of the genitalia, as a basis for the phylo genetic study of different insect orders, was employed by Walker (1919), Sharp and Muir (1912), Singh-Pruthi (1925) and Cole (1927), in Orthop tera, Coleoptera, Hemiptera and the Diptera respectively. It is sur prising, work of this nature having been found so useful in these groups, that an important order like the Lepidoptera should have escaped careful analysis at the hands of the morphologists.

Status of UK priority species: relative abundance Technical background document, 2020 NB this paper should be read together with 4b Status of UK Priority Species; distribution which presents a companion statistic based on time series on frequency of occurrence (distribution) of priority species. 1. Introduction The adjustments to the UK biodiversity indicators set as a result of the adoption of the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity (including the Aichi Targets) at the 10th Conference of Parties of the Convention on Biological Diversity mean there is a need to report progress against Aichi Target 12: Target 12: By 2020 the extinction of known threatened species has been prevented and their conservation status, particularly of those most in decline, has been improved and sustained. Previously, the UK biodiversity indicator for threatened species used lead partner status assessments on the status of priority species from 3-yearly UK Biodiversity Action Plan (UK BAP) reporting rounds. As a result of the devolution of biodiversity strategies to the UK's 4 nations, there is no longer reporting at the UK level of the status of species previously listed by the BAP process. This paper presents a robust indicator of the status of threatened species in the UK, with species identified as conservation priorities being taken as a proxy for threatened species.

  • Effect of Different Mowing Regimes on Butterflies and Diurnal Moths on Road Verges A
Animal Biodiversity and Conservation 29.2 (2006) 133 Effect of different mowing regimes on butterflies and diurnal moths on road verges A. Valtonen, K. Saarinen & J. Jantunen Valtonen, A., Saarinen, K. & Jantunen, J., 2006. Effect of different mowing regimes on butterflies and diurnal moths on road verges. Animal Biodiversity and Conservation, 29.2: 133–148. Abstract Effect of different mowing regimes on butterflies and diurnal moths on road verges.— In northern and central Europe road verges offer alternative habitats for declining plant and invertebrate species of semi– natural grasslands. The quality of road verges as habitats depends on several factors, of which the mowing regime is one of the easiest to modify. In this study we compared the Lepidoptera communities on road verges that underwent three different mowing regimes regarding the timing and intensity of mowing; mowing in mid–summer, mowing in late summer, and partial mowing (a narrow strip next to the road). A total of 12,174 individuals and 107 species of Lepidoptera were recorded. The mid–summer mown verges had lower species richness and abundance of butterflies and lower species richness and diversity of diurnal moths compared to the late summer and partially mown verges. By delaying the annual mowing until late summer or promoting mosaic–like mowing regimes, such as partial mowing, the quality of road verges as habitats for butterflies and diurnal moths can be improved. Key words: Mowing management, Road verge, Butterfly, Diurnal moth, Alternative habitat, Mowing intensity.

  • Summary of Cheshire Moths: 2008-2013
CHESHIRE (VICE COUNTY 58) SUMMARY OF CHESHIRE MOTHS: 2008-2013 Authors: Steve H. Hind and Steve Holmes Date: December 2015 Summary of Cheshire Moths 2008-2013 Introduction With the absence of an annual moth report for six years and following publication of the 2014 report earlier this year, we have attempted to bring together some of the main changes to the counties moth populations since the last county report for 2007. Individual Micro-moth reports were published for 2008 and 2009 in the Journal of the Lancashire & Cheshire Entomological Society, Volumes 133 & 134, for Sessions 2009 & 2010 of the Annual Report & Proceedings but this is the first report to include the counties macro-moths for those years. Unfortunately, the amount of work required to produce a similar type of document to the 2014 report would have taken well over a year or more to complete and as such a more selective approach has been taken; this translates to producing an account for just those species that have either: been reported on very few occasions, or have undergone significant changes, either in terms of distribution or population Summary No fewer than seven new macro-moth and 23 micro-moth species appeared for the first time in Cheshire during the period covered by this publication; an astonishing number brought about by Moth recording continuing to increase during the period, especially of micro-moths. We received a record 8,200 records of micro-moths in 2008, yet this more than doubled to 17,700 in 2013. There are a number of references, particularly within the accounts relating to macro-moths, where mention is made of either: the nth Cheshire record, or only ‘n’ records this century, or only ‘n’ Cheshire records To clarify these comments, they all relate to known, submitted, validated records within the County database.
