Foreword LOCAL DEVELOPMENT PLAN 2ARGYLL AND BUTE COUNCIL i Argyll and Bute is an incredibly diverse area with an outstanding natural environment, more inhabited islands than any other council in Scotland, miles of amazing coastline, small communities in remote rural areas and larger towns close to the central belt. The area is the second largest council area in Scotland and home to numerous award-winning businesses and services. The scale and diversity of our region presents great opportunities as well as major challenges in planning for the future development of the area. The Local Development Plan 2 plays a key role in promoting a successful future for Argyll and Bute by helping to deliver a prosperous and inclusive economy, safeguarding our environmental assets and planning for the future growth of our communities. In this time of economic uncertainty and faced with the challenges presented by climate change and a falling population, it is increasingly important for us to work together to achieve our shared objectives. Accordingly, the Proposed Local Development Plan 2 contains a strategy that is closely aligned to the Single Outcome Improvement Plan and with other key plans for the area. It sets out a land use framework for the next 10 years to promote, guide and manage development in Argyll and Bute. It also aims to support the delivery of new homes, create new employment opportunities and protect our natural and built environment through a suite of policies, proposals and deliverable development sites. The Proposed Local Development Plan 2 has been drawn up following a comprehensive engagement process with communities, developers, key government agencies and other stakeholders.

  • Appendix 2 - Schedule 4S Issues 198 - 335
Appendix 2 - Schedule 4s Issues 198 - 335 Issue 198 Proposed Removal of Settlement Zone – Ascog, Bute Development Plan Reporter: Reference: Body or person(s) submitting a representation raising the issue (including reference number): Ronald Falconer (8) David Eaglesham (50) Provision of the development plan to which the issue relates: Planning authority’s summary of the representation(s): Ronald Falconer (8) • I refer to Map Number 4 Ascog in the Proposals Maps for Bute and Cowal. I specifically refer to the field immediately to the north of Hawkstone Lodge, Ascog, Isle of Bute PA20 9EU and to the south of ‘Southpark’. I note that this field remains designated as Settlement Area. This appears an anomaly as the surrounding land to the west, south and east is designated as Countryside Area. The field is quite clearly ‘countryside’ and remains undeveloped. For at least the past 15 years it has been used as pasture. Any previous development proposals for this field have never been taken forward and the field continues to be used as pasture/grazing which is an appropriate use given the tranquil and rural nature of the surroundings. A further anomaly exists in that even if this area were to be Settlement Area it is not included in the Conservation Area which terminates at the northern boundary of the field. • I submit that the whole of the field in question should be re-designated as Countryside Area for the reasons I have given above. Also if the Council deems that it remains as Settlement Area then it should be included within the Conservation Area to ensure that any development proposals are in keeping with and uphold the fine Victorian heritage of nearby properties that front on to the A844.

  • Taynuilt War Memorial Book
Taynuilt War Memorial Book "LA A' BHLAIR 'S MATH NA CAIRDEAN" (Friends are good on the day of battle) Old Gaelic Proverb Taynuilt Boys 1914 Back l - r: Donald MacCall (Blackmill), Archie Campbell MM and John Campbell MM (Shore Cottage) Front l - r: Tommy MacPhee (Bridge of Awe,) James MacBean (Inverawe) Private John Black was born at Brochroy Farm Taynuilt in 1892: son of Johnnie Black, a Lismore man of uncertain temper who farmed there and ran a carting business. His Mother was Margaret MacDonald, an Aunt of the MacDonald sisters who, till recently, kept the sweet shop in the village. John was brought up with his elder brother Donald, his younger brother Alexander (Sandy) and his sisters Mary, Catherine (Katie) and Margaret (Maggie). Donald and Sandy also served in the Great War, but returned safely. Before the war John was a skilled ghillie and fisherman, much in demand with visiting gentlemen who " owed heavy baskets to his skill in boat- handling and his knowledge of baits and of where the fish lay." Villagers regarded him as one of the best young men in the District. John joined the 1/7th Battalion Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders as Private 278503. We know that he served as a stretcher-bearer and was mentally very affected when he came home on leave and recalled the suffering which he had witnessed. He was with the Battalion at the Battle of Arras when the 51st (Highland) and 34th Divisions advanced on 9th April 1917 and was killed in action on Vimy Ridge on that day, aged 25.
