From Edinburgh take the M9 to Stirling and A84 through Callander to Lochearnhead and join the A85 to Crianlarich. From Crianlarich take the A82 west to Tyndrum and then fork left onto the A85 following the signs to Oban. Continue for about 22 miles on the A85 along Loch Awe and through the Pass of Brander to Bridge of Awe. Shortly after passing the Brander Lodge Hotel on the left the road crosses the River Awe. The entrance to Fanamor is to be found on the left, about 250 yards after crossing the bridge. Situation Fanamor is a charming country house standing in an elevated position within its own land overlooking the River Awe, with magnificent views of Ben Cruachan beyond. Situated on the south side of the river, the house has privacy and seclusion, yet is only a short distance from the A85 providing access by car to Oban, Glasgow and Edinburgh. There is a railway station at Taynuilt with services into Glasgow and mainline connections to London. Glasgow airport can normally be reached in less than two hours. The hamlet of Bridge of Awe, one mile from Fanamor, offers a petrol station and Spar shop, and a nearby hotel, Brander Lodge. Taynuilt provides most essential shopping requirements, a medical practice, a primary school, a golf course and a sports centre. Oban is the principal shopping centre for the area and provides excellent schooling, recreational and entertainment facilities along with ferry services to the outer Isles. Loch Awe is a spectacular loch and is the longest freshwater loch in Scotland. Kilchurn Castle, at the northern end, is a dramatic ruin, which has become one of Scotland’s most photographed castles. There are a number of islands in the loch including Inishail, which is the burial island of the Dukes of Argyll. There are two notable hotels on the lochside, within about 10 miles of Fanamor – The Taychreggan and Ardanaiseig, both of which cater for the upper end of the market and have excellent restaurants. Argyll offers a full range of outdoor activities. There is spectacular hill walking, climbing and mountaineering in the area with skiing at Aonach Mhor (near Fort William) and at Glen Coe. Loch Awe holds a variety of freshwater fish and is famed for its huge ferox trout. The loch also offers the opportunity for boating and water sports. The west coast is also well known for its exciting sailing and varied coastline. Description Fanamor dates from 1629 when, as “Phannanes” House, it is believed to have been occupied by the Campbells of Argyll. It was for many years the farmhouse of Fanans Farm. The property was refurbished in 2009/2010 to a high standard and now forms a most comfortable country house. It is stone built under a slate roof, with the accommodation principally arranged on two floors. Particular features of the house are the wonderful views of Ben Cruachan, the large kitchen/family room, the two bedroom guest suite on the ground floor, with independent access, and the sheltered south facing courtyard to the rear of the house. Approached by a driveway from the public highway, the entrance to Fanamor is through a gate flanked by rhododendrons and leads to a gravel circle in front of the main entrance whilst the guest suite at the rear of the property can be reached by its own entrance from the courtyard.
