Collect for the Week O God, the protector of all who trust in you, without whom nothing is strong, nothing is holy: increase and multiply upon us your mercy; that with you as our ruler and guide we may so pass through things temporal that we lose not our hold on things eternal; grant this, heavenly Father, for our Lord Jesus Christ’s sake, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen

Reflection Coping……. A reflection on Matthew 11.28-30

By the time you read this more of the lockdown restrictions will have been lifted, I expect many of you have booked haircuts and some of you may even have adventured out to a pub or restaurant. However, others may still be worried about leaving their property due to being in a vulnerable group. For many of us, we do not want to be a burden on others, especially those, who over the last 3 months have delivered food and other essential goods to doorsteps and stopped and talked to us through the window. We may be finding this reliance on others a burden we do not want to bear.

Coping with it can be hard, especially if one has lived an independent life. In this week’s reading from Matthew’s Gospel, we are given a way forward. Jesus tells us that by going to him He will share our burdens and give us rest. He is gentle and humble in heart and in him we can find rest for our souls.

So, in these difficult times why not find out how Jesus can help you by asking him into your life and sharing your worries and fears with him, for He is waiting for your call. Collection plate. Our churches may be closed, but they still need to be maintained and insured so that they will be ready for worship when the doors do finally open. Many of you normally support the church by putting money into the collection plate. Could I ask, if you are able to, that you continue your support by putting the amount you would normally give to one side and to bring it to church when we are able to gather again. With grateful thanks.

Hymns for Sunday 5th July

Hymns recorded remotely by the Choral Scholars of St Martin’s-in-the-Field in their homes, and edited together.

1 All creatures of our God and King lift up your voice and with us sing, Alleluia, alleluia. Thou burning sun with golden beam, thou silver moon with softer gleam, O praise him, O praise him, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.

2 Thou rushing wind that art so strong, ye clouds that sail in heaven along, O praise him, alleluia. Thou rising morn, in praise rejoice, ye lights of evening, find a voice; Chorus

3 Thou flowing water, pure and clear, make music for thy Lord to hear, Alleluia, alleluia. Thou fire so masterful and bright, that givest us both warmth and light: Chorus

4 Let all things their creator bless, and worship him in humbleness; O praise him, alleluia. Praise, praise the Father, praise the Son, and praise the Spirit, Three in One; Chorus William Henry Draper (1855-1933) based on Laudato sii, O me signore St Francis of Assisi's Canticle of the Sun

1 The Spirit lives to set us free, walk, walk in the light. He binds us all in unity, walk, walk in the light. Walk in the light, walk in the light, walk in the light, walk in the light of the Lord

Page 6

2 Jesus promised life to all, walk, walk in the light. The dead were wakened by his call, walk, walk in the light. Chorus

3 By Jesus' love our wounds are healed, walk, walk in the light. The Father's kindness is revealed, walk, walk in the light. Chorus

4 The Spirit lives in you and me, walk, walk in the light. His light will shine for all to see, walk, walk in the light. Chorus Damian Lundy (1940-1997) © 1978 Kevin Mayhew Ltd

1 Meekness and majesty, manhood and deity, in perfect harmony, the Man who is God. Lord of eternity dwells in humanity, kneels in humility, and washes our feet. Oh, what a mystery, meekness and majesty. Bow down and worship for this is your God, this is your God.

2 Father's pure radiance, perfect in innocence, yet learns obedience to death on a cross. Suffering to give us life, conquering through sacrifice, and as they crucify prays: 'Father forgive.' Refrain

3 Wisdom unsearchable, God the invisible, love indestructible in frailty appears. Lord of infinity, stooping so tenderly, lifts our humanity to the heights of his throne. Refrain

Lord of the dance 1 I danced in the morning when the world was begun, and I danced in the moon and the stars and the sun, and I came down from heaven and I danced on the earth, at Bethlehem I had my birth. Dance, then, wherever you may be, I am the Lord of the dance, said he, And I'll lead you all, wherever you may be, And I'll lead you all in the dance, said he.

2 I danced for the scribe and the pharisee, but they would not dance and they wouldn't follow me. I danced for the fishermen, for James and John - they came with me and the dance went on. Chorus

3 I danced on the Sabbath and I cured the lame; the holy people said it was a shame. They whipped and they stripped and they hung me on high, and left me there on a cross to die. Chorus

4 I danced on a Friday when the sky turned black - it's hard to dance with the devil on your back. They buried my body and they thought I'd gone, but I am the dance, and I still go on. Chorus

5 They cut me down and I leapt up high; I am the life that'll never, never die; I'll live in you if you'll live in me - I am the Lord of the dance, said he. Chorus Sydney Carter (1915-2004) © 1963 Stainer & Bell Ltd
