The Known Cravfishes of Arizona: A Summarv Renort Prepared By Terry Inman Bio.310 For Dr. Paul C. Marsh ASU Center for Environmental Studies Introduction The crayfishes ofNorth America display greater diversity in terms of species than any other part ofthe world. Some 338 recognizedtaxa (308 species and 30 subspecies) exist within the United States and Canada (Taylor, C.A. et d,. 1996). At least one species of crayfish is native to every state in the contiguous United States (Hobbs, H.H. Jr. l9S9) except Arizona which claims no species of its own. Until recently Arizona had (from our earliest records) remained void ofthis diverse group of invertebrates. However, sometime within the last 30 years crayfishes have begun to show up in Arizona waters. Some have been intentionally stocked by the Arizona Game and Fish department (AZGFD stocking records l93l - l99l) and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (verbal - MarstU P.C.) as forage for game fish such as trout and large mouth bass. Although the extent ofthe introductions by the USFWS in not known, the AZGFD has reported three sites of introduction (all lakes), one inl97l, and two in 1991. other sources of crayfish introduction have probably been a result of bait bucket introductions by sport fishermen. Although no direct evidence ofthis is known it is perhaps the most reasonable explanation for their wide spread existence. Despite crayfishes having become common fauna in many Arizona waters they have managed to attract little attention from any Federal, Statg or scientific community. The kinds, distribution, and abundance of Arizona's crayfish is unknown, they have not yet been inventoried, or studied. -

In Africa, these practices are increasingly becoming problematic due to the circumstances surrounding the procedure and the underlying health risks. Despite these threats, skin bleaching and other body augmentation procedures remain prevalent around the world. This thesis uses a multipronged approach in examining the concept of skin bleaching and body image politics in Kenya. I argue that colonial legacies, globalization, increase in the use of technology, and the digitization of Kenya television broadcasting has had a great impact on the spread and shift of cultures in Kenya resulting to such practices. I will also look at the role of a commercial spaces within a city in enabling and providing access to such practices to middle and lower class citizens. Additionally, this study aims at addressing the importance of decolonizing Kenyans concerning issues surrounding beauty and body image. iv This thesis is a special dedication to loving father, for believing in girl child education and sacrificing everything to see me succeed. For setting the bar so high for me and cheering me on as I made every stride. -

Many people have come into my life in the last several years and encouraged my studies, talked excitedly with me, and subtly (or blatantly) pushed me to continue when I thought the road ahead looked too ominous. In 2005, at San Francisco State University’s Asian American Studies banquet, my Master’s thesis chair, Wei Ming Dariotis, remarked that a PhD was in the stars for me. Those words stayed close to me during my graduate work at the University of Hawai'i. My first teaching assistantship with Isabelle Peluad at San Francisco State University in Asian American Literature showed me exactly what I wanted to immerse myself in for the rest of my life. Graduate courses with Russell Jeung and Madeline Hsu reaffirmed my desire to work within the field of Asian American Studies and continue on to a doctorate program. My coursework in American Studies was rigorous and pushed me out of my comfort zone in the best way. -

Bodies without the Burden: White Appropriation and Exploitation of Black Appearance and Culture Abstract Critiques of cultural appropriation in regards to inappropriate Halloween costumes and the phenomenon of Instagram models “black-fishing” their followers are more prevalent now than ever before, but white exploitation of black culture and appearance is nothing new. In academia, the term “cultural appropriation” describes how aspects of a marginalized group’s culture are taken by those in a dominant group without regard to their cultural significance. In her chapter, “Black Culture Without Black People,” Imani Kai Johnson refers to appropriation as “colonialism at the scale of the dancing body or the sacred ritual object, its life and dynamism reduced to a thing for consumption or a costume for play” (Kai Johnson, 2020). This paper will explore how American society’s general illusion of color-blind ideology perpetuates an environment of justified cultural appropriation that is often tied to economic exploitation. -

Elected officials were joined by National Park Service representative Kath- leen Bond at a ceremony commemorating the honor at the capitol on May 4. “The Mississippi State Capitol is being recognized today as nationally significant for its architectural splendor, but it is also important to me because it stands witness to all the momentous events of the twentieth century in Mississippi,” said Bond. “This building was born in a time of newly legis- lated racial segregation and stood through the unfolding events that marked the progress of civil rights for Mississippians.” The Mississippi State Capitol is a magnificent example of the Beaux Arts style, with large, grandiose spaces and an From left, Lt.
