Rosenborg BK V Olympiacos CFP PRESS KIT
Rosenborg BK v Olympiacos CFP PRESS KIT Lerkendal, Trondheim Wednesday, 23 November 2005 - 20:45 CET Group F - Matchday 5 Despite Olympique Lyonnais and Real Madrid CF having qualified for the knockout stages of the competition, the meeting between Rosenborg BK and Olympiacos CFP still has plenty of significance. The side finishing third in the group continues in European football in the UEFA Cup, and both clubs are still firmly in contention. Norwegian edge •Rosenborg will hope to keep their season going after missing out on a 14th consecutive domestic title last month. The Norwegian club are the favourites to reach the UEFA Cup, by virtue of their 3-1 win at Olympiacos on the opening day of this season's competition, and the fact the Greek side have yet to record a point following their first four games. •On Matchday 1, Rosenborg pulled off a surprise win against an Olympiacos team with a useful home record and who had taken the lead when Alejandro Lago put through his own net. Per Ciljan Skjelbred and Øyvind Storflor replied for the Norwegian side, either side of a Dimitrios Mavrogenidis own goal. Previous encounter •The clubs were drawn together in one previous UEFA Champions League season, in the 1997/98 tournament. On Matchday 2, the teams met in Norway, with Rosenborg recording a resounding 5-1 win. The Norewegian side then drew 2-2 in the return match, but their group tally of eleven points was not enough to see them progress. •Roar Strand, still in the Rosenborg squad, was one of the stars of the 5-1 win with two first-half goals, while striker Harald Brattbakk was also on target twice, and striking partner Sigurd Rushfeldt completed the scoring.
