Records Service Records Indexes Tithe Apportionment and Plans handlist The Tithe Commutation Act of 1836 replaced the ancient system of payment of tithes in kind with monetary payments. As part of the valuation process which was undertaken by the Tithe Commissioners a series of surveys were carried out, part of the results of which are the Tithe Maps and Apportionments. An Apportionment is the principal record of the commutation of tithes in a parish or area. Strictly speaking the apportionment and map together constitute a single document, but have been separated to facilitate use and storage. The standard form of an Apportionment contains columns for the name(s) of the landowners and occupier(s); the numbers, acreage, name or description, and state of cultivation of each tithe area; the amount of rent charge payable, and the name(s) of the tithe-owner(s). Tithe maps vary greatly in scale, accuracy and size. The initial intent was to produce maps of the highest possible quality, but the expense (incurred by the landowners) led to the provision that the accuracy of the maps would be testified to by the seal of the commissioners, and only maps of suitable quality would be so sealed. In the end, about one sixth of the maps had seals. A map was produced for each "tithe district", that is, one region in which tithes were paid as a unit. These were often distinct from parishes or townships. Areas in which tithes had already been commutated were not mapped, so that coverage varied widely from county to county.

  • A PROVISIONAL LIST Although the Structural History of Bordesley
THE ABBOTS OF BORDESLEY: A PROVISIONAL LIST Although the structural history of Bordesley abbey, Redditch (Worcs, England), is now relatively well-known through the important excavations at the site,1 the documentary history of this important Cis- tercian house remains largely neglected.2 The present paper is intended to go a little way towards redressing this neglect by offering a provisio— nal list of the abbots of Bordesley from the time of its foundation in 1138 until its dissolution four centuries later in 1538. This is by no me- ans the first attempt to reconstruct the abbatial succession for the hou- se. For example, lists of abbots were offered by antiquaries such as Browne Willis, Thomas Tanner, Treadway Nash, and the later editors of William Dugdale's Monasticon Anglicanum, as well as by more re- cent scholars and historians.3 However, on closer analysis, these (what I shall term) «antiquarian lists» prove to be lacking in various respects, while the most recent and scholarly list of abbots of Bordesley does not go beyond 1222.4 l. • Update on the Three Counties Medical School
Update on the Three Counties Medical School Dear Colleague You are receiving this because you have previously expressed interest in the formation of a Three Counties Medical School (TCMS). This is intended to give you an update on progress. The Course To start with a few basics, the course will be: • Four year, graduate-entry course • 100 students/year • First admissions September 2021 • Course based on that of Swansea who are the ‘contingent partner’ • Entry criteria o 1 or 2i degree in any subject o Pass GAMSAT (Graduate Medical School Admission Test; basic science related to health) to a requisite level o Interview • Widening participation is a key objective • Emphasis on primary care and psychiatry o But must graduate pluri-potential doctors Clinical Environment The TCMS is based at the University of Worcester. The University has significant strengths in a range of health-related subjects, including Physician Associates, and its graduates are well regarded in the local health services. The area of TCMS covers the counties of Herefordshire, Gloucestershire and Worcestershire and the NHS facilities in all of these will be essential in providing the clinical, and some basic medical science, learning and teaching. This may be extended to the contiguous areas if the environment is suitable. Clinical placements will be in approximately equal numbers in the community and in secondary care. The ‘community’ is taken to include both primary care and specialist care provided out with the major hospitals. It is anticipated that ‘hubs’ of community hospitals, their associated general practitioners and the related health care team will provide a suitable framework.

CONTENTS 2 Our Best Shot 3 Public Meeting and Annual General Meeting 3 News In Brief 5 Ticket To Ride 7 Wheels In Motion 8 Chairman’s Comments PLATFORM is published by: The Stourbridge Line User Group, 46 Sandringham Road, Wordsley, Stourbridge, West Midlands, DY8 5HL - 1 - www.stourbridgelineusergroup.info OUR BEST SHOT by Rob Hebron The Stourbridge Line User Group has been heavily involved with producing a response to the West Midlands Rail Consultation document. The implications of this consultation, on which the Department for Transport will decide the best franchise regional train operator, are enormous. The process is much more than asking for service improvements, it is framing SLUG campaigns in a persuasive way. By the time of submission on March 15th, the SLUG document underwent seven revisions after thorough and thoughtful debate. Preparation for the SLUG response has involved various liaison events including presentations at Worcester County Hall (attended by myself and William Whiting) and Birmingham Council House (attended by Roger Davis). Other stakeholders at these meetings have included fraternal Rail User Groups, Centro officers and Worcestershire County Councillors. These parties have been valuable allies who have reinforced SLUG campaigns and general objectives for improved connectivity. Question and answer sessions have, on the whole, been constructive and productive on various levels. Unofficial sources suggest that there are at least eight interested companies or consortiums prepared to bid for operating trains within the West Midlands Rail Franchise.
