One of the most exciting accomplishments for 2012 was the addition of two new satellites to our growing fleet through the successful launches of EchoStar XVI and EchoStar XVII, bringing our total number of owned, leased and managed spacecraft to twenty-two. EchoStar operates the world’s fourth largest commercial geostationary satellite fleet and we continue to solidify our position as a premier global leader in satellite communications and operations. EchoStar ended 2012 with revenue of $3.1 billion, a growth of 13% over 2011. EBITDA in 2012 was $794 million, a growth of 64% over 2011. We generated a healthy $508 million of cash from operating activities in 2012 as a result primarily of the strong net income in 2012 and ended the year with a strong balance sheet with $1.5 billion of cash and marketable securities. EchoStar reached two very important long-term North America goals in 2012 with the market implementation of the HughesNet Gen4 service and the roll-out of the Hopper Whole Home DVR solution for DISH. Both solutions are garnering high praise and rapid adoption by consumers, a glowing testament to the capabilities and ingenuity of the EchoStar team. Additional notable accomplishments for 2012 include the very successful introduction of two new Slingbox retail products, several large enterprise contract renewals and new customers for Hughes data network services around the globe, and above-forecast sales of set-top-box products and video services to our established operator customers. -

When a choice of cachets was available, artwork that most closely replicated the postage stamp was chosen. Of the original cadre, Paul Calle, an illustrator of science fiction book covers, joined Robert McCall and six others and began to sketch. As commissioned artists they received $800 and access to draw a blossoming manned space program. Over the years the NASA Art Program would include the works of pop artist Andy Warhol, photographer Annie Leibovitz, and American illustrator Norman Rockwell. Paul Calle remained associated with NASA from Mercury through Gemini, Apollo, and the Space Shuttle. Over the years, he helped guide his son Chris to become a serious artist in his own right. Paul would design over 50 stamps for the Post Office Department and the US Postal Service including the Gemini space twins in 1967 and the First Man on the Moon issue of 1969. To beat the Soviets in putting a man in space, the US Air Force selected nine pilots Chris collaborated with his father on two space stamps to celebrate the 25th for Man In Space Soonest (MISS). -

Based on orbital data in ESA’s DISCOS database and on orbital data provided by KIAM the situation near the geostationary ring (here defined as orbits with mean motion between 0.9 and 1.1 revolutions per day, eccentricity smaller than 0.2 and inclination below 70 deg) is analysed. From 1291 objects for which orbital data are available, 422 are controlled inside their longitude slots, 662 are drifting above, below or through GEO, 178 are in a libration orbit, 9 are in highly-inclined orbits and 20 , whose status could not be determined. Furthermore, there are 78 uncontrolled objects without or- bital data (of which 73 have not been catalogued). Thus the total number of known objects in the geostationary region is 1369 . During 2012 at least fourteen spacecraft reached end-of-life. Nine of them were reorbited following the IADC recommendations. Four spacecraft were reorbited too low. We identified one spacecraft that seems to be abandoned or could not make any reorbiting manouevre at all in 2012 and is now librating inside the geostationary ring. -

There was the Earth and the Heavens, and the more or less divine links between the two. Science secularized the cosmos, and engineers hurled their rockets right into it. Where does space begin? Where does the Earth end? On its surface? With its atmosphere? With its gravitational field? With what used to be called “the known world,” that is, the “inhabited” and mapped world ? French uses the vague term espace to designate “the world beyond the world,” while English prefers “outer space,” implying that there is an “inside space” as well. Space and territories are at the core of many space artworks. Leave the Earth, turn around and look back at it. This macroscopic vision involves a shift in the relationship of scale between us and our planet that is simultaneously glorious and overwhelming. Alain Jacquet took up this global vision in his serigraph First Breakfast (1972), where the Earth, seen from the pole, looks like an image seen on a radar screen. The human vision and the artificial vision of satellites for a new re- presentation of the world. For the @ Geosphere Project (1990), Tom Van Sant made a polar projection map of the earth using satellite photos. This “real” image goes beyond cartographic abstraction, with its political boundaries etc. It is unreal, or perhaps ultra- real, because there is not a cloud in sight. But you can also use the Earth as a medium, as if going beyond Land Art, and draw on it an eye that is reflected by the "eye" of the satellites in an endlessly reflexive stare (Reflections from Earth, Tom Van Sant, 1980), or its medieval symbol, fusing sign and object (Signature Terre, Pierre Comte, 1989). -

From our financial performance to our continued progress in the satellite, broadband and video distribution platforms, we continue to demonstrate why we are a leader in the global provisioning of satellite operations and video-delivery solutions. EchoStar ended the 2014 fiscal year very strong, and we continue to meet our financial goals as a corporation. Revenues were $3.45 billion, increasing 5% over 2013, and EBITDA was $903 million—a 39% increase over the fiscal year 2013. Net Income attributable to EchoStar shareholders increased from $5 million in 2013 to $165 million in 2014. We continue to have a very strong balance sheet, with approximately $1.7 billion of cash and marketable securities, giving us ample resources to continue to pursue our strategic objectives. EchoStar has evolved into one of the world’s largest products-and-services companies for satellite-based broadcast and broadband networking. Our vertical integration gives us a unique position in our current markets and also in other markets that we continue to enter. Each of our four divisions plays a role in this strategy, and as we go into the future we will make investments to increase our market share in all of these segments: x We now own, lease and/or manage 24 satellites and continue to add to this fleet. In addition to the Ku and Ka satellites that we have in our fleet, we now have five satellites under construction, including a satellite for mobility services in Europe.
