Q4 Why did you decide to live in Poncey-Highland?

Answered: 87 Skipped: 49

# RESPONSES DATE 1 I chose the building more than I specifically chose the neighborhood. But I wanted a neighborhood 8/31/2019 3:15 PM where I could walk out in the evening and find things to eat and drink and do, and Poncey-Highland definitely is that. I was excited by the opportunity to become a regular at Manuel's. I also like that the neighborhood has a somewhat grubby history. 2 In a VERY hot market of 1998, houses were selling in hours and over asking price, so we had to 8/31/2019 5:49 AM jump quickly. We had been open to PH and surrounding neighborhoods like due to intown proximity & access to everything. We were ONLY in the market for a historic home with "good bones". So glad we landed in Poncey. 3 Walk ability, style of home, revenue stream from detached rental and proximity to Belt line, parks 8/31/2019 5:28 AM and retail. 4 Location 8/31/2019 5:15 AM

5 Location, walkability 8/30/2019 5:57 AM 6 I found a house with potential that I could afford. 8/29/2019 7:43 PM 7 Married my husband. Got lucky!! 8/29/2019 7:05 PM

8 Location in and walkability 8/29/2019 5:40 PM 9 proximity to the Belt Line and walking lifestyle 8/29/2019 5:27 PM 10 Location 8/29/2019 4:47 PM 11 Charm, trees, walkability, historic houses 8/27/2019 10:58 AM

12 Great walk-ability, the park and community feel. 8/26/2019 7:32 AM 13 I loved being in the ‘heart’ of the new development in Atlanta. Especially being close to the 8/26/2019 4:45 AM and . 14 I married someone who already lived here 8/24/2019 4:57 PM 15 Location to the other neighborhoods 8/23/2019 5:41 AM 16 I lived here in the early 2000s & have always liked the neighborhood & its location. 8/21/2019 3:08 PM

17 It was a great location between Virginia Highlands and , it had a great school 8/21/2019 1:36 PM district, and it seemed to be a safe neighborhood when we bought. 18 I love the walkability, restaurants, BeltLine and Freedom Park. I love the historic 8/21/2019 11:56 AM parts of the neighborhood, the trees and the diverse visitors and residents 19 Walkability, single family home proximity to restaurants / city life, close to many neighborhoods our 8/21/2019 8:56 AM friends live in 20 Quaint neighborhood, proximity to everything. 8/21/2019 7:30 AM 21 Love the neighborhood. 8/21/2019 6:19 AM 22 Liked area 8/21/2019 4:32 AM

23 Love living Intown. 8/20/2019 5:58 PM 24 We came in town every weekend. Decided to move down. It was about 1/2 way between our work 8/20/2019 5:14 AM locations at the time. Met our future neighbors looking at houses and that was it. 25 wanted to live in town & could not afford any of the surrounding neighborhoods (VAHI, Candler 8/20/2019 1:13 AM Park, ). PH was still affordable in the early 90s because no one wanted to live here 26 Wanted to live close to City in a neighborhood. 8/19/2019 5:43 PM

27 Super walkable with lots to see and do without getting in a car. We bought a lovely historic home 8/19/2019 12:10 PM and saw a lot of potential growth from the BeltLine and related developments, while also the feel of a small neighborhood with lots of old growth trees and parkspace.

28 Location: better schools compared with other neighborhoods, access to walking and biking trails, 8/19/2019 10:44 AM easily walkable to lots of restaurants and shopping, easy access to the highway, close to my job. Atmosphere: a great mix of older/longtime residents and newer people/families, and just flat-out great people. :) 29 I decided to live in Poncey-Highland because it is a live-work-play community that is beautiful, 8/19/2019 8:55 AM active and diverse. 30 I love the walkability of the neighborhood. 33 Connectivity to multiple commercial corridors (Plaza, N Highland, PCM, IP). 8/19/2019 8:20 AM 34 I loved it's accessibility to restaurants and the parts of Atlanta that I wanted to be in. 8/19/2019 5:41 AM 35 Desire to be in town, not in the burbs. 37 It had the right feel to it. We liked the laid back & "live & let live" atmosphere. At the time, it was 8/18/2019 1:42 PM also affordable ;-) . Other close by intown neighborhoods were too stuffy.

38 Walk-ability, in town neighborhood feel 8/18/2019 1:18 PM 39 I wanted a house here 8/18/2019 9:46 AM 40 Walkable Proximity to BeltLine, PCM, and other places Character and quality of streets, houses, 8/18/2019 7:54 AM and buildings 41 School district and walkability are what originally attracted us. 8/18/2019 5:56 AM

50 walkabilty, central location, access to parks and arts/culture 8/17/2019 1:34 PM 51 Our reasons back in 1986: 1) close location to our downtown offices; 2) the Carter Library was 8/17/2019 12:55 PM under construction nearby which we thought would keep our property value high. 52 BeltLine 8/17/2019 11:45 AM

73 Love the style of homes here, and it is convenient to everything. 8/16/2019 2:50 PM

74 I was born in Atlanta, grew up in Druid Hills, went to Emory, GSU, and was living in Candler park 8/16/2019 2:46 PM in the 80s and wanted to buy a house. I knew the Ponce area was on the resurgence ever since the (murder) had been built. Plus I'm a musician and lots of hip bohemian friends lived in the area. Additionally, the area is near everything: midtown/downtown/decatur/Little Five, etc.

75 Convenient to everything! 8/16/2019 2:27 PM

Q5 Do you like the house or condo you live in or own? Why or why not?

Answered: 86 Skipped: 50

# RESPONSES DATE 1 Yes, very much. I live in the Highland School Lofts. It took me a year to find a place to buy 8/31/2019 3:15 PM because I wanted a place that had character. The old school definitely has character. I also like the view from my window - the building's large backyard with its lovely old oaks, then a view into the quiet backyards of Blue Ridge and finally a glimpse of Ponce to remind me that I do actually live in the city.

2 Yes. We love our home. It has the charm and quirks of a historic home, with a 2nd floor addition 8/31/2019 5:49 AM that fits the character of the neighborhood - which the increase in space of that reno allowed us to stay in PH to raise our family. 3 Yes, because the floor plan had been modified from the original to accommodate modern 8/31/2019 5:28 AM conveniences, like a second bathroom or built in kitchen but it still felt cohesive to the original style and not out of character or contrived.

4 Yes. We did a large addition 16 years ago 8/31/2019 5:15 AM 5 Yes, because location and walkability 8/30/2019 5:57 AM

6 Yes, it was built in 1922 and has the high ceilings and spacious living areas I love. 8/29/2019 7:43 PM

7 Adore our house! The walkabilty is off the charts, and I love the historic charm. 8/29/2019 7:05 PM 8 Yes. My was torn down and rebuilt prior to us buying it. It is unique and updated. 8/29/2019 5:40 PM

9 Yes 8/29/2019 5:27 PM 10 Yes, I like the character of an older home 8/29/2019 4:47 PM

15 Yes. The location. 8/23/2019 5:41 AM 16 Yes, it has character & maintains the integrity of the neighborhood. 8/21/2019 3:08 PM

17 We love our house as it is one of the oldest homes on the street and it still has that old Craftsman 8/21/2019 1:36 PM charm. We are also the 3rd owners of this house and I am familiar with its history and the history of the previous owners. 18 yes 8/21/2019 11:56 AM

19 Yes. Great yard, charming older house. 8/21/2019 8:56 AM

58 No - it is too small and cramped for our family, but we have been priced out of the neighborhood 8/17/2019 8:18 AM over the years and can no longer afford to purchase a home in Poncey-Highland so we stay and deal with it. We love our location and our school. We have been here a long time and are happy about many of the changes - BeltLine, more restaurants and businesses, some improvement to walkability. Just disappointed that it has also disproportionally jacked up the cost of homes. Prices are overinflated. Recent news reports that property costs in Atlanta have climbed 61% between 2012-2017. Ridiculous. We need to do more to preserve affordability and diversity in our neighborhoods or we will lose the things that we love in our neighborhoods, and our roads will be clogged by the workforce commuters needed to support our businesses as they won’t be able to afford to live in our neighborhoods.

59 Love it! It's the perfect size for a small family, has a ton of character, with good bones. 8/17/2019 8:11 AM

60 Yes. 8/17/2019 7:44 AM 61 Love it. Love 1920s charm. 8/17/2019 7:38 AM

62 Yes, to a point. It is very old and needs much upkeep. 8/17/2019 7:33 AM

63 Yes. I face the trees on Ralph Mcgill. My unit is bathed in natural light. 8/17/2019 7:33 AM 64 Yes. It is a really pretty and historic building. The people who live in it, though, are stand-offish. But 8/17/2019 7:26 AM that's the way Atlanta is now.

65 I love where I live. It’s conveniently located on the beltline, but feels like a quiet, peaceful building. 8/17/2019 7:21 AM 66 Yes, great character and location 8/17/2019 7:20 AM

70 Love it. It is an old home on Linwood my husband and I own it. We are working to renovate our 8/17/2019 1:23 AM 2nd floor. We love the space, our garden, that we have the parkway behind us, and lots more. 71 yes, tucked away but in the middle of everything 8/16/2019 4:37 PM

72 Yes, proximity to Beltline & PCM. Good schools. Dislikes Dugans, our street is a cut through. 8/16/2019 3:06 PM

73 Love it - traditional bungalow. 8/16/2019 2:50 PM 74 What's not to love? Its a classy brick 1920s duplex with a terra cotta roof. Perfect size. Everyday I 8/16/2019 2:46 PM pinch myself.

75 Yes, charming older house with just the right amount of size and yard 8/16/2019 2:27 PM

76 Love it. Location! Affordability 8/16/2019 2:16 PM 77 Yes. We have downsized. We were fortunate enough to find a reasonably priced fixer that we 8/16/2019 2:11 PM could customize to suit our needs.

78 Yes. It’s close it’s original design. Has not been overly modified since the early 1920’s. I like the 8/16/2019 1:38 PM big yard. 79 No, we own a condo and are ready for a house with a yard and no HOA. 8/16/2019 1:27 PM

83 80% Yes due to location, property values, neighbors. 20% No due to traffic, parking, occasional 8/16/2019 12:56 PM crime. 84 yes 8/16/2019 12:54 PM

85 My home is small and we want to renovate. North Ave needs traffic calming. In the meantime, 8/16/2019 12:52 PM large semi trucks should not be allowed in the residential section and cars drive much too fast . 86 Yes! Love the stone exterior, the trees, our neighbors, the urban environment. The street can be a 8/16/2019 12:14 PM bit noisy, but that's an urban environment.

Q6 Why did you buy a property on your street or in your building?

Answered: 85 Skipped: 51

# RESPONSES DATE 1 See #4 and #5. 8/31/2019 3:15 PM 2 Our home on Somerset came on the market on a Tuesday morning in Spring of 1998 and we had 8/31/2019 5:49 AM a contract in within hours...5 more bids came that same day. The house needed work after sitting vacant for 7 years (owner in a nursing home), but we were more than up for the task. It was the perfect old home that we had been looking for!

3 There is and was limited inventory. Maybe not my first choice but the aesthetics of the street are 8/31/2019 5:28 AM appealing and the placement on the hill side gave it separation from the road.

4 No neighbors to the rear. We are on Freedom Parkway 8/31/2019 5:15 AM

5 Potential profit from growing real estate economy 8/30/2019 5:57 AM 6 It was affordable and for sale. 8/29/2019 7:43 PM

7 At the time - 1991 - it was all my husband could afford! He loved the brick fireplaces and high 8/29/2019 7:05 PM ceilings. 8 Timing of us looking and when house was available. The specific street was not a factor. 8/29/2019 5:40 PM

9 proximity to Belt Line - size of home and general location was what we were looking for. Exact 8/29/2019 5:27 PM street wasn't the concern.

10 Quiet street, great location 8/29/2019 4:47 PM 11 Because there are no huge ugly modern houses here that don’t fit in. 8/27/2019 10:58 AM

12 We wanted to buy in the neighborhood and were fortunate enough to find one on our street. 8/26/2019 7:32 AM

13 I wanted to lock in a certain price before prices got even crazier. I rented in the neighborhood 8/26/2019 4:45 AM before I bought and I have no regrets having bought.

14 I didn’t choose it. My husband bought first then I moved in. 8/24/2019 4:57 PM

15 The location 8/23/2019 5:41 AM 16 Location & availability. 8/21/2019 3:08 PM

17 We bought originally because our house was the location we wanted and it was the right price for 8/21/2019 1:36 PM the “right” house. 18 I love bungalows and ours hadn't been touched 8/21/2019 11:56 AM

19 Walkability, general charm of street 8/21/2019 8:56 AM

20 The promise of what Poncey Highland could be in the future. 8/21/2019 7:30 AM 21 Location 8/21/2019 4:32 AM

22 Loved the house. 8/20/2019 5:58 PM

23 We felt at home the first time we walked into it. Only looked really one day. I think we looked at 7 8/20/2019 5:14 AM or 8 houses that day. Guess we choose well. 24 It was for sale at a price we could afford. Meeting a couple of the neighbors convinced us we were 8/20/2019 1:13 AM making the right decision.

25 First attracted to the street and proximity to City. 8/19/2019 5:43 PM 26 Checked all of our boxes — great area, room for growth, walkable, historic, and within our budget! 8/19/2019 12:10 PM

27 We loved the neighborhood and the price was right. For the cost of a fixer-upper, we had the 8/19/2019 10:44 AM opportunity to customize things to our liking, mainly the kitchen.

28 I bought this property in the Somerset Condominiums because it seemed like an easy to manage 8/19/2019 8:55 AM space for my first home and also in a good school zone and social atmosphere.

29 When I bought my home it was in the middle of a renovation so I got to pick the fixtures and lights 8/19/2019 8:44 AM which made it a little more personal and a little more mine. I also really enjoy the proximity to the beltline. 30 We thought it would be a good investment and we have always wanted to live in the Poncey 8/19/2019 8:34 AM Highland Neighborhood.

31 It was a very good price at the time 285k for a 2br, 1 bath 1013 sq ft. condo with proximity to all 8/19/2019 8:20 AM that Poncey Highland and the surrounding neighborhoods have to offer. 32 Price and the communal backyard for our dog to enjoy. 8/19/2019 8:20 AM

33 Because of the aesthetic and size of my building/unit. (1 bedroom in renovated 1920 building) 8/19/2019 5:41 AM

34 Price and in town, dollars and sense (location). 8/19/2019 3:54 AM 35 Good price at the time 8/19/2019 1:59 AM

36 It was not on a main street like Ponce or North, but still close enough to everything I wanted. It had 8/18/2019 1:42 PM a lot of charm and curb appeal. Plus we were able to renovate it to make it what we wanted and needed. 37 Location location location 8/18/2019 1:18 PM

38 I fell for the house. 8/18/2019 9:46 AM

39 Loved the house and the character of our street 8/18/2019 7:54 AM 40 Backyard had lots to do with our purchase. 8/18/2019 5:56 AM

41 Location and love older homes 8/18/2019 5:51 AM

42 It was cheaper than VaHi. The house had a garage and was new construction, which was 8/18/2019 4:25 AM important to me. It's on a hill so we'll never get flooded. Great tree canopy

43 It was for sale right when I was in the market to buy. It was across the street, so I jumped on the 8/17/2019 5:30 PM opportunity.

44 Ideal location for us to live, work and play. 8/17/2019 5:12 PM 45 This house. 8/17/2019 3:22 PM

46 We needed a bigger home than the one one my husband was living in. 8/17/2019 2:29 PM

47 Quiet and close to schools 8/17/2019 2:11 PM 48 Big lot/yard. Beautiful Craftsmen style home 8/17/2019 1:36 PM 49 location, amenities, commute to work 8/17/2019 1:34 PM

50 1) We liked the house; 2) we liked that this block of Linwood was not a main thoroughfare with a lot 8/17/2019 12:55 PM of traffic, 3) we liked that this block of Linwood was comprised of single family homes and not multi-family buildings 51 The uniqueness of my condo. 8/17/2019 11:04 AM 52 Always loved the house, for years 8/17/2019 10:44 AM

53 My complex sits directly on the Beltline. 8/17/2019 9:46 AM 54 We weren't opposed to other streets, it's just what was for sale at the time we were looking. 8/17/2019 8:55 AM 55 Wanted to buy a house in the area 8/17/2019 8:47 AM 56 It was my husband’s bachelor pad. I lived on Bonaventure at the time and he moved here since 8/17/2019 8:18 AM most of the places we liked to go were in Virginia-Highland and he was moving his business at the time to Southern Dairies. 2 kids and many years later, we are still here in our condo - much longer than we ever intended. 57 It fit our budget at the time and needed work to make it our own. 8/17/2019 8:11 AM

12 / 73 Poncey-Highland Planning Survey SurveyMonkey

58 1. Because I enjoyed living a short walk away from Virginia-Highland and Little 5 Points. 2. As a 8/17/2019 7:44 AM long term investment with an eye to retirement. I bought my property in what was then an undesired spot knowing it might one day have value for development. I do not wish to lose the benefits of that 25-year-plus investment to overly-aggressive restrictions. 59 Don’t really like that the house is in busy North Ave, but the house makes up for it. 8/17/2019 7:38 AM 60 Access and affordability. 8/17/2019 7:33 AM 61 See Above. 8/17/2019 7:33 AM

62 The price was right. And I loved the building. 8/17/2019 7:26 AM 63 I loved the location and condo community. 8/17/2019 7:21 AM 64 The character of the condo with high ceilings sold me right away. I can walk to everything I need 8/17/2019 7:20 AM and don't have to get in my car on the weekends... 65 Purely residential, quiet street off of one of the neighborhood's busiest roads (North Ave) 8/17/2019 6:52 AM

66 Opportunity while we were looking and our individual unit. 8/17/2019 6:51 AM 67 I took a gamble that paid off in the end. 8/17/2019 6:08 AM 68 Right time for us. Great school system, walkable community, grocery store nearby, close to our 8/17/2019 1:23 AM family, type of home we love. 69 it was the right opportunity when it went on sale 8/16/2019 4:37 PM 70 Again my husband bought during a time that homes were affordable. 8/16/2019 3:06 PM

71 Good price, great neighborhood. 8/16/2019 2:50 PM 72 I needed a duplex so I could buy with my sister. I looked all over the area and this was the only 8/16/2019 2:46 PM perfectly designed duplex, all the rest were conversions. OR they were on the other side of Ponce de Leon in Va Highland and too expensive. Worked perfectly, she lives on the first floor and my wife and I live on the 2nd floor.

73 Location and opportunity 8/16/2019 2:27 PM 74 Location 8/16/2019 2:16 PM 75 It was a good location and a great price. 8/16/2019 2:11 PM 76 Timing. The house I needed was available when I was ready for it. It’s on a busy street, but it has 8/16/2019 1:38 PM a thick wall of vegetation that keeps the very busy street at bay, so I bought it anyway! 77 Location and price 8/16/2019 1:27 PM

78 Schools 8/16/2019 1:24 PM 79 Location 8/16/2019 1:24 PM 80 As above- proximity to work 8/16/2019 1:09 PM

81 Good location and appreciation potential. 8/16/2019 12:56 PM 82 BeltLine 8/16/2019 12:54 PM 83 Love the neighborhood, proximity to the beltline 8/16/2019 12:52 PM 84 It fit my needs at the time 8/16/2019 12:52 PM

85 The right house at the right price at the right time. Loved the neighborhood. 8/16/2019 12:14 PM

Q11 Why did you decide to rent on your street or in your building?

Answered: 32 Skipped: 104

# RESPONSES DATE 1 Lication 8/30/2019 10:19 AM

2 It is right on the park so my kids have lots of room to play 8/30/2019 6:17 AM 3 Great location and character! I don't love luxury condos and our current building is older and 8/30/2019 5:29 AM lovely.

4 I decided to live here because my house was well kept for a 100 year old home. The street is also 8/29/2019 4:58 PM beautiful and just far enough from Ponce de Leon. 5 Found a unit in our price range that would fit our family. There are very very few 3-bedroom 8/29/2019 4:52 PM rentals in this part of Atlanta. 6 Price, location, availability, pet friendly 8/29/2019 4:16 PM

7 I like the the accessibility. I rarely have to drive to go grocery shopping or out to eat. 8/23/2019 11:01 AM 8 Moved into Block Lofts with my then-fiancee while we wait for new condo to be built, but proximity 8/21/2019 8:41 AM to the beltline and easy interstate access are key desirables.

9 The price was right 8/20/2019 11:25 AM 10 We wanted a house with a garage and small yard 8/20/2019 8:02 AM 11 I wanted to live in a full amenity apartment building in . 8/20/2019 7:58 AM

12 Affordable housing, great location, fun environment 8/20/2019 6:07 AM 13 Love being near the beltline, walkable to Midtown, Inman Park ViHi, Edgewood, easy drive to 8/19/2019 5:35 AM Decatur and 75. Tons of great restaurants and shops nearby.

14 I loved the building and it was across the street from my job. 8/18/2019 5:27 AM 15 Walkable area, I don’t want to own and my rent price was right. 8/17/2019 7:38 PM 16 Close to the beltline and all other regular stops. 8/17/2019 6:21 PM

17 My building has great management and affordable apartments, and I love the charm of North 8/17/2019 5:48 PM Highland. 18 Not sure how long we are living in Atlanta. 8/17/2019 1:06 PM

19 Very walkable and close to the beltline and the Path. And love the house. 8/17/2019 1:05 PM 20 Location! 8/17/2019 12:39 PM 21 Location, size 8/17/2019 12:33 PM

22 It was available at right time and the rent was affordable 8/17/2019 12:31 PM 23 Because the rent was affordable and there was an open room. 8/17/2019 11:50 AM 24 Close to local businesses 8/17/2019 10:24 AM

25 great location, good space 8/17/2019 9:37 AM 26 Great value and direct access to the Beltline 8/17/2019 7:56 AM 27 The availability of a unit at the right size & price 8/17/2019 5:40 AM

28 Close to public transportation 8/17/2019 4:02 AM 29 The biggest factor for me is the Beltline. I love that I can get out of my house and exercise or walk 8/16/2019 2:37 PM anywhere I need. I travel often for work, so it's wonderful to not have to spend anymore time in the car when I'm back in Atlanta.

30 Our previous apartment was just across Ponce on Greenwood Ave, but it was too small. We didn’t 8/16/2019 2:23 PM want to leave the neighborhood and when we heard heard our friend had to move, we jumped at the chance of getting her apartment. 31 Special discount for a brand new building when we moved in. 8/16/2019 1:55 PM 32 It's hidden off a dead-end and backs up to the park. We don't get thru-traffic, so it's quiet. Plus 8/16/2019 12:53 PM plenty of parking.

# OTHER (PLEASE SPECIFY) DATE 1 I’m all for tree preservation but, when it comes to public safety in right of ways on major 8/31/2019 5:50 AM thoroughfares, I view them as expendable. Better placement in right of ways to accommodate future growth is preferred over poor placement that may eventually create a safety hazard, be it obstruction of visibility or closeness to curbs.

2 Avoid new condo buildings at cost. 8/29/2019 5:03 PM 3 I think it’s not the place of the association to interfere with the design of new development. I think 8/26/2019 4:53 AM to continue growing, we need to be FLEXIBLE as a neighborhood and welcoming to new designs. I hear people talking about the unique character of the neighborhood, but frankly I see plenty of houses that look like crap and could stand to be razed and redone.

6 Some of these PHNA can work to influence and support through partners and collaborations 8/19/2019 12:29 PM (Trees Atlanta, MARTA, etc), while others PHNA can directly work on and own (meetings, zoning, etc). Some of these are important, but are also hard to quantify and control (Maintain a diverse mix of ages, races, and incomes in daily interaction). 7 Create annual social events to celebrate the community. 8/19/2019 9:02 AM

8 Poncey Highland currently has no identity, other than being "that neighborhood between Va-Hi 8/18/2019 1:57 PM and Inman Park." We need a tag line. I really like "Freedom Runs Through It," which used to be on our neighborhood logo. It would be great to bring that back & promote it. It says so much about exactly what this neighborhood is about, & given the literal interpretation as well, it's pretty much perfect.

9 I'm assuming you're referring to the PHNA, and not the neighborhood as an entity. 8/18/2019 4:30 AM 10 Keep the schools in the zoning that they are now : Springdale Park Inman Grady 8/17/2019 2:19 PM

11 It's important for Poncey Highland to maintain the unique and quirky charm that we've always had 8/17/2019 1:21 PM for decades. We should not become a smaller copycat version of Va-Hi or the other nearby neighborhoods. Stay Poncey!

12 I prefer for us to fly under the radar than to become well known or to have a strong identity 8/17/2019 12:37 PM 13 On the crime issue, I have some reservation of saying strongly agree. Obviously, no one wants 8/17/2019 8:46 AM crime in their neighborhood. We all want safe neighborhoods for our families and community. My concern stems around what solutions may be proposed and implemented. I have seen some residents online target and blame the homeless population. Yes, we have a problem on our streets, but rather than trying to sweep these people away and attempt to sanitize our neighborhoods, I would like to see the neighborhood positively engage with our neighborhood outreach organizations such as Intown Collaborative Ministries to learn how the neighborhood can best support the people in need, seeing they get the services, support, medical care and housing that they need so that the ones who are able may be able to get back on their feet. I believe many people in the neighborhood WANT to help but don’t know how best to help. They are well intentioned and give cash or meals, but these act as band aids and often encourage people to stay on the streets rather than accepting the help offered by the outreach organizations. I am familiar with Intown Collaborative Ministries work, but I still don’t understand how to best help the people living on the streets in our neighborhood beyond volunteering at the food pantry. How can PH better support the outreach organizations to create a better community and positive change for all, including those vulnerable people living on our streets? We have to resist the NIMBY urges and try to make real positive changes in our community that are rooted in humanity - I just don’t know what is most needed and how best to help. And on the actual crime side, yes, we need to address and monitor and prevent, but the best prevention is creating a city where there are abundant job opportunities that offer living wages, where there is affordable housing and mixed income neighborhoods so people don’t have to spend hours commuting each day, where we invest in education and opportunity especially in the most vulnerable communities.

14 I think we ought to be very careful about trying to freeze a neighborhood in time with a historical 8/17/2019 8:12 AM designation. Cities change as they grow, and our neighborhood should be allowed to change. Imagine if London had frozen future development when it was all two-story Tudor houses. It would be a very different place, and not a better one, I think. We need to think well beyond our own lifetimes.

15 While actively reducing crime is necessary the solutions listed are short sighted. 8/17/2019 7:59 AM 16 Keep on-street parking with no more traffic slowing widening that take out parking places. Have 8/17/2019 6:23 AM affordable parking lots.

17 Encourage neighborhood input on new businesses that fit family needs, shops& entertainment 8/17/2019 4:16 AM 18 Having a plan for major development, curbing the number of homes that get leveled, and ensuring 8/17/2019 1:31 AM the population density is in line with infrastructure are important things to consider for our future. 19 The Ponce Highland neighborhood MUST become a historical district like the Bonaventure- 8/16/2019 2:52 PM Somerset one. If not crappy townhouses like the one the guy is building across from LaFonda in the old Open Arms lot and now in the the old Chiropractic clinic building will be the new character, or lack thereof, of the hood.

3 I wish Poncey-Highland would embrace its quirk. Specifically, if we mix VaHi and L5P together, 8/18/2019 4:30 AM you'd get P-H. This would be a strong brand definition to build on, IMO.

4 Our "live and let live" vibe 8/17/2019 1:21 PM

5 Freedom. I can't speak for others, but I moved intown years ago partly to avoid the strictures of 8/17/2019 8:12 AM suburban HOAs. I would hate to see our neighborhood association try to remake itself into a pseudo-HOA trying to exert control over how people use their property. We do need to have some tools to make sure new developments are beautiful and use quality materials, but let's be cautious about dictating style.

6 Maintaining historic homes and buildings! 8/17/2019 1:31 AM 7 Walkability to the max and bike riding ability on Beltline/Piedmont Park, etc. 8/16/2019 2:52 PM

15 Connect Belgrade to northbound freedom parkway and make another intersection 8/16/2019 1:28 PM 16 Instead of suppressing/calming traffic, find ways to more efficiently increase traffic flow. P-H is in 8/16/2019 1:08 PM the middle of other communities with lots of people trying to just get through. Add dedicated bike/scooter lanes, add a MARTA stop or shuttle, or widen sidewalks to allow bikes & scooters too. It'll drive more people into the community and not increase traffic and parking issues. At the same time, a bike accident is much less severe than a car accident.

Q61 How could PHNA better communicate with you?

Answered: 48 Skipped: 88

# RESPONSES DATE 1 Email 8/31/2019 5:20 AM 2 Emails are great 8/30/2019 10:23 AM

3 for me I'd say email is the best, so continue that. 8/30/2019 5:52 AM

4 I think the communication is outstanding! 8/29/2019 7:13 PM 5 Meeting times are not convenient for those with young kids. 7-8 is when many kids are going to 8/29/2019 5:50 PM bed. 8:00 may be more convenient 6 A think a neighborhood paper would be interesting on a monthly basis if it was cost efficient for the 8/29/2019 5:05 PM association.

7 Email is fine. Frequency is about right. 8/29/2019 4:57 PM 8 Mass text reminders about meeting times and locations. 8/27/2019 11:03 AM

9 I feel like certain measures are passed ‘sneakily’ that should have received more community wide 8/26/2019 5:01 AM involvement. The historic designation and the residential parking zone were BOTH passed and implemented without reaching out to anyone in our building, despite the fact that it affects everyone. Acts like this come across as cowardly because the people pushing to get these measures approved only solicit feedback from their friends and neighbors who they know will back them up. I’d be open to discussing this further because without the input from our building, I believe the measures may have been passed without the correct percentage of neighborhood feedback.

20 Post meeting notes. More frequent updates about what is going on. 8/19/2019 5:47 AM

21 Publish minutes of PHNA meetings 8/19/2019 2:04 AM 22 IDEAS Whenever an important meeting is coming up that would be of interest to the general 8/18/2019 2:09 PM neighborhood (say for example, a discussion of the proposed Master Plan), distribute a physical flyer to every residence & business. This was been done in the past for important meetings, but it seems it's been a few years since it's happened & now it's never done. Also, put up notices in local businesses that will allow it (like a 8.5x11 stand up flyer in Buddy's, the laudrymat, etc.). 23 [email protected] 8/18/2019 5:38 AM

24 We should make sure that no one on the PHNA board wins the hotel package - that would not look 8/18/2019 4:31 AM good at all.

25 Promote at North High Ridge apts - never seen any flyers there and I’m sure people would want to 8/17/2019 5:54 PM know.

31 There's been a couple of times that I've volunteered to help through survey responses or direct 8/17/2019 9:04 AM email. I've only received a response once (for the working group). I think it would be helpful to hear from PHNA whether you have a specific volunteer opportunity or not.

32 Can't think of any other options. 8/17/2019 8:18 AM 33 By accepting my offers of participation in planning activities for one thing. 8/17/2019 8:17 AM

35 Emails 8/17/2019 7:27 AM 36 Emails & flyers. The monthly meeting email is a treasure trove of information. Thanks for taking the 8/17/2019 7:02 AM time to put those together. Shorter emails or flyers calling out key events (such as Peachy Clean Poncey) would increase awareness.

37 Emails are best. 8/17/2019 6:25 AM

38 IDEAS I love the emails. Including a yearly calendar with each email would help ensure all 8/17/2019 1:34 AM meetings are on my calendar.
