SUBJECT: Student / Teacher Materials Exchange Dear Maize USD 266 parent/guardian/student, As district and school leaders work to wrap up the 2019-20 school year, we are coordinating a plan to exchange school and student materials with families. Each school will have a slightly different process and schedule, and you can find details about Maize High School below. Please keep in mind that the only entrance to MHS at this time will be coming south on 119th Street and entering through the baseball/softball entrance. Please take an inventory of items at home that need to be returned to school, including library books, instruments, uniforms, and devices. Your child’s teacher(s) will be doing the same at school, looking for items that belong to your family that we can return to you, including student work and projects, notebooks, book bags, and shoes. For seniors who are not done with their Chromebooks, there will be an additional dropoff from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 21 at Maize Elementary School, 305 W. Jones in Maize. Our plan has the interest of the health and safety of families and employees at heart, limiting contact and access while schools across Kansas remain closed per Gov. Laura Kelly’s mandate. This will be a drive-through event in which families come to your child’s school to exchange these items. Students and families will not be permitted to enter any school building for any reason. As much as our staff members and your family members may want to exchange hugs and handshakes, we will facilitate this event observing social distancing. Please remain in your vehicle as you are visiting our campus. On May 19, 2020 and May 20, 2020, we will be arranging for students to come to Maize High School to pick up any remaining items and drop off of any school-related materials. Both dates will have a come-and-go drive up pick up/drop off from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Here is a video of what the process will look like. During this process, students/parents should remain in their vehicles at all times. Student belongings will be sorted per EnCor teacher. Materials that will need to be picked up: ● Art projects ● Industrial arts projects ● Band, Orchestra, or other instruments ● Class projects as collected by teachers ● Locker belongings (hallway and athletic) Materials that will need to be dropped off: ● Senior’s Chromebooks and chargers (Students in grades 9-11 will keep their Chromebook/charger) ● All textbooks ● All library books ● Graphing calculators ● Any other classroom items/technology that you have borrowed ● Uniforms ● School-owned instruments ● District-owned hotspots If there is something specific that you need to collect, please email the staff member who would know where the item(s) are located. I wish you a wonderful summer and once again would like to say how much I appreciate your patience, flexibility, and support as we all worked together on our Continuous Learning Plan. We are hopeful as we plan and anticipate our next school year and wish you the best. Chris Botts Maize High School [email protected] .
