While that speech took a slightly tongue in cheek approach to the history of BSVT; as we begin year twenty-six I would like to a moment to explore what BSVT is about today. Being mature; at least in part; is being able to have greater breadth in viewing your role / responsibilities. B’nai Shalom v’Tikvah is no longer the congregation that hopes to provide a Hebrew school for your children, a place to come and worship in a liberal Jewish environment and an organization that provides for your life cycle needs. BSVT has accomplished that! In my view, being mature, means taking an important place in your community as well. You may have noticed recently that the population in the Durham Region is about to explode.

Smith Faculty of Agriculture, Food and Environment, The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, POB 12, Rehovot 76100, Israel Email: [email protected] ABSTRACT Scale insects (Hemiptera: Coccoidea) of four species of oaks (Fagaceae: Quercus) in Israel namely, Q. boissieri, Q. calliprinos, Q. ithaburensis, and Q. look were collected and identified from natural forest stands during the period 2010-2013. A total of twenty-seven species were determined from nine scale insect families: Asterolecaniidae (3 species), Coccidae (3), Di- aspididae (7), Eriococcidae (3), Kermesidae (6), Kuwaniidae (1), Mono- phlebidae (1), Pseudococcidae (2), and Putoidae (1). Six of these species represent new records for Israel and five are identified to the genus level. Kuwaniidae is a new family record for Israel. Species that were previously collected or recorded on oaks in Israel are listed and discussed. Information is given about host trees and global distribution. The majority of the spe- cies reported here are monophagous or stenophagous and they appear to be non-pestiferous to the oak trees in Israel. General traits that describe each scale insect family in the field are provided, together with an identification key to aid in the determination of slide-mounted specimens into families represented in this study. This diversity 27 in genetic patterns may reflect diversity in the meaning of “peripheral populations” as defined by 28 geography, gene flow patterns, historical effects, and ecological conditions. Although the members of the subcommittee do not want to make definitive judgments on the applicability of education in Israel to American needs, they are most favorably impressed by the great emphasis which the Israelis place on early childhood programs, vocational/technical education, and residential youth villages. The people of Israel are considered profoundly dedicated to the support of education at every level. The country works toward expansion of opportunities for education, based upon a belief that the educational system is the key to the resolution of major social problems. In the second part of the report, the detailed itinerary of the subcommittee is described with annotated comments about the places and persons visited. In the last part, appendixes describing in great depth characteristics of the Israeli education system (higher education in Israel, education and culture, and the kibbutz) are reprinted.     OUR VISION To create a region, the Central Yarqon, that will be the pride of its surrounding population by strengthening and deepening their involvement in planning, REHABILITATION OF THE CENTRAL YARQON RIVER developing and participation in its management. Connecting the surrounding population to the river area - Building civil society awareness, knowledge and participation in the Central Yarqon project by forming community groups based on thematic issues of interest that will participate in the project’s planning process and implementation as well as the management of the area in the future. This will build and enhance local patriotism and a sense of responsibility towards the area. Ecology and environment - Rehabilitate the aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems of the streams and their corridors to a high degree of reliability. Hydrology – Planning of water resource management from a trans-boundary watershed perspective, comprised of rainwater and surface runoff management, and flood Planned Housing alleviation in both developed and open areas. Joint regional management – Creating a joint management committee comprised of representatives from the public, local authorities and the additional stakeholders. Hod Hasharon Planned Housing DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT AREA AND MAIN REASONING FOR ITS CHOICE Planned Housing Planned Housing The project area is in the heart of the Yarqon River basin, in the center of the most densely populated area in Israel, home to approx. 1.3 mill. people living in 12 municipalities that surround the area. The municipalities include major cities whose P & Industry Hod Hasharon inhabitants are from a variety of sectors, including two Jewish religious municipalities, three from the Arab sector and P several from lower socio-economic statuses.
