HP Alpha Hardware Virtualization is a software solution that replaces HP Alpha hardware. This approach is best understood when the HP Alpha Hardware Virtualization Software is viewed as a special interface between the old HP Alpha software and a new hardware platform. Basically, the CHARON software presents a HP Alpha hardware interface to the original HP Alpha software, so that the existing software cannot detect a difference. This means no changes have to be made to the existing software. User programs and data can be copied to a new modern industry standard server (64-bit Intel or AMD) and continue to run for many more years. VAX Emulator on HP’s Latest AlphaServer Products Extends Life of Legacy OpenVMS VAX Systems Robert L. Lyons Systems Consultant, Resilient Systems, Inc. Overview Strong synergies in the latest technologies from Hewlett-Packard and Software Resources International promise not only a reprieve for remaining OpenVMS VAX systems but also a clear path to 21st century platforms. OpenVMS VAX users can now take advantage of ever-faster chip speeds and massive storage platforms available on the latest HP AlphaServer systems. This article describes tests of the Software Resources International CHARON™-VAX/AXP Plus emulator on an HP GS1280, the most powerful of the recently released EV7-based AlphaServer systems. CHARON-VAX/AXP Plus emulates an OpenVMS VAX system to replace VAX hardware systems with modern OpenVMS Alpha systems. The emulator runs as an application on the Alpha system, providing a ‘virtual’ OpenVMS VAX system that can directly execute OpenVMS VAX system operatives, the layered software, and user applications without requiring conversion. The tests show that the combined strengths of the CHARON-VAX/AXP Plus and the HP GS1280 AlphaServer provide server consolidation and multi-architecture cluster support while significantly enhancing the performance of OpenVMS VAX system functions and applications running on the Alpha hardware. The tests demonstrate that a 16-way GS1280 running multiple instances of CHARON-VAX/AXP Plus can deliver the equivalent of an OpenVMS VAX 3198 or VAX 7610 on each GS1280 Alpha processor, while achieving nearly linear scaling. In addition, the software/hardware configuration minimizes the floor space required: only one Alpha footprint for up to 15 VAX systems emulated on the 16-way GS1280.

A Case Study The Lady of May: a Case Study in the Rhetoric of Electronic Text R.S. Bear Arts And Administration University of Oregon Abstract This paper examines the history of the print editions and the online edition of Philip Sidney's early pageant known as "The Lady of May." Electronic image scans of pages from print editions are iconically compared with the same text as typed into a computer and as coded in increasingly complex HTML code, culminating in an interactive presentation with online helps. This examination will seek an answer to the following question: Will traditional book arts continue to influence text design in the online world? Keywords: Etext, HTML, Internet, Markup, World Wide Web, Design Suzi Gablik in The Reenchantment of Art (5) reminds us that for some time now the focus of art has been on the individual acting alone, defying the gods[1], defying society. Even the reaction to this ethos in what has been called postmodernism retains this disconnectedness, or rather extends it, by proposing nihilism, the death that is final because it is individual death, denying to society the locus of what is to be called life (40). In literature this disconnectedness has been possible only through cognitive dissonance, for every act of publication is an act of making public, of making to the world the gift of the textual object, and publication has generally been a team effort in any case, as it is a complex maneuver: author, editor, publisher, designer, printer and distributor have all been required. The Internet seems to offer a new field for the play of individualism in publication, yet it is the most communal medium (Leppert 7) yet devised, as the give-and- take of communication between authors and readers becomes what is known as a "thread" or single intertwining strand of textuality.

Malicious Activity Report: Elements of Lokibot Infostealer Author: Minh Hoang Executive Summary This paper presents the results and finding of our analysis of the behavior, techniques, targets, and unpacking methods of a Lokibot information stealer sample. We were able to uncover features that can be utilized to prevent and mitigate the threat. We conducted dynamic and static analyses. Our dynamic analysis showed Lokibot’s behavior, including the benefits and drawbacks of several unpacking methods. We also analyzed how Lokibot avoided repeat execution, how it (unsuccessfully attempted to achieved persistence, and provided a list of applications that Lokibot will use to search for credentials on a victim’s system. Lokibot Threat Characteristics Lokibot is a malware designed to collect credentials and security tokens from an infected machine running on a Windows Operating System (OS). Lokibot was first observed in 2015, when it targeted cryptocoin wallets, though there is evidence that the widely-spread version was a hijacked version (also referred to as patched or cracked version) of the earlier one. One of the key differences is that the patched version allows the attacker to change the command and control (C2) URL.1 Once executed, Lokibot unpacks the main binary into memory using hollow process injection2 to insert itself into a legitimate Microsoft Windows application to hide its activities. Lokibot also used an infected system machine global unique identifier (GUID) value to generate a mutex (an MD5 hash) that acted as a flag to prevent itself from infecting the same machine again. Lokibot collects information and credentials from multiple applications, including but not limited to Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Thunderbird, FTP and SFTP applications.
