Źródło zdjęć: Internet www.StalGorzow.pl Szanowni Państwo, Chcielibyśmy zaprosić Państwa do udziału w XIII Memoriale Edwarda Jancarza, turnieju żużlowym rozgrywanym 3 kwietnia 2016 roku na stadionie w Gorzowie Wielkopolskim.

  • Whatever Happened to Tracy Bray?
Whatever Happened to Tracy Bray? Twenty-one years ago young Tracy Bray travelled across the world to fulfil his dream of being a speedway rider. In this article he looks back on that great adventure and reflects on the bad luck that hindered his chances of hitting the big time. Tracy the 'Boro Tiger I got started in speedway in 1984 at age 21 after my motocross career of 11 years had drawn to an end and a good friend suggested I should "give speedway a go". I went halves in a second hand Weslake with my employer and sponsor Aidan Higgins, (who was later to supply bikes and equipment to overseas riders such as Ian Barney, David Walsh, Dennis Lofvquist, Tomasz Gollob and Per Johnson), when they visited our shores. I continued to race during the winter & summer speedway seasons on tracks such as North Arm (Adelaide), Midura, Renmark & Whyalla (where I won the South Australian Best Pairs with my old friend from the mini-bike days, Steve Baker). In 1985 I visited Steve in the U.K. for 3 months and travelled with him to various tracks at the end of his Sheffield season. It was during this time that I became truly hooked on the idea of racing in the U.K. During the Australian summer season of 1986, I played host to several riders from the touring "Nigel Boocock Troup", including Gary Havelock, Andrew Silver, Kelvin Tatum & Phil Collins. Phil had broken his right tibia at North Arm and had a large pin inserted to put things back together, so I helped him thru the rehab process by getting him down to the beach and into the water.

  • Steve Metcalf
Dream Team : Steve Metcalf First taken to the Shay, Halifax by my girlfriend in 1969 and was hooked immediately (by the racing not the girlfriend) followed the Dukes to Bradford until the sad demise. I tried Sheffield after moving down there to live, but it was not the same. Tend to watch on Sky now, but I am still tempted to return one day. Carter Jonsson Kenny Carter who else could it be? Got to know him briefly when I tried to get the company I worked for to sponsor him, and everything everybody else has said about him is true. Could be arrogant and self centred, but could also be great company. At his peak he was a genius, I will never forget going to Hyde Road when Chris Morton was red hot, and Kenny just destroyed him. Sadly missed. Doug Wyer Came to us probably past his peak, but seeing him beat the best in the world from the gate was worth the admission money (unfortunately he was just as likely to be last going into turn 3 after a lightning gate, until he got his equipment sorted out). Always entertaining and on his day could save a meeting for us. Per Jonsson I've included Per in my team, not just because he was a fantastic rider, but for the memory of seeing him take Gary Havelock and Joe Screen from the back at Odsal when they were trying to team ride him out. Havvy and Screeny were at the peak of their form and were "Kings" of Odsal but Per went high on the banking on turn 3, picked up tremendous speed and went through a gap that just wasn't there.

  • Newcastle Speedway Brough Park a League History Volume Three 1981
Newcastle Speedway Brough Park A League History Volume Three 1981 to 1993 Compiled by Joe Wake 1 Foreword I was born in 1955 and was brought up in Blyth, Northumberland in the 1960’s. I discovered speedway when noticing the reports on the back page of the Newcastle Evening Chronicle. I pestered my father to take me and he eventually did. We both became hooked on the sport but as he was a police officer working shifts it meant we could only go every two weeks at the most. I did, on a couple of occasions, take the speedway special United bus which went from Ashington to Brough Park on a Monday night and picked up in Blyth but, for a schoolboy the, if I recall, 3s 9d bus fare together with the cost of admission and programme meant it was not possible to do so on a weekly basis. Brough Park closed at the end of the 1970 season. I went to one meeting each at Ashington and Sunderland but that was it until I attended the the reopening meeting at Brough Park in March 1975. I was then in my late teens, was working and liked socialising and between then and leaving the area to move to Northamptonshire in 1981 I probably saw no more than half a dozen meetings. Since then I have attended about twenty meetings with the latest being in 2005. I still follow the sport and have continued to subscribe to Speedway Star throughout but I, like many others, have become disillusioned with rule changes, guests, doubling up and down, the laughable double points joker etc.
